[Settlement] Sweetsong

Sweetsong
Image

On the eastern shoreline of Scalvoris is the area of Sweetwine WoodsImage known as Fool's Errand . In that area is the base camp for Sweetsong, a settlement created by Vega Creede in order to bring together people who want to live a lifestyle which is free from the confines of buildings and jobs and the conventions of town and village and city life. Sweetsong is a settlement of tents and brightly coloured vardos, there are boats anchored just off shore and the people here are a community who live together, hunt together, cook together and who live the life they choose.

Although their base camp is in Fool's Errand, Sweetsong is made up of individuals who are very much their own person and they move around Sweetwine in small and larger groups, depending on their whims. However, since they have all committed to the settlement, they work together and don't leave without discussion or planning.

In one of the large mushroom rings sits the main camp fire - it is carefully tended and people eat around it. It is where many discussions are held, of course, but at night what can often be heard from there is the sound of Vega playing a fiddle and the voices of the settlers all singing along.

Image
During the day the place can be seen for what it is; many groups of tents and vardos, small family units and larger ones all together in one settlement. No two tents or vehicles are alike and there is a massive array of colours on show. Settlers go about their day and any visitors to Sweetsong are spotted - at the latest - as soon as they step out of the thick treeline and will be greeted with a cheery call.

      Mount: Air 51 Expert
      Combat: Ranged (Blowgun) 51 Expert
      Endurance 16 Novice

Appearance/Biometrics: 8" tall, slender with dark, olive-colored bark, pink hair, flowers in her head branches, and pink eyes. She has two 'horns' that stick out from either temple, and a mane of pink lichen that fall from her head in tresses and vines. She prefers fancy clothing, but is just as comfortable without it. Her favorite flowers to wear in her hair are usually found to be of pink or purple hues.

Backstory: She was born in the forests of Rharnean territory, and raised among the tunawa there. She was pampered from a young age by her parents, and learned good manners among big folk as they had to deal with them fairly often. Unfortunately, she was taken as a slave sometime in 712, and was trained to do all manner of tasks for her master who was a sorcerer of sorts, an alchemist and ensorceller, who took her to Scalvoris. There, she lived for a time until the slaves were freed. From there, she wandered the island for a time, doing odd tasks here or there to get by. Eventually she gets captured by a evil alchemist who entraps the rest of her group of tunawa that she's traveling with, in order to use them in his experiments.

      In-Game History Thus Far:

Have Fun Storming the Castle ~ Kisaik rescues Aida and Ce'nija from an evil alchemist. I think this should suffice for their appearance.
Wood You Raft with Me? ~ Aida and Ce'nija help Kisaik to put together a raft. Ce'nija makes a more significant showing than Aida, but if it's not enough for Aida, then I got nothing for her.

      Sculpting 1 Novice
      Appearance/Biometrics:

Personality: Attention-seeking and outrageously flirty, Àìdá'tuli takes great pleasure and fulfillment in plucking the flowers of many a young male tunawa. Known as a bit of a fertility idol in her native Rharne, she's mothered at least a dozen sprouts by about as many males in her years. A very coquetish and beautiful tunawa, she uses her natural allure of her great mane of flowery hair to entice males to plant their sprout. Thus far, few tunawa have been able to resist her charm.

Backstory: The mother of at least a dozen sprouts in her former tribe in Rharnea, Àìdá'tuli has lived a storied life of tempestuous tunawa romance. She seems to have a story for every blossom in her hair, and oftentimes names each of them after the sprouts she's mothered.

She was recently captured, along with Ceh'nija by an evil alchemist bent on understanding Tunawa physiology and all their alchemical potential.

Relationship to PC: co-tender of the Sweetstone Tree and member of Kisiak's tribe. She's a dedicated NPC of Sweetsong Settlement, available as an NPC to any visitors or residents. (Approved conversion)

He is a friendly, if rather quiet, man who obviously adores his wife. In truth, he probably feels more comfortable around animals than most people and he will tend to be rather isolated, given a choice. He is rather shy and does not easily make friends - he has become used to his own company, but he is a friendly and hopeful soul who is looking forward to some company.

Details:Starr has spent her life not fitting in. As a mixed-race biqaj she was never entirely accepted into her biqaj family. In line with biqaj traditions, when she was 21, she left her clan and made her own way in the world. She has travelled from place to place, living on her wits and making her own way. She doesn't like to travel by sea , much preferring to live on the land. Starr is a pragmatic woman who has no interest in etiquette or social graces; she says things as she sees them, and doesn't much care who she offends on the way. Quick to temper, she often finds herself in arguments and she finds it hard to back down once she has begun. Fundamentally, what Starr really wants is somewhere where she fits in, where she belongs. However, in many ways, she is her own worst enemy when it comes to achieving that.

Details: Tovan is a boat maker and a self-proclaimed bard. He loves to sing and to play the drums, usually a single drum or a pair of bongos which he holds between his knees. He is a lover of life and he enjoys working with his hands. He can be judgemental of others and is quick to criticise, but equally he is a firm and loyal friend. If asked about his past, he does not answer anything except to say that his past is as weathered as his face and as calloused as his hands. He is quick to offer help, but limited in patience if he feels that others aren't helping themselves first. He's demanding and can be quite abrasive, but he has a good heart and wants to live in peace and in harmony with the land.

        Appraisal - Master - 76
        Jewelry Crafting - Master - 76
        Sculpting - Master - 76
        Glassblowing - Master - 76
        Leather working - Master - 76
        Pottery - Master - 76

Vorta was, once, once of the most sought- after artisans in Rynmere. She commanded an inordinately high price and she created items of beauty for the nobility and noble families. However, she witnessed the horrors of Rynmere, she saw the mage burnings and she barely escaped with her life as the plague hit.

Everyone she cared for or loved died in that plague and Vorta left Rynmere in the hope of finding somewhere else. However, she never settled and she spent her days travelling from place to place. She made her living by creating pieces of art as and when she needed to but she grew more and more dissatisfied with every society she visited.

Eventually, she heard of Sweetsong and the people there. She knew of Vega, the Champion of XIur, of Sir Chip the brave Tunawa knight and, the closer she got the more she heard; she learned of WInston the chef and Jasper the Aesir. The more she learned, the more she liked what heard and then she heard of what had happened there in the Pirate Lord attacks.

She knew then that this was a place where she could be and grow and settle down and where she would be kept safe.

And so, she set out for Sweetsong.

)
  • irritatin' an' Chipper: Tasks will either be complete in half the time or one quality level above what they otherwise would be.
  • Bamboo: Camp inhabitants are protected from the weather, and camp can be set up in half the time.
  • Flag of Flibberty: The ability is able to affect an area roughly a mile from the flag itself. It creates a sense of community cohesion and a feeling of determination and hopefulness. It does more than negate fear, it promotes positivity and gives people a deepened sense of "clan" identity.

The impact on those in the area is that they have a shared sense of identity, of community, and they work together better. There is less conflict, more co-operation and people are, basically, happier, more hopeful and getting on better. This translates to a drive to get on and work and impacts PCs and NPCs thus:

NPCs: Learn and develop skills more quickly. In the case of personal NPCs, once they have met the criteria for skill improvement, rather than 10 points per season, they gain 15. City NPCs who are used in the same way (2 x threads per season) may also be improved in this way, with moderator approval.

PCs: PCs who are working towards the goal of the clan are given more support, more help. Things happen quicker and more efficiently for that reason. PCs who are actively using skills which benefit the "clan" and are doing so with NPCs / PCs of the "clan" - may assume that the task is less difficult and by everything going smoothly and people helping, everything falls together more easily. This allows the task to be easier / a stroke of luck /teamwork to mean that the task is completed in 50% of the time OR to 2 levels higher a standard than they could otherwise achieve.
  • Dweebs Stupid Moments III- Pumpernickels: Friendships and a sense of community develop more quickly among the people of Sweetsong. People are more willing to work together, even new arrivals.
  • Leadin' by Example: If Vega is directing a task, she can either complete in less time or with less people.
  • Maximizing Context: Vega has an innate understanding of the terrain around Sweetsong. In the event of a hunt or battle, she automatically gains a terrain advantage unless facing troops or individuals trained in the Sweetwine Woods. She also has knowledge of where the best place to set traps is.
  • Quality Prey and Maximum Resource: Resources gained from hunting are automatically doubled and are of the highest quality. In the event that such resources are directly sold, they can be sold at the Tier-10 price. Vega has to involved with the hunt for this to take effect.
  • When in doubt, shout: Halves the time it takes to complete tasks that Vega is involved in. Can stack with other effects, depending on how Vega performs the task.
  • Sustainable Camp: Sweetsong Wood works in such a way that it is able to maintain excellent levels of animals / prey for hunting all year round. Animals are hunted carefully and while the settlement always has a strong supply, it never threatens the population level of the animals.
  • Enhanced Growth I: The Ojogbon tree merged with the Diri of growth - plants will grow much more easily in Sweetsong and at a much faster rate. This will mean that, as long as the settlement has appropriate crops and gardens, they'll be able to produce excellent harvests and easily grow an abundance of food. It's a passive ability to allow plants to grow even in unfavorable conditions wherever they're planted, when planted within the orbit of the tree.
  • Enhanced Growth II: The oasis enhanced growth of plant life - Sweetsong has a lot of enhancements to growth and will get an excellent harvest of any and all farmed or grown produce.
  • Pilgrim Hobby: After a certain ferret's efforts to impress the fairies, no fairies actually move into Sweetsong, but around the outskirts of the settlement, a certain unique fairy wanders all around. If anyone - without intent to harm - wishes to visit Sweetsong, he will eagerly point the way for them, using such pithy fairy exclamations as Rabbledonks! and calling those who look for the way to Sweetsong 'Pilgrim'. The fairy's name is Hobby, his wings seem made of burlap sack cloth, and he holds a tiny bindle-stick. Mechanically this makes it less likely for one to lose their way around Sweetsong long as they're seeking Sweetsong within the Sweetwine Woods.
  • Vindecaldra's Foundry: Vega can produce any metal within her wealth tier, up to uncommon metals. Rare metals need to be discovered in a thread before they can be considered a resource.
  • Community Response to Danger: When faced with difficult or dangerous situations, the people of Sweetsong have grown used to working together and helping each other. As a result, uprooting and reforming to face most challenges become a logistically simpler as everyone works seamlessly toward the common goals.

Systematically this manifests in the following:
    • 10% Protected population ~ During general disasters and strife, the settlement tackles situations with high efficiency and an eye towards the 'common good'. This means that, even without direct intervention by others, up to 15% of settler population is protected from critical harm, and anything that doesn't rise above that threshold doesn't permanently affect it.

Note: This percentage can be increased as further measures are developed to tackle adversity.
    • Logistics +1 Competence when working as a group ~ Large sweeping changes, whether drawn out or unexpected, can be instituted as if the Logistics required to do so was a level lower.
  • Feelin' Fine! There's something about being around Vega that means that those who are in close proximity to her just feel less tired, or a bit less injured. As a result, while Vega is in residence, she finds, for better or worse, that she is rarely ever alone or unable to call on a person for assistance as a reflex as people simply want to be close. Also minor sickness and injuries suffered by settlers heal more quickly with or without medical intervention as a result of her presence at the nightly feasts.
  • here Stretching the larder: Winston's input into cooking means that Sweetsong is able to feed it's people while using a lot less produce. This means that, each cycle where Winston is present, Sweetsong will build up a store of products which they can dry etc and which can be prepared for cold or austere times.
  • here Fairy friends: While Winston is in residence, there are a lot of Fairies in Sweetsong. This means that they get to interact with the residents and might decide to move in permanently. But beware - Fairies are fickle and mischievous creatures - they can cause a lot of mishaps too!
  • here The Loshova brings new life wherever they go. In the cities and towns in which they stay longer than a season, the crops will grow at an unprecedented rate. Life explodes around the Ashan Blessed, following them even into the cold of Cylus. Places they have dwelt longer than a few trials begin to show signs of their passage. Flowers, shoots, vines, and roots grow exponentially in the area closest to where they rest. While this power is muted in the colder months, it is far from absent. Even Tunawa can benefit from this aura, healing their bodies much swifter when in the presence of a Loshova.
  • here While Kisaik is in residence, any settler in Sweetsong can consider it a trivial thing to gain a complete analysis of any Flora found around Sweetsong. This does require the Player or NPC to conceivably be able to visit Kisaik in the timeline require to get this analysis, i.e. it does not allow Characters to simply instantly identify plats while wondering around the wilderness.
  • here Halcyon Days - While some may rely on wealth or material success in order to mitigate life's misfortunes and sustain their livelihoods, the Daianya brims with optimism that effuses and spreads to their companions, uplifting them even in the midst of one would consider abject poverty. The world regularly seems to drop good fortune and success into their lap. Not only will they enjoy better fortune in their general endeavors, but they will also spread prosperity to all of their neighbors as well. Neighborhoods, where the Daianya resides for more than a season will begin to enjoy a general upgrade in the standards of living, so long as those neighbors have lived there for at least a season as well. Drifters and visitors are not so affected.

They will not need to work as hard or as long in order to achieve a successful result. They will find things are easier in general, lowering the difficulty of tasks by a full skill level. In order to benefit from this effect, one must own residence within the neighborhood and reside there for a full season before the Halcyon Days take effect, or else contribute positively to society in some way.

Criminals and those detracting from the prosperity of a neighborhood are not affected by this skill. At adored this ability affects those who contribute positively toward a society in the neighborhood or town where the Daianya generally resides. At Exalted, it extends to an entire city. At Champion, it extends to an entire region.
  • What Would Vega Do? Should a PC or NPC be working under Vega's leadership the benefits from any bonuses from her Leadership skill (Capstones and future Leadership Tier 2 stuff) still happen as though she was there, even if she isn't. PCs (and NPCs) can choose to accept this - and in order for it to work they will need to consider / think about how Vega would deal with the situation / what she would say if she was there. It needs to be either a task Vega has specifically given or a situation where they are operating under her leadership anyhow (so, the people in Sweetsong would - when she was in Storm's Edge, the people there would have, too).

That means that all NPCs who choose to (and, of course all PCs) have access to:
    Irritatin' an' Chipper
    Irritatin' an' Chipper
Vega is aggressively optimistic. Her time in Rharne during the Siege of Storm's Edge taught her that, no matter what, she had to keep up her own sense of optimism. This has allowed her to lead others by example, but specifically by making people happy in whatever task she is leading them in. If Vega is part of a group working to a common goal, then her enthusiasm and optimism mean that people are able to keep going just that bit longer, or perform just that bit better. This has an impact on the outcome of a task - when working together on a task which has a physical product (like rebuilding the walls in Storms Edge) then that outcome will be better than it would otherwise be, while the outcome of more abstract tasks (like exploring) will simply be more efficient.

Mechanically, this means that a physical outcome (like rebuilding the walls) will result in the job will either be finished in half the time, or at one quality level above what would be expected (eg: average will become good. If these criteria aren't in place, it'll need to be story-specific but will follow this format). Which of these outcomes it is will be dependent on whether Vega's pushing people to hurry, or to do their best. For more abstract tasks (eg: exploring) the task will simply be performed to the best capability in half the time.

    Approved: here
    Leadin' by example
During the Siege of Storm's Edge, Vega found herself in a number of positions where she had to make snap decisions and act on them. There were things which needed doing, jobs which had to be done. She has learned that one way to get things done is by the simple expedient of starting them. Rather than tell people what to do, Vega is very much an "in there and doing it" kind of leader. That means that, when she's working in a team - whether she's in an active leadership role or not - her very nature of leading by example, of getting right in there and getting her hands dirty makes people more inclined to do the same. This specifically means that teams work better when Vega is in them. Whether she's crew on a ship or a member of a military unit, they work smarter and harder and get things done. The outcome of this is that the group functions at peak efficiency - resources are used the best they can be, communication is at its best. The longer Vega is part of this team, the more they work like a well-oiled machine and the more efficient they become.

After working in a team once, this capstone starts to take effect. Thereafter, the multitude of tasks which need doing in any group situation get done more quickly and to a higher standard. Mechanically it means that they need less people to do a job than they might otherwise, freeing people up to do other tasks. If building a wall would take five people five days - if Vega is in the team then it'll take less people (maybe 3) to build it in 5 days. All five people would build it in 3 days.

    Approved: here
    When in doubt, shout

During her time at Storm's Edge, Vega gave help to anyone she could. The upshot of this is that she learned the importance of asking for - and giving - help. When she is part of a group, Vega's way of being in the group makes it more and more acceptable to ask for help. After working together once, this capstone will begin to take affect - and the more she works with people, the more comfortable they are with asking for, receiving, or offering, help. This means that they work together better, of course, but this capstone is about increasing efficiency. Mechanically it means that, after she's been part of a group and been bossing people about for that time (eg: The Lightning Knights of Storms Edge) for a full season, tasks will be performed at full efficiency in half the time in any task Vega is involved in. If this is combined with another capstone, the quickest it can be is one quarter of the time.

  • Arboreal Wizardry: The Giving Tree: As long as Kisaik is in residence, when growing or planting a single tree, Sweetsong can count on that one tree as a primary resource for its wood and other resources available from it, for small singular projects (that require less than an entire tree's worth of wood), so long as it's given a season or two to grow from the time it was planted. I.e. Settlers can use these Primary Resources for small projects that would not require an entire tree (or more) to complete. If a project required more than an entire tree, then of course this would still destroy the tree or not be possible. here

What Does It Mean For Me?

We're really lucky, we have a lot of PCs and a lot of effects going on in Sweetsong. This can be overwhelming, there's so much to read. So, here's a (hopefully) handy list of things that might help you!
Tasks
  • irritatin' an' Chipper: Tasks will either be complete in half the time or one quality level above what they otherwise would be.
  • Flag of Flibberty : PCs who are working towards the goal of the clan are given more support, more help. (note this appears in PC Buffs also)
  • Leadin' by Example: If Vega is directing a task, she can either complete in less time or with less people.

Also minor sickness and injuries suffered by settlers heal more quickly with or without medical intervention as a result of her presence at the nightly feasts. (also in community)
Camp
  • Bamboo: Camp inhabitants are protected from the weather, and camp can be set up in half the time.
(also in community and PC Buffs)
(also in Community)
Community
  • Flag of Flibberty: The ability is able to affect an area roughly a mile from the flag itself. It creates a sense of community cohesion and a feeling of determination and hopefulness. It does more than negate fear, it promotes positivity and gives people a deepened sense of "clan" identity. The impact on those in the area is that they have a shared sense of identity, of community, and they work together better. There is less conflict, more co-operation and people are, basically, happier, more hopeful and getting on better.
  • Dweebs Stupid Moments III- Pumpernickels: Friendships and a sense of community develop more quickly among the people of Sweetsong. People are more willing to work together, even new arrivals.
NPC Buffs
  • Flag of Flibberty: NPCs: Learn and develop skills more quickly. In the case of personal NPCs, once they have met the criteria for skill improvement, rather than 10 points per season, they gain 15. City NPCs who are used in the same way (2 x threads per season) may also be improved in this way, with moderator approval.
PC Buffs
  • Flag of Flibberty: PCs who are working towards the goal of the clan are given more support, more help. (note this appears in "Tasks" also)

Also!
