Personality

General Traits

Generous Giver: As befits the Immortal of Gifts, Saorie is known for her generosity. Indeed, while she does have a holiday dedicated to her and to the practice, Saoire needs no such specified time for the giving of gifts.

Schoolmaster: While there are Immortals who are wiser or more knowledgeable than Saoire and who have spent much time bringing their higher learning to Idalos, none can claim the level of devotion to the teaching of more basic skills than Saoire, who believes that these basic skills are more valuable than more advanced techniques, as the latter cannot be accessed without the former.

Joyful Bard: Saoire has long been one of those who travels to and fro across Idalos, and those who have, usually unknowingly, will find their spirits lifted and their troubles eased in the presence of Saoire, who usually hides herself as a traveling minstrel so that she can more easily raise spirits and spread joy without being identified as an Immortal.

Unerring Cheer: Saoire is one of the most cheerful beings to ever walk Idalos. Indeed, very few can say they’ve ever seen a genuine frown cross her features, and even then never for very long. This has the side effect of making her easy to get along with for most people, as her cheer tends to draw others to her.

Strengths

Unbreakable Shell: Even more than Ethelynda, Saoire’s defense is completely impenetrable. There is no record of anyone, no matter how much effort they put into it, so much as scratching Saoire with any attack.

Teleporter: Saoire’s Gateways Domain gives her access to any region on Idalos, and perhaps any region beyond as well. For certain, Saoire certainly seems to know more about places like Emea and beings like Dragons than she logically should.

Breadth of Knowledge: While most any Immortal can outperform Saoire in their specific fields, Saoire is one of the few Immortals that can perform at least moderately well in any field, with the exception of combat and warfare.

Weaknesses

Actual Pacifist: Saoire is known as The One Who Does Not Fight, and that is not an exaggeration. Saoire has never, not once in her very long life, raised a hand to harm another living being, nor used her power to bring them to harm, though she will act to defend others from harm. Either due to how she was made or by choice, Saoire does not fight, and it’s entirely possible that she can’t.

Out Of The Loop: Saoire is generally neutral in matters political or religious, and is thus often out of the loop when it comes to what various Idalosian governments or her kin are doing at any given moment, meaning she’s often caught by surprise in the event that any events involve her.

Lack Of Expertise: While Saoire is good at many things, outside of gift giving she doesn’t really excel at anything, meaning that she’s rarely anyone’s first choice when they need Immortal aid.

Personality and Verbal Tics

Knows The Best Gift: Saoire always knows what someone really needs at any given moment, more than their surface wants. She doesn’t always choose to provide this need however, as she knows that just being handed the solution isn’t alway good for someone.

Gentle Reprimand: Even in the event that Saoire does feel the need to scold someone, her tone stays calm and gentle, and she’s never been known to be harsh with someone, even if most others would say that harshness is deserved.

Mother Of The Unchosen: Not of the peoples of Idalos have had a home to belong to or a creator to watch over them. Saoire, however, always has a home for such people and many of the outcasts of Idalos over the centuries have found their home with The Maiden of Gifts.

Patient Teacher: Saoire’s genial nature makes for a very patient teacher, and she’s often said there’s no such thing as a bad or unteachable student. She’s made something of a point over the centuries of teaching those that others say can’t be taught, both to provide her students an education and to hopefully make Idalos a better place in general.

History

Out of all of Ati'el's creations, Saoire is the strangest. None can really say to understand what purpose Saoire was created to serve, much less whether Ati'el considered Saoire a success. What is known is that Saoire was unique among the Immortals in that, unlike all of the other Immortals, Saoire has no drive to fight, for any reason.

Neither history or myth has any record of Saoire so much as throwing a punch at another living being. While she has, several times, been attacked by Immortals, Spirits, and Mortals, she has not fought back. Ati'el created Saoire with so mighty a defense that Saoire has never had need to raise a hand to strike another being. Instead, she allows their aggression to crash futilely against her defenses until her assailant has either given up or utterly exhausted themselves. Once her assailents have spent themselves in their attack and can do no more, Saoire simply continues about her business, leaving her assailant to think on the futility of their actions.

Created near the end of the war against the Dragons, Saoire never took part in any of the battles, instead preferring to spend her time travelling Idalos to see its wonders and learn of its creatures. When the war ended, Saoire began to spend more time among the Shay, teaching them things that the spirits had not and encouraging them to become stronger and smarter, to grow beyond what they had been when the war against the Dragons had begun.

When the Shattering happened, Saoire lost not only her creator, but her students as well. She did not take the loss well and, in grief, spent a century in the ruins of Ati'el's Black Tower, mourning the loss of those she loved. However, when a century had passed and Saoire returned from her mourning, she was surprised and delighted to find a new people had emerged to populate Idalos: Humans.

Humanity, in its infancy, were far less advanced than the Shay had been, but Saoire found that these new Mortals were keen learners who took to her teachings with a voraciousness that utterly delighted her. During her travels, she also found beings that had been cast aside. Small and helpless, these creatures had no one to protect or care for them, so Saoire took them under her care. In time, they would become the Cadouri, the greatest of her gifts.

When the Immortal War broke out, Saoire was among those who refused to fight in the war, instead focusing on helping to keep the humans alive as best she could. When the war finally ended, she was the first to sign the Pact that brought an end to the war. However, the prophecy that a time would come when the Pact would be threatened concerned Saoire, who knew that heroes would be needed to protect the world.

When the Pact was signed and the Immortals turned to leading the Mortals, Saoire used her powers to bring her Emean Domain, the Spectral Turtle into Idalos. On it, she created her own city, her Dream for the future of Idalos. Run by her Blessed who mentor the new lives who will shape the future of Idalos, Saoire's Dream serves as a training ground for those who will keep Idalos from destruction. Saoire herself devotes all her time to her Dream, barring one trial a year where she delivers gifts to the rest of Idalos, to assure those who know of her that she has not forgotten the rest of the Idalos. In 720, when disaster struck Scalvoris, Saoire moved her base of operations to Faldrass, to help the stricken island recover.

Appearance

Saoire is, in her most common appearance, commonly mistaken for a minstrel by those who don't know who she is. She has long blonde hair, with purple ribbons braided into it, dark green eyes, and a somewhat angular face. She tends to wear a red coat over a light green dress tied at the waist with a rope belt, all over green leggings with brown, tasselled boots. She is always carrying at least one instrument, and usually more than that, adding to her minstrel-esque look. The only obvious giveaway as to her non-human nature is her slender, pointed ears.

Memories of the Past

Saoire loved Ati'el, and learned from her, but she did not walk the same path as her mother, and the two met very rarely, as Ati'el attended to her duties as one of the rulers of Idalos, while Saoire kept up her life as a nomadic teacher. She did, however, deeply mourn her mothers passing after the Great Shattering.

Presently

Saoire lives in her Dream, helping to guide and mentor the next generation of Idalosian Champions.
