The world was rushing around as the Order was finish the last of the set up for opening of the hospital. Genna moved with a determined pace as she went through the list she had prepared. Making sure that everything would be ready for the opening. The young woman always found it amusing when people said they wanted something simple. Simple just didn’t exist in this context. Unless one want to literally just open the doors and say to people come on in. Genna amended that thought, as she looked at the list in her hand. The bulk of the list actually wasn’t related to the ceremony itself. It has making sure the final touches were arranged on the administrative part of the hospital.

Faith had done a wonderful job organizing the structure of the hospital so Genna was aware of what was to be done, but people were people and things could go wrong, or be forgotten. The young blond healer was actually glad things were so well organized cause it made things less difficult. Thinking of Faith Genn frowned. She was supposed to be here by now for this. As master mind of this project as well as being head of the order the opening of this hospital was her honor. Her not being here or a note not having arrived seemed like a bad omen to the healer.

She walked into one of the offices and saw others who had received assignments waiting. Genna joined them. They each had assignments in preparations. Genna blinked and checked the time. They had time but things were beginning to creep up on them. As head of the Rharne branch Genna had seniority here but she looked around one more time to see if she could see Faith. No she wasn’t there. The blond young woman frowned but stepped forward and said. “Has anyone see Faith?” There was a general mummer but the end result was a no. “Well does anyone have any concerns, anything they need help with.” Genna listened as a few last minutes surprises were brought up. She nodded her head and made a few directions that were phrased as suggestions. Once those concerns had been addressed the various men and women who ran specific departments raced to make there last minute preparations for the opening.

Genna soon found herself alone in the office. She was frowning again. Walking over to the desk she rummaged through the neat stacks to see if there was a note or message from Faith. The sapphire eyed young woman looked calm and composed, but that was only through habit. She was also aware that Faith had and could be drawn away for any number of reasons at the last minute, but something just seemed off about this particular timing.

Genna looked up as a person rushed into the office. Genna maintain her composure as the blue clock rushed into the room. The man was young, but he looked exhausted. His eyes were wide and wild, and Genna could tell that he was on the verge of panicking. His clothing was skewed and clearly hadn’t been chosen to wear for a big event. Genna moved around the desk and walked forward, worried about the man. Before she could do anything he rushed forward and grabbed her shoulders. “I have to talk to who every is in charge.” He said. Genna could tell that he was in shock.

“How about you sit down.” Genna said calmly even as the man squeezed her arm.

“No I need to talk to who ever is in charge.” He said again.

“How about you tell me.” Genna said smiling calmly.

“Are you in charge.” He asked.

“Yes.” Genna said as she felt his grip loosen and she pushed towards one of the chairs. “Can I get your name?”

“I am Nason I work in Eglium. It was terrible. They came in the night. They attacked in the night.” He said as Genna successed at getting him into a seat. Someone poked their head in. Genna mouthed ‘In shock’ to the blue cloak. They nodded. ‘I will get some tea.’ They mouthed back. Genna turned back and checked the man’s vitals as he kept talking about attacking in the night. She was able to collect that he was trying to tell her a story, and she gathered that Pirates had attacked Eglium in the middle of the night. Genna expressed her concerns and made a mental note to send help once things were cleared here.

“Then it happened.” He said and grabbed her wrists. “They killed her.”

Genna paused. “Killed who?” She asked.

“Faith was killed.” Then man seemed to collapse at that point. “I have this letter.” He said pulling out the a letter. Genna paused at the man’s statement but then took the letter.

“Lets get you taken care of.” Genna said as the other blue cloak came in with the tea. “Nason is dealing with shock, and I think a panic attack.” The young woman nodded her head. Genna slipped out of the office and took the letter.

To the heads of the Order of the Adunih.

I am sorry, but I have to say that Faith died last night while defending Eglium. Woe is also bed ridden as a results of attack. I don’t have all of the details but it appears that there were multiple attacks on Scalvoris. We are helping as well as we can, but more help would be appreciated.

Jen, Gold cloak of Eglium.

Genna’s hand didn’t shake but there was a small gasp of breath. She leaned against the wall as she felt her knees becoming weaker. Her mind was struggling with the news of the letter. She could understand why the young man Nason was in shock. Genna wasn’t in shock but she wanted to be in denial. She could also feel the grief building up inside of her. She breathed deeply trying to keep the grief under control. Once Genna would have buried the grief. Not anymore, but she knew that right now she didn’t have time for grief. There was stuff to be done. Grief could certainly come and would come. Genna fought and after a few moments, and a number of tears she found herself under control. This hospital needed to be opened and its services already needed to be used.

Gennadiya took a deep breath as she focused on the terrible news. It took her a few moments and then her mind began to pounder other questions. Faith was supposed to lead this event. Luckly she had structured the organization such that much of it was rolling with out her, but she wouldn’t be her to do the actual opening of the ceremony. There were other questions as well who would lead the order, what about her children.

The platinum blond healer breathed in deeply and brought her emotions under control. She stood there for a few moments and then moved. She was aware that the best way to get past something was not to wallow but to moved forward, and so that was what she would do. While she wasn’t the head of the order, she was the head of the Rharne branch of the order and they were closest to her territory. Genna wasn’t afraid of taking charge when needed and something was needed now.

She would help the order get through this trail and the next if necessary. Raising her chin she began to work.

*****

Everyone had gathered for the opening. Members of the order and various dignitaries were gathered In the central courtyards. Genna looked around at the people standing by ready for the opening. It wasn’t anything huge anyways, that wasn’t Faith’s way nor was it the orders way. It also wasn’t Genna’s way either. Ever one was gathered and chatting quietly as they waited for the event to start. The young woman stood with other Senior members of the Order.

Genna hadn’t shared her message yet with everyone in general. A few people had been told but only those who it was necessary to tell and also who wouldn’t shut down with the news. By this point it was generally accepted that Faith wasn’t there on this particular trial which shocked some, while others knew her well enough to know that sometimes she found herself helping people in crises. The attack on Scalvoris the night before had entered the rumor mill. Genna was aware that those were the two whispered topic of conversation.

Genna stood calmly, every once of her self control going into maintaining that calm. Inside she was struggling with her friends death, but she would have time to grieve, but now others needed her and that was the most important thing. Genna turned as a grey cloak approached her. The middle aged woman was one of the administrators who was there to help with the trial to trial running of the hospital. She was one of them who was aware. She was pink around the eyes but it was the only sign of her sorrow. “Genna it is time, and we have most of who said they would come.”

“Thank you.” Genna said and moved to the center of the make shift stage. The crowd began to quiet as the young woman walked steadly to the stage. She walked at the same pace she always walked, her booted feet taking each step firmly and solidly. When she got to the stage she turned and faced the audience. She gave them a small smile, a small sad smile. In this she couldn’t hide her grief. She just stood with that sad smile and the room soon quieted as the ceremony started.

“People of Idalos, we of the Order welcome you here totrial. We thank you for coming and for honoring this event with us. This hospital is a gift and a blessing to the world. It is here for all people of all nations to use. Thanks to Saoire and her gates all may come here so that distance and location no longer is a hinderance to the best care possible. We thank all how have made this even possible, and we honor you. We also thank Ilaren who honored us with a location to build. And we thank all of Immortals, Induks and Dragons who helped.”

Genna paused. “As some of you have already heard, Scalvoris was attacked by pirates last night. So already the need for this hospital is called upon. Because of that I will not make this speech long as the wonderful healers here will be needed as the gates open.” Genna paused again as she felt a catch in her throat. “What’s more the attack on the northern island is what has drawn Faith, the founder of this hospital away.” Genna paused again for a longer moment the tears coming to the corner of her eyes. “It is my honor to tell you that last night Faith did what she loved best to do. She served others, she saved lives. In doing so she gave the ultimate service. It is with great love for the brave woman we all admired that I tell you she gave her life in the service of others.” Genna paused and let the crowd have there moment.

She only let the commotion go on for a moment before raising her hand. “Her death will bring sorrow to us all. And we will have time to morn her, but her and now we need to open this hospital. We need to help the people of Scalvoris, we need to honor her name and memory.” Genna turned and looked at the staff. “Brothers and sisters. It is time. This hospital is open. Let us heal the people of the world.”

Genna stepped off the platform to walk over and join the other healers to help those who came into the hospital totrial.

Feedback

Oh wow, I'm really glad I got to review this myself. Gennadiya is certainly a different kind of leader than Faith was, but that's not a bad thing. I'm sure in time she'll be every bit as powerful a force in the world as Faith was, and even now I'd say she's every bit as great a character as Faith. She couldn't have chosen a better successor, really.

I enjoyed the references and inclusion of the Egilrun Order of the Adunih members, Nason was certainly played properly, and Jan's note was understandably laconic.

I thought Gennadiya's speech, while short, was brilliant and heartfelt. Gennadiya is an amazing character like I said, and I've always enjoyed the way she stands out from other members of the Order. It truly is a varied organization, with all types. And now more will get the chance to intermingle with the Order now that it's open to the world in this Hospital.

Great thread, great writing.
