The Blessing of Vhalar
Those possessing the Blessing of Vhalar, Vaelus, appear to have runic symbols tattooed from the left side of their face, down their neck and shoulder and finally, dropping off onto their side. These symbols appear differently from person to person, sometimes in different formations. This blessing is almost always mistaken for an odd tattoo but it's the colors of the mark that captivates others. The colors vary from shining silver, gold, red, and a deep black. If one looks close enough, the colors appear to move within the mark, as if it's water reflecting sunlight.
Favored
Ability Name | Ability Description |
---|---|
Autumn's Servant | This ability grants the Vaelus a small Autumn spirit familiar. Taking the physical manifestation of autumn leaves, and the strong smell of a Harvest, this spirit is not one granted for combat but rather for protection. The spirit can innately communicate when something the Favored is about to eat is rotten, altered, or poisoned. Ordinarly it is a patient and quiet spirit, communicating in simple concepts and generally enjoying the Favored's presence.
Should this spirit ever be destroyed it will take one whole Cycle before another will come. |
Art Works (1 Color) | For Vhalar, there is no greater pursuit than that of an artist. This ability works off that artist's skill of creation. Drawing, Painting, or Sculpting are the skills used in tangent with this power specifically, although some dancers and poets have found some success utilizing it as well. This ability allows the artist to create a small item from a special Immortal paint they can draw from their mark. Usually this item can be no larger than a long sword and must be a simple item. 1 color refers to the first color of Vhalar's palatte that the Favored has to draw from. This can be any color but it is the only color that can be used with this ability. Creations last only a few breaks before dissolving and this ability cannot be used more than twice a trial at this level. |
Discipline Skills I | The character is granted an extra three skill points which may be spent only on the following skills: Any Weapons skill, Art, Socialization, Linguistics, or Leadership. Any skill points granted by this Mark can break the 250 (or 100 if fast track) point cap on skills. Within these skills, the points may be spent how the pc chooses. |
Crafting Creations | This ability allows the character to make things not normally appealing into fashionable, protective, tasteful items or food. Acting as a buff, the character has a greater chance of crafting exceptional items. Any artwork or general crafts made by the Vaelus sells for 25% more than the list price. |
Lesser Oath | The Favored is able to put the force of Vhalar behind small promises. Only one oath may be active at any time and the other party must willingly swear to honor the oath. This oath is minor and can only be as complicated as a simple act of service. Should this act be performed to expectation, the one the Favored pacted with will enjoy unexpected fortune for the next three trials. Should they fail to honor the bargain, however, either party will begin to face a series of unexpected setbacks and accidents till the debt is honored. This oath cannot be struck over an impossible task nor done so with hidden intentions. |
Uplifting Hymn | A song normally conducted through chant and drum. This ability is often performed for a small group of people and serves as an empowering rally. This ability sends out subtle suggestions to the surrounding audience of unity and strength. Often times, the ability is used to form a subtle, weak bond with the group of people. This Hymn can banish artificially and naturally created fear. Any fear based ability used by a marked of higher tier than the Vaelus will not be effected by this Hymn. |
Blood Bond (Minor) | This ability may only be used on one other person as it has the power to connect both the character and the individual to each other. When the blood bond is made, an oath is taken between two people, an oath of service and alliance. Only one such Bond can be active for the Vaelus. After the bond is made, both characters are linked mentally, though they may only feel impressions of the other's thoughts. The blood bond must be honored. Whomever breaks the sanctity of this Oath on their blood will be denied the benefit of it. Until reparations and forgiveness is granted for the breach in the oath, the one who breaks it will find their blood will no longer clot. |
Material Connection (Minor) | This ability works in conjunction with the Blood Bond ability. With the use of both the character's blood and the individual's blood they performed the bond with, the character is able to synchronized the blood into any item or substances with a clear, reflective, or transparent surface. This item is able to reveal images from either the character or the individual they are bonded to. At this level, the images appear hazy and deformed, as if the image was from a dream. A Vaelus can always sense the direction and distance between themselves and those of the Blood Bond. |
Oathbreaker | A Vaelus with this ability is instantly aware if the person they are speaking to has broken an oath of value. Simple lies are minor and often ignored with this ability but traitors, cowards, schemers, and other disreputable souls are not able to hide their misdeeds from the eyes of the Vaelus. While the exact details of their broken oath cannot be determined, a general impression will reveal itself in their minds eye. Note, this ability only works on broken oaths. If a character thinks they broke an oath but did not, this ability will not sense that. If they, however, broke an oath but consider it to be justified and feel no guilt, this ability CAN sense that breach. |
Adored
Ability Name | Ability Description |
---|---|

Creations can range to the size of a small horse and are capable of being directed by the Vaelus. Multiple small objects or one larger one can be constructed of the paint and the mixed colors grant shape and motion to the creations. At this level, however, the creations must be directed by the Vaelus. Constructed objects are durable, but not impenetrable. This ability is still able to be used twice a trial and for the same length of time. |
Repair Majesty | Usually when art is damaged, it is lost forever. The artwork can never be the same. Repair Majesty allows the Vaelus to repair any work of art they come across, restoring it to its original former beauty. Some Vaelus use this ability in conjunction with archeology, discovering strange ways older cultures used art in the past and some ensure that true beauty is never lost. Some scrap of the artwork must still survive for this ability to be used. This ability does not work on the Art Works creations. |
Dance of the Dav Ranis | This ability is usually performed in a large crowd and will, almost always, convince the rest of the people to dance as well. The dance of the Dav Ranis honors knowledge learned and lost. Those who dance to honor the Dav Ranis are buffed with a sense of enlightenment. This ability is used during festivals and may only be performed once or twice an arc. (All individuals who participate in the dance, including the character, are given 5 extra skill points to distribute into any skill save magic or Dreamwalking. Only one dance can be used per thread, no matter how many marked perform it. In addition, this dance naturally strengthens the spirit against the denizens of the world beyond. For the Cycle that follows, those who participated (including the marked) gain a much stronger resistance to the power of ghosts and spirits. |
Blood Bond (Moderate) | This ability may only be used on one other person as it has the power to connect both the character and the individual to each other. After the bond is made, both characters are linked mentally, able to telepathically communicate over any distance. In addition, both blood bonded can exchange the wounds they've taken with the other's permission. The blood bond must be honored. Whomever breaks the sanctity of this Oath on their blood will be denied the benefit of it. Until reparations and forgiveness is granted for the breach in the oath, the one who breaks it will find their blood will no longer clot. In addition, whomever did not break the oath can choose to injure themselves and transfer that wound to the violater, if desired. Non fatal wounds are the only ones that can be exchanged without permission. |
Material Connection (Moderate) | This ability works in conjunction with the Blood Bond ability. With the use of both the character's blood and the individual's blood they performed the bond with, the character is able to synchronized the blood into any item or substances with a clear, reflective, or transparent surface. This item is able to reveal images from either the character or the individual they are bonded to. At this level, the images appear clear but it's difficult to decipher which images are from the character or the other individual. In addition, small objects can be passed through the reflective surface which will find their way into the hands of the Bonded. |
Extraordinary Creation | At this level, the creation of a Vaelus will sell for 50% more than its listed price. Their work will be well known in any location they sell it. Art a Vaelus creates can also be instilled with a single emotion during its construction, an emotion which persists upon the minds of those who view this art. |
Autumn Armor | The Favored is able to call upon the protection of Vhalar in the form of scale armor that forms around them in a flurry of styleized leaf-shaped scales. This armor is as durable as steel and burnished the color of autumn leaves. The armor, however, is light as leaves across the body allowing for unparalleled freedom of movement so long as it is equipped. The armor can last up to four breaks a trial, dismissed and called whenever it is needed. |
Exalted
Ability Name | Ability Description |
---|---|
Harvest King | The Fall is the time of the Harvest, when crops are finally brought in and sold. It is a time of feasting and profit for Agrarian cultures throughout Idalos. Harvest King is the ability which allows an Exalted ensure a successful Harvest is maintained. While it does not grow plants from dead soil, it does restore vitality and viability to all food harvested. An Exalted is always able to restore rotted or damaged food to a perfect state. There is no limit to this ability and some Exalted are respected and loved as those who can save a crop from any disease or blight that might befall them. In the farming communities, this ability is the liveliehood of those people and an Exalted is always welcome. |

Any skill points granted by this Mark can break the 250 (or 100 if fast track) point cap on skills. Within these skills, the points may be spent how the pc chooses. |
Art Works (3 Colors) | At Exalted, a third color is added and creations can range to the size of small homes. The third color imparts Fluidity on anything created with this ability, allowing a creation to adapt, change, and move on its own accord. No longer does a Vaelus need to worry about spending their concentration on directing the movement of their creations. Now they will move on their own with simple instructions and shift their bodies and shape to compensate for any damage done to them. The same time restrictions remain as the other variations of this ability, although small bits of the Paint can be used rather than the entire ability, stretching out when and how much are used within its limitations. |
Paint Body | An Exalted in an impossible situation can call upon this ability for escape. Usable once every six trials, the Exalted's body dissolves into a collection of colors, a current of paint under the direction and control of the marked. When in their paint form they can slip under cracks, escape dangerous situations, and are largely immune to most conventional damage. Drying the paint would certainly destroy them and washing it away will force an Exalted to stay unformed longer. However, an Exalted can also make use of this ability to merge with their Art Work creations to add to their mass or hide within whatever form they had created. An Exalted cannot cast magic or use any offensive ability while in this form. |
Moving Paintings | Once a painting is finished, before the liquid has time to truly dry on the canvas, the character may use their blessing to bestow upon the artwork a sense of life. Thus, the painting beings to move. Creating a moving painting is very time consuming, especially when blessing it. Once the painting is blessed, the user is extremely exhausted. These Moving paintings can also speak. Stories can be programmed into them, entire stories of shifting paints and landscapes to show what the Exalted desires. These arts are far more resilient than ordinary creations and tend to long outlast the one who painted or created them. |
Blood Bond (Major) | This ability may only be used on one other person as it has the power to connect both the character and the individual to each other. When the blood bond is made, an oath is taken between two people, one that must be fulfilled before the bond can be broken. After the bond is made, both characters are linked mentally and physically. Both character will not only be able to telepathically communicate but they'll be able to feel any physically infliction suffered by the other, regardless of the distance. If a character made a blood bond with an individual before achieving this level, the bond allows both sides to make use of mark abilities the other is capable of. The same cooldowns apply for both. This does not grant extra uses of an ability, just the ability for a Blood Bonded to use them when needed.
In addition, magic can be shared across this link although the Blood Bonded will be restricted from using magic at any level they don't have the Knowledge to support. Overstepping effects apply to BOTH bonded when incurred. For those who break an oath of this magnitude, death will shortly follow if reparations are not made. |

This item is able to reveal images from either the character or the individual they are bonded to. At this level, the images appear clear and can easily be discerned by both the character and the individual. Additionally at this level, through a reflective surface, a Vaelus or the bonded can create a portal between the two in order to bring eachother back together. |

This festival must last for a minimum of three trials. At the end of this time, they must take with them a token of some kind from this festival and, for the rest of the arc whilst they have the token with them the potency of the other powers granted to the Champion will be increased. The magic of this oath will enforce the penalty should the oath be broken. The rewards, as well, can be variable. An Audience with another Immortal, a sacred lost treasure, the resurrection of a loved one. Connected to all the Immortals by the Oath they all signed to cease aggression, Vhalar can call on the powers of his family to fulfill almost any request made as a stipulation. The only requirement is that the reward and punishment must fit the task. If the task is great, the rewards and punishments may also be great. This Oath cannot be forced on another and must be agreed to freely.. |
The Curse of Vaelus
Vhalar takes great joy in utilizing his curse against the dishonest and deceitful. Those who infuriate Vhalar or threaten his followers will find he is decisive and swift with his curses and almost never willing to forgive one without some task in return.
Hated
The Hated of Vhalar are no longer able to lie. Forced to follow their word and honor their oaths, the character will find that they are no longer capable of dishonesty to others or breaking their word once given. Any attempt to do so will overcome them with nausea till the correct course of action is taken. This ability also allows them to know a lie if they speak it. If a Hated of Vhalar speaks something that is a lie, even if they are unaware, the same nausea and revulsion will overcome them. This simple advantage will overcome even Exalted level marks to obscure the truth.
Despised
The Despised of Vhalar are bound permanently to their Greatest foe. Unable to slay them, they are instead forced to grant their most hated enemy at least three tasks that they are honorbound to complete. Their enemy may refuse this service, but they will know instantly that it is compelled and truthful. If the Despised completes these tasks, they can earn a reprieve from this level of curse.
Condemned
The Condemned of Vhalar are the most vile of oathbreakers and repeat offenders. For daring to anger the Immortal so thoroughly they are transformed into works of art, serving better as a beautiful example of art and culture to people than as breathing beings. The souls of these 'living' art pieces remain with the art until that art is destroyed or the curse is lifted.
