Personality

Darius is, for the most part, an affable individual. He has a distinct sense of right and wrong, and is often tempted to step in when he witnesses a perceived injustice. He also understands, however, that he cannot 'fix' everything, and some smaller injustices might need to be allowed in the grand scheme of things.

As a longtime servant of the seas, he has learned to be patient and wait for the right 'tide', as well as acknowledge that some things are bigger than himself. He is but a small fish in a vast ocean. He loves a sense of adrenaline, and feels at home in such circumstances, whether that's feeling the sea spray of the ocean brushing against his beard, climbing the rigging of a swaying mast, or finding himself in the midst of a brawl at the Scalvoris Town docks.

History

History
Image

Darius has spent more trials at sea than he cares to count. This started as a child, when he would accompany his father on regular fishing trips in a small boat in the Crescent Sea. His mother was less enthused about this than the Baer boys, but agreed to let the pair go so long as Darius committed to his lessons, which he did...with varying degrees of success.

In truth, the young lad had found a love of the ocean, and while he was always glad to make landfall, it wouldn't be long before he was casting his gaze back out to sea and wondering what their next adventure might have in store for them.

As he grew older, and he had to find his own means of income, Darius found work at the docks, running errands for the harbourmaster, loading and unloading cargo from ships, and, eventually, working for a merchant who traded goods between Scalvoris Town and Viden. Those journeys were filled with adventure, hunting leviathans, enduring squalls, and fending off pirates. It was there that Darius learned to fight.

But they could be long and quiet journeys, too, and in an effort to stave off the boredom he experienced between the life-threatening encounters at sea and the necessary evils of sailing chores, he took to woodworking. Much to his surprise, what began as a distraction became a passion, and Darius found he had a natural talent. That has made a landlocked life more palatable, with less reliance on the ever changing tides.

Leadership
Local Boy Done Good

In recent arcs, Darius has earned a reputation as a proud Scalvorian who is willing to whatever he can to protect his homeland. As a result of his heavy involvement in the freeing of the Induks, his role as one of the Barons von Smooglenuff, and his leading of a settlement of Faldrass refugees, people are more willing to support his endeavours.

When Darius is involved in a task to put Scalvoris' interests first, his leadership inspires up to ten individuals to perform their own tasks at one skill level higher than normal. Their tasks do not need to be the same as Darius', but they must support his task in some way, and thus be connected to bettering Scalvoris as a whole.

This ability only works when Darius is in Scalvoris, or if he is elsewhere representing Scalvoris' interests in some way.
