Its seeds and roots are the most potent in poison crafting, and only those with expert resistance and competent field craft may eat these in a pinch without further preparation.
Native to:
South Eastern Idalos
Locations:
Desnind, Augiery, and the lands surrounding.
Appearance:
The Black Lotus is a flower with dark petals, ranging from deep violet to a blackened indigo. Its vines are thick and its white roots grow deep into the soil, making it difficult to relocate without trauma to the plant. Delicate and known to glow in the darkness, its center is most commonly a soft pink. Its appearance and relaxing scent make it primarily favored among the Naer, however it has been recorded as an omen of bad luck in other cultures.
Habitat:
Unlike the average lotus that thrives in bright light and warm climates, the Black Lotus enjoys dim and humid areas with loose soil allowing for its roots to spread quick and strong.. Very sensitive to cold temperatures, this lotus will instantly begin to wilt when exposed to temperatures below 70° fahrenheit (21° celsius) and is virtually unknown to the Northern region, as any attempts of bringing the flower overseas has resulted in immediate failure. During these colder months, these plants die, and their seeds are displaced by animals preparing for hibernation, some lucky enough to find good growing grounds when the suns return to the sky.
Lifespan and Development:
A tiny black seed, most Black Lotuses do not make it past this stage of their life, however a few lucky enough to be planted in the proper conditions quickly split and sprout roots. Due to its properties, its vines are the first to break the soil's surface, followed by leaves and finally buds. Unlike other lotuses, which bloom in sunlight, these pretty flowers prefer the exact opposite, only opening in the darkest of paths. It is not uncommon for the few found to remain completely sealed until Cylus, as any attempts to force the petals open shock the plant and cause it to secrete a poisonous oil that irritates the skin.
Uses:
Poisoncrafting, medicinal aids, & artistic experimentation.
Blind Cat Elixir/Philter of Night Vision
Boil the petals to create a lavender syrup, strain any remnants from the liquid and ferment overnight for seven days with glowing moss and spring water. For every three flowers used in creation, 1oz of this philter is harvested and grants nightvision for upwards of 30 bits per use. More than a few applications in a single trial can result in light sensitivity and tension migraines. Abuse of this elixir can result in permanent blindness and disturbing hallucinations. Prices doubled if purchased during Cylus or outside of the Southern continent. If both are true, prices are modified x4. Base price of 45gn per ounce.
==Indigo Dye== The pigment of the Black Lotus can be extracted and used as a rich vibrant coloring, as rare as the flower itself. Master seamstresses and dressmakers covet the color, as it gives even the roughest of fabrics an ethereal sheen, shimmering between a dark indigo to a black violet.
Abilities:
A casual threat to hungry wilderness adventurers, the Black Lotus can actually be a great survival tool. Those who have been affected by rashes or venomous bites can bandage the leaves to the afflicted area to aid in drawing out toxins. This plant, however, is no miracle cure. If too much time has passed since the injury and/or has been given the opportunity to spread, the most this plant can do is buy the injured time until more specialized medical treatment can be received.
