New Player Information

Unity / The One is an Immortal who was born / created in Arc 719 - so they are very new. Created as a direct result of player action, The One came into being when Jesine and Kielik were first put to sleep in The Maze by the PC Hart. The twin Mortalborn of Vri were cast into a dreamless sleep and, as the guardians of Dreams and Nightmares, this led to a major disruption in Emea, the Untold, the Domains and the Dreamscape.

In Crack in the Wall a number of PCs travelled directly into Emea in order to wake up the twins. The outcome of those threads meant that Emea changed and the Twins lost their mortal halves, becoming one - complete - Immortal.

History

Jesine's History

The Mortalborn Jesine, daughter of Vri and his love Anaza, sister of Kielik, among the first to be born of both mortal and Immortal realms; blessed with power greater than their mortal blood could safely handle. When she was still alive, Jesine loved her mother dearly and treasured all the time that she had with her, though she would come to inevitably outlive her.

When age took her mother and Jesine yet lived, enjoying youth that should've long since expired, her grief was what initially awakened her gifts and illuminated her purpose; the mystical realms touching her consciousness and empowering her core, uplifting her and Kielik. These gifts came much too late to spare Anaza her suffering and eventual demise, however; a tragedy that Jesine mourns to this day and that spurs her vigilance to protect mortals in her sphere of influence, venturing deeper into the realm beyond their conscious minds to follow a calling she didn't initially understand.

Only then did she come to understand Emea better. She gazed beyond the mortal realms and it looked into her in kind, its vast and limitless power flowing through her and stretching the limits of her mortal body, threatening to overwhelm and destroy her. What should've been her demise instead became her salvation and the key to her ascension as her innate power resonated with the chaotic and amorphous nature of the realms beyond. It reached into her and opened her mind, sealing her fate alongside her brother.

Together, they formed a sort of morbid duality with power and influence beyond that of other Mortalborn, empowered by much more than just the blood they inherited from their Immortal father. Out of loyalty to her heritage and the mother she'd lost, Jesine woved to be the silent guardian of mortality, watching over them as they slept to shelter their thoughts and ambitions and protect them from what threats lurked beyond Idalos, in the depths of Emea, and from her own brother---Kielik's betrayal and allegiance cementing her loyalty to her cause.

For a long time, until the events in The Maze, Jesine resided in Emea, vigilant in sabotaging her brother's efforts in poisoning the spirits of mortals for his new masters. She watched carefully over her shoulder, always; eyes turned to the darkness, waiting and bracing herself against the terrors that await beyond. Meanwhile, she expanded her network through the distribution of her mark, slowly building a vanguard to protect Idalos against otherworldly threats.

Kielik's History

The son of Vri and brother of Jesine, Kielik spent his time in much the same way as his sister, asleep somewhere out of the way. But while Jesine delved into dreams to live in a world of imagination and dreams, Kielik spent his time in a world of terror and madness, either out of a deliberate attempt to be there or out of that part of the world of dreams choosing him as its avatar on Idalos. Either way, the end result was that by the time of his mothers death, neither Vri nor Jesine could claim to know Kielik and without her, he drifted apart from them.

In time, he found out about the Immortal Sintra and her daughter Labrae through the nightmares that pervaded Idalos. The two fascinated Kielik and he began to spread fear of them in his own way, guiding peoples brief trips into the world of dreams into the realm of nightmares, where some of them went mad from the terror of their dreams and still others went into a comatose state, never to escape from the world of dreams. In time, this activity brought him to Sintra's attention and he gained an audience with the Webspinner. She talked him into serving her, giving him an outlet for his love of causing nightmares and insanity and giving her an agent in the world of dreams, a priceless asset.

In his service to Sintra, Kielik's madness grew even stronger and her found himself consumed by a desire to have his father and sister join him as servants of Sintra and avatars of the realm of nightmares. For a long time he found himself split between spreading his nightmares across Idalos and battling his sister in the world of dreams. He believed that if he could make her fall, Kielik he would attract his fathers attention and lure him into their world, where Kielik can battle him. However, much like Jesine, few mortals of Idalos are actively aware of Kielik, for outside of the world of dreams he is all but powerless, merely a mortal man with a powerful father. As such, he rarely left the world of dreams unless called by Sintra or Labrae, her daughter.

Current History

The One is the merged form of Jesine and Kielik. The children of Vri were put into a dreamless sleep on the 1st Vhalar 718 by the actions of a group of PCs, specifically Hart. These events had unseen consequences. The middle of the Maze was a fracture in Scalvoris and, as the twins with Domain over Dreams and Nightmares fell into a dreamless sleep, the repercussions rippled out. Emea began to fold in upon itself and mortals across Idalos experienced vivid dreams, both when asleep or awake. This impacted Dreamwalkers more, and things came to a head when, on the last three trials of Ashan 719, a group of morals were transported to “The Waiting Place”.

From there, they were taken through various strangeness until they found their way to the Cathedral of Dreams, which they approached from four angles. At each stage they were asked to undertake apparently strange tasks which, in fact, allowed them to step more into the Dreaming, asking them to sacrifice parts of themselves which held them to the waking world. When they finally made their way to the center, the MB Twins were ended and The One was born. Although, due to the attack on Kielik by Alistair and the swapping of himself with The One by Tio, Unity was not born in the Cathedral - this temporarily disrupted Emea and required that group of mortals to rebuild part of it.

Shortly after that, or perhaps at the same time (none involved are sure), a small group broke off, following Auya’s sacrifice of her life, in an attempt to save her. This led to The Dead where Immortals, Mortalborn and Mortals worked together and discovered that it is still possible to create Immortals.

Appearance

Unity - or The One - has many faces and may appear in a number of different ways. However, it is most usual that Unity would be seen with a merged face, depicting their dual nature. If not appearing with a dual-aspected face, Unity is most likely to appear as it first did.

Memories of the Past

Unity came in to being in 719. But it has the memories of the beings it was before.

Jesine & Kielik's Memories

How much of Kielik's memories are reality and how much are nightmares is hard to tell, even for Unity. Over his life Kielik witnessed the impossible a multitude of times, from the destruction of all life on Idalos to the creation of a new era of the Original Beings, all through the world of dreams. Because of this, the only memories he knows for certain are his are in regard to his service to Sintra and parts of his time with his family before the death of his mother. Kielik remembered Vri as a good father, if somewhat distant and reserved, who wasn't able to stop the growing madness of his son. Outside that, he doesn't recall any significant details about Vri.

Jesine remembered her mother and father in a more lucid manner than her brother did, although for her too, reality and dreams blurred. Therefore, although her ability to discern what is real and what is not was more developed than her brother's Unity comes into existence somewhat unclear on what is real and what is imagined.

Relationships with other Immortals

Excellent terms with Vri. Edasha. Ymiden. Very wary of Auya. Others, as yet unknown.

Opinions on Magic

Unity has mixed feelings on magic. In Emea, it is dangerous and thus Unity is wary. However, dreams of magic are some of it's favourites and it seeks these out, watching with fascination. Unity will mark a magic user, but is wary of them. Especially Rupturers.

Opinions on Mortals

Unity is a rather simple being in many ways. It wants all mortals to sleep and come to Emea and be theirs. Therefore, it will do what it must to make this happen. What it's drives and/ or passions are ~ or if it has any in fact ~ is yet to be determined.

Racial Specifics

Largely, Unity is uncaring which race an individual belongs to. However, there are two exceptions to this:

  • Unity is positive about Mortalborn
  • Unity is ardently anti Yludih and considers them a plague to be blotted from the landscape of Idalos.

Worship

The One, along with Auya Trueheart, is a new Immortal. It demands active worship in the form of devotion, dedication and commitment. More than anything, it wants the energies from the sleep of mortals and so it tasks its followers with spreading the word and actively bringing new members to it.

Racial Opinions

  • Yludih ~ Negative. See Racial Specifics above.
