Fourth Course
Xiur's answers the questions of those gathered around the table, including his own, were fascinating. To an extent that, no matter how delicious the dessert set before him, Arlo left it as good as forgotten for the moment. He might not be a learned scholar when it came to the stars in the heavens, so far as what they were made of and fiddly science-y things like that. But that didn't diminish his fascination with the night sky.
No answer however on what the stars were made of, how many or just how long they'd been there. But rather than be disappointed by Xiur's answer, Arlo shrugged and grin. "I guess there's an element of mystique to it all that is a larger part of the appeal. The lion's share, for me, to be honest. Knowing all the science seems like it would lessen the mystery, therefore the magic of it all." And that would be a real shame, Arlo thought.
Between Courses
And then there were more of them there to receive a round of recognition and appreciation, which Arlo was all too happy and eager to do. And so once again, smiling, he rose from his chair in order to applaud enthusiastically for Kura and Oram. "Well deserved!" he called out before retaking his seat again.
Fifth Course
For his fifth course, and he'd yet to consume the strawberry dessert he'd been brought, Arlo received a simple after dinner drink. Cognac. It was a libation he didn't often indulge in, but did enjoy quite a lot, and he gave a nod of sincere thanks to the fellow who'd brought it. Qylios interjected long enough to give praise to Hart, who'd played a unique part in it all, and once again, Arlo rose to his feet and applauded.
And then there was Ziell. Since Arlo had already been on his feet, he remained there and dipped his head respectfully, waiting for the Immortal to be seated before retaking his own chair. Was peace hard, as the Immortal claimed it to be? Arlo found after a trill's contemplation that he had to agree. It took restraint, discipline under certain circumstances, to be sure.
But peace for him? Personally? "For me it's a way of, well, a state of being," Arlo responded thoughtfully. "A sense of ease within myself, and within my surroundings. Including the people, family, friends or otherwise. Contentment," he added at the last, if he was going to sum it all up in just one word. As for a question of his own? That took a trill or two as well, before he chose to ask.
"It's occurred to me that the Immortals, not just yourself, represent a number of concepts and domains. Some of them, for each Immortal, seem connected in more obvious ways, but others, less so. As for your own, winter, peace and prophesy, I suppose I could hazard a guess and chances are, I'd probably fall short. From your perspective, is there a connection between the three? And if yes, how so?" he asked.
