History
"... Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily— Life is but a dream."
Freya's mother was a woman of adventure, sailing the seas and going to lands most dream to venture into. During her time of travel, she came across Freya's father, a Biqaj that was settling somewhere off the coast of Rharne. The throws of passion with a handsome stranger brought Freya to the chaotic world of Idalos. By the time the babe was born, her mother had settled in Ne'haer and was working diligently as well as trying to get both herself and her daughter adopted into one of the many clans that settled in Ne'haer harbor.
The birthing of a child was never easy and in such pain and exhaustion, Freya lost her mother not even breaks later. As the word spread throughout the clans that there was now an orphaned Biqaj baby within the city, Freya was quickly adopted by the Nal'raki clan, meaning 'Sea Guardian' in Rakahi. She was raised as one of them, trained as one of them, taught the language appropriately, and given her first boat like any Biqaj clansmen when she came of age.
However, Freya was less inclined to venture into the ocean. As she grew up, she'd always been told that she was an outsider to the bloodline of the clan, that she only belonged with them in name. Freya understood that death had taken her mother but no one knew of her father and because she started to realize how much history she was missing from her life, the young biqaj withdrew into herself.
It was during this time in her childhood that she met Kian, a boy that was mistakenly born human instead of fish. They spent much time together with him trying to drag her not only out of her unease and depression, but into the water as well. When she finally gave up on feeling miserable, she jumped into the whirlpool of change he brought for her.
As the Arcs passed, Kian began sailing regularly, taking Freya aboard his small ship so many times that the girl thought of it as a second home. He was an ambitious boy that had dreams of swimming in waves of nel rather than the sea. Freya chuckled at such prospects but nevertheless, she was inspired by him and decided to follow such dreams along side him. They took up sailing jobs together for a merchant company that offered little for the work the two did. Though Kian enjoyed it, Freya would often hide the sexism pointed at her from the other Biqaj sailors aboard. Their scrutinizing gazes chased her off the ship a number of times with the excuse of feeling 'ill'.
However, one day changed everything and sparked within her a fire that could not be quenched. She'd pummeled the face of a fellow sailor into the deck after cutting words were too much to hear and, with a very heartfelt speech of her existence, Freya was escorted off the ship. Thankfully, Kian hadn't been around that day, but it only built within her a strength that grew larger from that moment on.
It was later when she realized Kian's mother, Ezra, drowned. As much as she tried to help him, Freya could do nothing but hold him. She began to see less and less of Kian, getting updates that he was sailing once again while she tended to boat building at one of the local shops. The Nal'raki clan refused to have her on another vessel till they could trust her composure was true. Every so often, however, she would sneak aboard Kian's ship to sail with him when they could. Just as it helped him, it helped her feel at peace.
It occurred to Freya one day that Kian had been gone for seasons. He and his ship had been captured by the ocean, she last heard, and taken to places far from Ne'haer. She prayed to U'Frek for his safety and well being while she herself took up odd jobs to pay for her expenses. The Nal'raki Clan was growing tired of her and soon enough, Freya feared they would disown her.
Such was not of the Biqaj way, though some clans kept more strictly to their personal traditions than others and the young girl knew it was only a matter of time before the Clan threw her out on her own. Though this realization drew fear within her, Freya had built an ambition of her own, one that brought with it utter determination to succeeded and she could only thank Kian for that, wherever he was. She took out a loan to buy herself her own ship and put on it all her little knickknacks and trinkets that she collected over the arcs and though the boat was tiny, she built a home out of it.
She would go sailing, keeping to the coast and watching the stars, guiding herself to secret places filled with such beauty, she never wanted to leave. Freya would never sail too far from Ne'haer as the protection of the city kept pirates and other smugglers at bay. From time to time, she would hear of Kian returning from his journeys just to leave again. Each time Freya tried to find him but was helpless to spot him in the crowds. She's moved from the places they would frequent together and is attempting to sell the last of her furniture and apartment so that she can buy a bigger boat/thus a bigger home.
