Spark Persona: The Scientist

Doran’s Transmutation spark is a spark that wants to know everything, see everything, feel everything and taste everything. It wants to understand what the world is made of, attempt to reshape it and change the things found therein – and find out how far it can go. It is curious, vain, creative and endlessly ambitious, it delights in complexity and strives for perfection in the things that it creates. [Approval]

Witchmark

Glimmering dark red markings have appeared above Doran’s heart where the ether missile pierced his body. This is a purely cosmetic mutation. [Approval]

The Impervious

Imbuing items with different qualities and improving them is an important aspect of Transmutation and one that Doran’s spark enjoys. It has realized that Doran prefers to make as many of the base materials as possible himself and has decided to change him in order to make it easier for him to do so which will hopefully subsequently make him imbue items more often.

Doran’s hands, up to three inches above his wrists, are much more durable than they used to be and possess some resistance to harmful effects. He can, among other things, touch a piece of metal that has not cooled down yet with his bare hands for up to three bits without suffering any kind of negative consequences or remove a pot from the burner without having to wonder where he put his gloves or his tongs, thus speeding up the process.

Additionally, he can reach into an open fire, an acid or a boiling liquid, for example in order to remove a material that he is preparing for imbuement from it. As long as he doesn’t maintain contact with the fire, the acid or the boiling liquid for longer than a bit, he won’t be hurt.

In other regards, Doran’s hands are just as vulnerable as before.

The most obvious signs of this mutation are dark red lines on the back of Doran’s hands and fingers that are almost impossible to hide. Unless he wears gloves, people will always notice that there’s something different about his hands. If his hands are cut, there will be a faint, red shimmer in addition to blood as the mutation is not just superficial but affects a core aspect of his skin. [Approval]

The Epicurean

Doran’s Transmutation spark wants to study a wide variety of different qualities. It isn’t content with simply and unrefined things. This penchant for complexity does not only apply to the things that it sees and touches, but also to the food that it tastes.

As a result of this mutation, Doran is drawn to interesting textures, exotic tastes, fine drinks and luxurious meals. He is no longer content with a simple meal, such as a slice of bread and a piece of meat, and he will derive less nourishment than he previously did from it.

Meals that are complex and of high quality on the other hand will make Doran feel more energetic, satisfy his body as well as his soul and sustain him much longer than before. [Approval]

Expert

Absorbant

Not all scientists live safe and peaceful lives and spend their trials in libraries and laboratories. Some, like Doran, live dangerous lives, they fight and kill in order to harvest the materials that they need for their creations and are fascinated by things that would make others draw back in fear.

Normally, Absorption has to be most often be done through touch. As a result of this mutation, Doran can forego the need to come into physical contact with his target though; instead, he can simply hold his hand over it or point his hand at it - or strike his opponent with his blade - in order to steal power which makes him a dangerous opponent, even when fighting other mages.

Of course, this can also be used for defense.

Doran needs to focus harder on his target if he wants to absorb ether like that instead of through touch which means that having a high Discipline or Meditation skill makes this more effective. Additionally, this new ability is limited to a distance of approximately six feet.

As a consequence of this mutation, the crimson lines that are on the back of Doran’s hands have started to creep up his arms and become more pronounced when he uses Absorption.

Furthermore, Doran’s ether will forever be crimson from now on.

The ability to absorb ether through his sword, for example, does not make Doran’s Absorption more powerful. He cannot absorb more ether or pierce shields that were created with Abrogation more easily. This mutation provides him with an alternative way of absorbing ether, nothing more and nothing less. Tactile

Doran’s spark is a spark that wants to see and taste – and feel. As a consequence of reaching expertise in his chosen magic, Doran’s sense of touch has sharpened. He can feel imperfections in objects that he might not have noticed before, he can tell different materials apart by running his fingers across them more easily and subsequently choose the perfect base item for his transmutation more quickly and effectively, and even brief touches upon his skin are more noticeable than they used to be.

In order to experience this kind of increased sensitivity and make use of this mutation effectively, Doran needs to focus hard and be skilled in both Meditation and Detection. It is not something that is always there and happens automatically. Reaching a state of focus and increased sensitivity is easier and faster the higher Doran's Meditation skill is.

There is a downside to focusing and subsequently feeling more. The same thing that makes Doran notice more about that which he touches renders him more sensitive to pain. Being that sensitive also makes it harder for him to resist torture, for example, and might cause some discomfort if he rests on a surface that is made of a coarse or crude material. Those effects last as long as Doran made use of the ability that the mutation affords him (e.g. if he used it for half a break, he'll be more vulnerable for half a break). [Approval]
