Magic Mutations Praetorum

Attunement
Spark Theme & Persona
Suspicion SparkJust as dreams hold up a dark mirror to reality, so too is this mysterious new magic, planted in him during a strange collective dream, a warped reflection to his other sparks. Where Flow and Savior stride forwards, as befitting a mage raised by a warrior, Suspicion holds back, watching and gauging. It brings to life a part of Praetorum almost forgotten, the part of that Ithecal that had been raised, too, by a spy. It is not a spark of inaction, but rather, the calm before the storm, the calibration before a pounce, the plan before a war.

Snap Judgemement
All it took was one betrayal, one instance of laxness, for Prae and Suspicion to be forced into overstepping after fighting for breaks. As a result of this, Suspicion will no longer allow strangers to be unknown to him for long. Whenever Praetorum meets someone new from now on, his spark compels him to use attunement and other observational skills to make a quick assessment of that person's combat & magical abilities, as well as seeking out any signs of deception. This puts the spark in conflict with Prae, who is generally trusting and prefers to think the best of the people around him. Approved here
Defiance
Spark Theme & Persona
Flow Spark Perhaps because the mage who initiated Prae into defiance was also a rupturer, or perhaps some part of his once dragon soul recalls flying unfettered by gravity, or perhaps just out of sheer chance, his defiance spark has a strong affinity for movement, mobility and freedom. This is on a much smaller scale than a rupturing spark, and doesn't compel him to move from city to city, but does mean that he has difficulty staying still.
Witchmark
Every step Praetorum takes is accompanied with a slight gust of wind in the direction he's moving, as if the air itself is trying to help him fly as he walks. The strength of the gust varies, and is always just a little stronger than the ambient wind at the moment. Indoors, it is barely more than a puff, whereas in the midst of a storm, it could be quite strong indeed.

Swim
Approval here
When swimming, Praetorum will find the water becomes much thicker under his hands and feet and around his tail, allowing him to propel himself far better with his webbed fingers and toes and use his tail more effectively as a rudder. On the flip side, if he stops moving while mostly submerged, whether its because he's treading water or floating on the surface or trying to take a bath, the water will start to flow randomly of its own volition, turning into a riptide that drags him wherever the water wants. The riptide will stop short of trying to drown him, but it will make it very difficult for him to get away as it buffets him to and fro.
Expert
Ceaseless Dance
Approval here
Praetorum's Flow spark finds its greatest joy in movement and motion, and as it grows stronger, has less and less patience for stillness. When Dancing the elements, Praetorum will find he is no longer able to dance them into complex static shapes, and when the elements still for more than a few trills, he loses control of them. Even something as simple as a pillar of earth will crumble into a pile of dirt once it ceases to rise. In exchange though, his awareness of the elements in motion has become much defter. The ripples a fish leaves as it swims through a lake, the dirt shifting under the paw of a hound, the currents of hot and cold air in the sky; by entering a meditative state, Praetorum is able to use one train of thought to detect movement in, and through the elements around him. His range for this ability is the same as his range for defiance in general, and its use incurs a passive ether cost while active.

Inner Flame
Approval here
The fire Praetorum has always had in his heart has become somewhat less metaphorical now. When he opens his mouth, a flickering glow can be seen in the back of his throat. His body temperature has risen noticeably as well, enough for most humans to feel uncomfortably warm when they touch his bare scales. He can also produce small candle sized flames on the tips of his claws and tail, although using this too frequently will leave him rather hungry. And while Praetorum can eat food without issue, he will soon find his hunger can only be sated by embers, charcoal, and other burning or burnt materials.
Speed of Lightning
Approval here
Speed of Lightning - Under the influence of Praetorum's flow spark, his chosen refinement, lightning, has learned to Embrace him as the other core elements have. When shooting a bolt of lightning from his person, Praetorum is able to travel along that bolt, emerging anywhere along its path in a moment. This act has its own ether cost, equivalent to using Embrace on any other element along a comparable distance.
Because he travels along the bolt immediately after its creation, his ability to dance it into an unnatural shape is even more limited than before, and the bolt is essentially limited to traveling in a straight line in the direction Praetorum pointed it.
This means that he cannot cross barriers, even conductive ones, as the bolt will disperse upon striking it and deposit him right in front of it. It also means that if the bolt’s path can be altered, whether through electromagnetic interference, or the power of another defier, Praetorum will be forced to emerge somewhere other than where he had expected.
This mutation electrifies Prae constantly to some small degree: magnets and compasses fail unpredictably around him, animals that rely on electromagnetic senses will avoid the area around him, and there is a slight static discharge whenever he brings two claws together.
The final mark this mutation leaves on him is a small lichtenburg figure on the small of his back, still thick with static as if lightning is trying to crawl out of his hide. Each time he travels along a lightning bolt, it grows in size (relative to the distance Praetorum has travelled), branching out in a random direction. While on his back, this figure has no effect. But when the branches reach his limbs, the growing tide of electricity within him begins to take its toll on them. When they reach his shoulder or hips, the respective limb will grow numb and tingly, the effect increasing as the figure grows until it reaches the elbow or knee, whereupon that limb deadens. Anyone who touches that limb while it is deadened will receive a painful electric shock.
This adds an element of risk when Praetorum overuses this ability: after making a very long jump, he might be lucky and find himself more or less in fighting form, with only a slight tingle in each limb, or he might land to find one arm completely useless.
This is not a permanent effect, as the lichtenburg figure slowly shrinks over time, and function returns to his limbs as the branches retreat. But though the overall rate of shrinkage is constant over time, which parts shrink is also random.
Overall, the rate of shrinkage would be three trials to remove all effect from one entire limb (fingertip to elbow, elbow to shoulder, shoulder to back each taking a trial each.)
Hone
Spark Theme & Persona
The hone spark is fairly well suited to its mage, with a strong propensity for rescuing or protecting people. This spark doesn't care much whether its effects are used to help people directly, or if it can boost its mage's power so he can help people. One thing it will absolutely not accept is inaction in the face of people in need. Click the Heading above to see the rest of the Mutations information.

Duty Calls

A ring of flickering Lucis runes, glowing that same frosty blue, floats around the wrist of Praetorum's shield arm. Whenever someone requests aid, or he notices someone in need of help, the runes flash and spin until he at least makes a good faith attempt to help.

Bestowment
Approval here
A second ring of runes encircles Praetorum's right wrist, identical to the one from his competent mutation, with the same effect. Praetorum is able to transfer each of them to any person that needs saving within his sight, which draw four runes on them; resistance on the back, focus on the head, endurance and speed drawn on each arm and dispersed over the whole body. Each ring reforms overnight once transferred, draining the ether required from him over that period of time. Praetorum can also reform each ring while he has the ether to spare, in the amount of time it would take for him to draw a single rune.
Those who wear his rings are marked as under his protection while the runes still linger on them, a responsibility his Savior spark takes very seriously. Should any of them die (as far as he knows) while still under his protection, a ring of black runes will appear around his throat. This ring compels him to self flagellate over his failure, and will not dissipate until he places himself in a state of painful sensory overload for at least 10 bits with the runes of sound, sight, or touch. Though Praetorum is capable of resisting this urge for short periods of time, the compulsion grows stronger the longer he resists.
Master
Ebb and Flow
Approval of original mutation here and amended here
Having been influenced by Praetorum's master defiance spark, Praetorum's runes have taken on the visual appearance of blue lightning, seeming to constantly crackle with electricity. And like electricity, the power in Praetorum's runes has learned to flow. Where normally, chained runes split the power of each rune equally, Praetorum is now capable of drawing chained runes with uneven power levels, but with the same overall strength and ether cost as before. For instance, he could now have a three rune chain where the strength rune is at 50% power, the endurance rune is at 30%, and the speed rune is at 20%. However, no rune can go below 20% or above 80% in power.
This mutation broadens Praetorum's options, in many respects. But it also narrows them. As this mutation takes effect, he will find he is no longer capable of drawing unchained runes, either on himself or on others.
There are only a few exceptions to this, where the nature of the rune itself prevents the flow of power. The runes of prediction and rebound burn up far quicker than any other, while the rune of resistance naturally disperses through the body in a way other runes don't. Their unique nature means that these three runes cannot be chained at all, and must be used alone. Additionally, while Prae is still only capable of drawing overloaded runes chained, the nature of the technique shatters the chain, and only overloads one of the runes at full power while dismissing the other(s). Which rune is overloaded is random.
Born for Glory
Approval here
The Savior spark, hungering for glory, has a particular penchant for the most awe inspiring of Runewright techniques, the Lucis Bond. When using this technique, Praetorum is able to double the casting time to halve the ether cost of this ability.
This mutation has two additional effects as the spark craves more and more attention:
First, Praetorum's runes can no longer be hidden under clothing or armor; even if drawn on bare skin and covered up, the runes will emerge through those layers and sit where they can be seen. This includes the rings of runes from his competent & expert mutations.
Second, it is not enough, for the Savior spark, that its host should rescue those in need; it desires to be used, and to be seen being used to help others. Praetorum will find himself compelled to, where possible, use Hone while saving or helping people, even if it might not be necessary, or when other skills may be more suited. Other magics and skills can be used, of course, but the Savior spark demands the spotlight.
