New Player Overview
The Immortal Aeva is focused on technology and metal working. She is fond of mortals but is loyal to Immortals also. In conflicts, she tends not to take sides and she is one of the more reserved Immortals. Aeva is an Immortal you might be interested in finding out about / reading further if you are going to play a metal smith of any kind, an engineer or someone who pushes the boundaries of technology. She rewards ambition and pride, too.
Aeva's Mark is of interest to any PC who might work with their hands. It's useful for those whose daily job uses tools and is very focused on crafting and engineering. It also allows you to make "named" items which, by naming them, gives them more power.
Personality
General Traits
Prideful: Fitting for her Domains, Aeva takes a great deal of pride in both her abilities and her nature. This can be either a positive or a negative, depending on the situation.
Brusque: Aeva is not very talkative, tending to be as direct and blunt as her hammer strikes. She can often come off as rude because of it.
Strict Taskmaster: Aeva takes her work very seriously, and has demanding standards not only for herself, but for those that follow her. She will accept nothing but the best, no matter how small and minor the work is.
Encouraging: Despite all of the above, Aeva generally pushes people to be the best that they can be. In fact, her pushing can be a measure of how much potential she sees in someone, as the harder she pushes, the better she thinks they can be.
Strengths
Forgemaster: Aeva is the Immortal of the Forge, and on that fact alone, she would be one of the best smiths in Idalos. However, she is not content to rest merely on her powers and constantly works to improve herself.
Never Complacent: As stated above, Aeva does not rest on her powers and laurels. She believes that no one is ever done improving and applies this to her own skills. Aeva is always looking for or inventing new techniques or technologies to apply to her work, no matter the source.
Leader: While not a politician or general, Aeva is still an excellent leader in her own element. When it comes to leading a team of smiths or inventors, Aeva is among the best in Idalos.
Weaknesses
Short-tempered: Aeva does not suffer fools well and has a tendency to easily lose her temper with those that waste her time, are lazy, full of unmerited pride, or just generally half-arse their way through life.
Impatient: When Aeva wants something done, she wants it done immediately, if not sooner. She doesn’t deal well with people that are slow, either when working or talking.
Not My Problem: Aeva doesn’t get involved in Immortal or Mortal politics, and tends to hold herself aloof from many of her fellows. This can lead to her being out of touch with the general state of Idalosian world affairs, as she prefers to focus on her Domains and followers, rather than wider reaching matters.
Personality and Verbal Tics
Foul Mouthed: As a consequence of Aeva’s short temper, she can be remarkably foul mouthed, far beyond what most people expect from an Immortal. This is most prominent when she’s working, especially if someone is delaying said work.
Loud: Especially if she forgets herself, either by being distracted or because someone irritated her, Aeva can be very loud, largely as a result of spending most of her very long life working in loud forges.
Generous: While she will demand exorbitant prices, often non-financial, from even other Immortals for custom pieces, she is much more freely willing to repair or even make more commonplace items, especially if she’s out and about in Idalos proper.
Constantly Crafting: Whether smithing or inventing, Aeva does truly love her work and is rarely not engaged with it on some level. If there’s nothing demanding the resources of her personal forge, she’ll wander Idalos as a traveling smith just for the sake of getting to forge more often.
History
When the war first erupted, Aeva was one of many who remained neutral. Even though she had taken a short leave from Idalos, preferring to spend her time in the Immortal Forge with her brother, Ymiden ,Aeva was too enchanted by the ways of man to be apart from them permanently. She was visited multiple times by her brother and sisters each one of them trying to recruit her to fight for what they believed. This request puzzled her and yet, she couldn't help but find humor with each one of her siblings. She was the tamed child, alright, having been created a long time after Ethelynda, who was one of the first Immortals and who was quickly followed by Daia, Aeva could only see the pointlessness in the war since Immortals could not kill each other. Not only that, but the Immortal couldn't understand why any of her brethren would be so cruel as to use humans to murder one another. Aeva knew her brethren thought this same idea but still, they continued to battle.
Aeva worked hard to maintain her illusion of neutrality, realising quickly that by doing so she could gain maximum advantage. With such a gap between her and her elder sister, Ethelynda, who she admires greatly, she felt that she had a lot to prove yet she feared being asked to craft weapons in her Forge which might sway the war one way or another. More than any of Luesco's children, Aeva understood that there are no winners in a war and she had no wish to be on the side of those who sought to harm her siblings, yet she was inspired by mortals and their capacity to learn and grow.
Her determination to avoid picking a side and to maintain neutrality, caused her to be the focus of ire from both sides of the conflict. This did not concern the Forge Mistress, she was well aware that, while her family were infuriated by her lack of support, they would not ask her to craft any of the weapons which would harm the mortals she was fascinated by.
Both because she is difficult to impress and in order to maintain the illusion of neutrality, Aeva's blessings are hard to come by and, due to her compassion for mortals, her curses are even rarer. In highly populated cities, some mortals have had the opportunity to meet her, however, they are unaware of it because of her casual appearance. She frequently visits the cities of Idalos, often times browsing the armor or weapon shops and finds herself walking about her temple, if there is one established. Aeva enjoys watching her followers perform rituals in her honor and is happy to listen to their prayers even though they are hardly ever answered. If she is truly impressed by an individual's will or craftsmanship, then she will bestow her blessing upon them.
Aeva is the ruler of technological advancements, the craft of gathering, shaping, and molding metal. She is the epitome of ambitious will, and the mother of pride. Among her siblings, she is considered a tamed child looking to prove her purpose within her family, seeking to be as respected as Ethelynda. However, to the mortals of Idalos, Aeva is the shinning light of luxury within their world. Often times, many cities hail her with high hopes that their children may receive her blessings but this is far from what the Immortal aims to do. That some being would impress her enough to gain her blessing is a rarity. Though, those who possess her power are often burden by the wants and needs of the people. The ability to construct, establish, and/or invent items is enhanced with Aeva blessing along with the pride and ambition of the individual. Therefore, those who are blessed by this Immortal find themselves as slaves to their city's people. The power given by Aeva is one to be desired and since the blessing is a rarity, those that obtain it can expect a life dedicated to crafting and knowledge.
Appearance
Aeva appears as a typical human with honey blonde hair, tanned skin, and silver eyes. In the mortal realm, she adorns common clothes with a burgundy red cloak to hide her features, if need be. Some things that stick out against her clothes is the odd amount of metal jewelry and pieces of what could be considered armor on her outfits. When she's not attempting to conceal herself, she is often seen in her plate armor, shining gold with a type of cloth material that is nearly impenetrable. This is a special kind of armor that only she can forge. Aeva has yet to teach or share this kind of material with anyone else.
Memories of the Past
Aeva remembers the time before the Shattering as one where she had to walk a fine line - not prepared to be drawn into the conflict, she worked hard to maintain her apparent neutrality and genuine affection for both sides. She wanted to belong in her immediate family unit and she always felt her status to be lacking among Luesco's creations, especially considering Ethelynda's age and station among the Immortals. In terms of Luesco, she has fond feelings for him, though not as much as Ethelynda. Her most treasured memories are of those times in her Forge where her siblings visited, from Daia dancing around to Ymiden moping about having the left over domains, they are memories she holds dear, although she would not admit such.
Presently
Aeva's exact whereabouts are unknown but there are often rumours of her being seen throughout Idalos. Some believe that she is searching for a specific technological advancement, but others say that it is wishful thinking on those who have 'seen' her.
Relationships with other Immortals
Aeva has a fondness for Ymiden who she welcomed into her Forge. She is largely reclusive from the rest of her siblings, choosing not to involve herself in their existence. Her ambition leads her to be determined to be the best of them. There is a deep respect between her and Yvithia, both of whom drive science and technology forward and she has an unusual friendship with Ilaren; on the surface there is little reason for the two of them to get on, but they do - possibly due to their shared hatred of Faldrun. With Moseke, Aeva feels that she has found a true kindred spirit - someone who remains apart from the mortals she protects yet is not fully part of her Immortal family.
Opinions on Magic
Aeva is not anti-magic, she recognises it as a useful tool but, as is seen in her mark and the abilities it grants, Aeva would rather that the genius and ingenuity came from the individual - so she is highly unlikely to mark someone who relies on magic but she will be impressed by it's careful and thoughtful use. She has more positive outlook on those magics used to create and craft, such as Transmutation.
Opinions on Mortals
Aeva is intrigued by mortals - they have an ability to be ingenious which delights her. Equally, they can be confounding and frustrating - a trait she particularly hates is someone wasting a talent, but on the whole she is positive about mortals and all the potential they hold.
Racial Specifics
Aeva has a preference for appearing as a human and it seems that she marks slightly more humans than any other race - but the proportion is small. Although she is too prideful to show it, she finds Ithecal irritating, not least because they remind her of Ethelynda. Not that she has bad feeling for her elder sister, but they have the same irritating, superior attitude.
Worship
In terms of worship, Aeva appreciates people being unique, individual and clever. She has no interest in the mundane or commonplace - she expects and demands ingenuity.
