History
"We'll watch over them, both so that they do not suffer alone and so that they do not catch us unaware."
Frosvinndur was born of the cold and biting wind, and like all of his kin, he was created to aid the Verses and the World Spirit against the Discordant and the Arotinin. Many of the insectoid Arotinin had trouble with the cold, and Frossvindur exploited this weakness in his fights with them, allowing him to defeat them or drive them from the field of battle without causing severe damage.
When the war was over and the Discordant and the Arotinin defeated, Frosvinndur was one of the Dragons who elected to go into exile with their foes. Feeling it was too cruel to leave them alone in their isolation, and knowing that if left alone, the Discordant and the Arotinin would have little else to do but nurse a hateful grudge against those who had defeated them, Frosvinndur volunteered to stay in the far north with one of the groups of Arotinin and Discordant.
When the barrier around their wintery home was formed, Frosvinndur expected to spend a millennia, perhaps the rest of time, imprisoned with his charges. Knowing the difficult climate, and with no desire to spend eternity angry with the only people around, Frosvinndur and the Arotinin and Discordant made peace with each other and worked to make their new home as comfortable as they could. For many a century, as the world outside their barrier continued along without them, they spent their time in peaceful isolation, only noting that once every few centuries or so, the barrier around their home would resonate with some outside change.
Eventually, one of these resonances brought a change to their home. A new people, in forms that none of the original inhabitants had ever seen appeared in their frigid home, attempting to survive the harsh conditions. Humans had arrived on Idalos, even behind the barriers, due to events beyond the knowledge of any of those who lived behind the barriers.
The arrival of the humans was a shock, and it caused a divide between the original inhabitants of the winter reach as to what to do about the humans and whether they should attempt to return to Idalos proper. However, the fragility of the humans, and the already dangerous conditions of their home, quickly led the drew the arguments to a close, with the greater powers starting to work with and guide the humans in surviving the harsh lands they lived in. While the humans chose who among the greater powers of their home to follow, Frosvinndur and the rest of the greater powers remained allies, having become friends and not wishing to make surviving in their winter home any more difficult than it already was.
For many more centuries, the inhabitants of the isolated winter reaches, now known as Vetrarstig, lived without any intrusion from the outside world, again only knowing that it still existed by the occasional incidents of their barrier resonating with some going-on of Idalos.
However, recently, a human from outside the barrier was able to partially travel inside it, seeing a glimpse of the world within the barrier. Eventually, the human, known within Vetrarstig as The Seeker, made his way through the Barrier accompanied by his wife and an Ithecal, a race new to Vetrarstig. The Seeker's name was Padraig Augustine, his wife was Faith Augustine, and their Ithecal companion was Varlum Odenathus. The trio brought some news of Idalos as it was beyond the Barrier, and showed interest in learning more about Vetrarstig and its inhabitants. Frosvinndur met with The Seeker and his companions, and gave them gifts and knowledge to aid their studies. However, Frosvinndur and the other inhabitants of Vetrarstig still know little of what Idalos is like, and remain wary of open contact with Idalos proper.
Personality
Frosvinndur is a calm and calculating creature, and he does not rush into things or make hasty decisions. He also very rarely shows much in the way of warmth towards other beings, preferring to keep an emotional distance from others so as not to compromise his judgement. However, despite his coldness, Frosvinndur is neither cruel nor particularly hostile. While he makes few friends, he has never been known to be rude and his general demeanor is one of easy grace and good manners. He can also be generous at times, as he feels no need to withhold things out of pride or greed. Furthermore, Frosvinndur tends to disdain resorting to brute force, preferring to let his mastery over the cold and the wind wear down his opponents and force them to either surrender or retreat by making the situation unwinnable for them.
However, none of this means that Frosvinndur is weak or soft. If pushed to it, Frosvinndur is a very powerful fighter and he will not hesitate to use whatever force is necessary to deal with a foe who does not buckle before his powers alone.
Appearance
Standing 20 feet at the shoulder, being 15 feet in length, and with a 30 foot wingspan, Frosvinndur makes for an imposing figure just on his size alone. A quadrupedal Dragon, Frosvinndur is generally a dark blue color, with light blue crystals along his body. The same color crystals also form the feathers of his wings and his mane. He also as a large white crystal covering over his chest. The crystals all glow with power.
