Starting with the refinement of the Miragestone Wells, he had worked the projection properties out of the Wells, avoiding causing the wells to begin to degrade into smog. The tapping process had taken trials and he was in no rush, as this would be his first attempt at working the resulting well into an item.
He had worked the metal into a cylindrical shape before making the holes to allow the buttons to be placed. It was designed to fit comfortably into the hand of an adult, human-sized individual.
He had carefully worked the refined miragestones into two separate ingots of Blue-glass / Embersteel Alloy with all the colours of the rainbow smouldering over its surface, thanks to some alchemy and a little Scalvaris Rainbow sand.
He had almost all of the parts he needed, including the little circular buttons to be pressed. They just needed the Chii Wells to be added in order to allow the two devices to actually communicate with each other. Testing they worked had been a very simple process really, by taking the Chii stones and placing one on each of the Encorcelled items, the connection was formed. Now he needed them to fit into the apertures for the buttons so that they could be turned on and off. When pressed, the Chii Well would be pressed against the metal of the device that contained the Miragestone. When pressed again, it would be removed. He had sat clicking and un-clicking the button for hours until Angela had confiscated the prototype while he was designing the multi-button variant and informed him that should he persist, that he would never see it again.
Now, having tapped the Chii Well, he needed to cut it down to the desired size. It had taken most of the morning, just to chip off the final bits while putting right the imbalances doing so created as he went with his tapping-hammers.
He took the finished half-well in hand and dropped it into the device as a nock came at the door.
"Et's safe!"
Shinwa
entered the the room with a letter on a plate. "You have a letter from Miss Felicia Hounsworth at the Orphanage, sir."Winston chuckled as he gently placed the spring into place. There seemed to be nothing he could do to stop the butler from addressing him formally at all times. He was barely able to convince the man that plates were not needed for letters. Perhaps this rigidity came from him being a ghost, or perhaps it was simply his personality, but either way, he seemed more comfortable with these things in place and so the Cadouri had stopped pestering him to change. "Oh! Lovely..." He had checked on the orphanage a few days ago right after the attacks to find that they were unscathed by the events of the night, much to his relief. "Wat's et say?"
"Would you like me to read it for you, sir?"
"Yes, please, Shinwa."
"Very god, sir." The butler cleared his throat as he took the letter and held it out. "Dear Winston. I hope this letter finds you in good health, but I was hoping you could pop by the orphanage to see the children. Since the attacks, some of the children have been quite unsure about leaving the house and Alfie has even flat-out refused to leave until you come to assure him that it is safe. I'm very sorry to impose, but if you could possible..."
Winston was already packing up his things as Shinwa paused, seeing there seemed to have already been a decision made. He folded the letter and placed it back onto the plate. "Will you be taking us with you, sir?"
"Yup. Dis calls far a visit fram Chest." He paused, thoughtful for a moment. "Es Angela around?"
"Yes, sir."
"Let's get 'er to. Dis calls far de big guns..."
"Very good, sir."
With that, he picked up the finished device, licked the button and smiled as a little hologram of himself appeared on the other device. "Vega will nat mind ef meh give dis one tuh de Orphanage, me es share."
"Absolutely not, sir."
