New Money System
So - this is as far as we've got on staff. We've voted to run with this as a system - there are still decisions to be made and processes to iron out. So we're opening it up to a working group of staff and players to make it workable as a system - this will allow us to all see it clearly, ask questions and deal with any issues before we roll out the system.
To be clear about that - this is where we are with it right now. Details might still change as people ask questions and get answers - as we come across things. This is a WIP and we're trying to make it so that it's a collaborative WIP between staff and players. Therefore, please use the OOC, please ask questions etc. We want this to work and to move forward.
Proposal:
We scrap money per say. Go to "Wealth Tiers"
- Absolute Poverty (0 - 5)
- Destitute (6 -14)
- Poor (15 - 30)
- Struggling (31 -50)
- Average (51 - 75)
- Comfortable (76 - 100)
- Wealthy (101 - 120)
- Very Wealthy (121 -150)
- Rich (151 -200)
- Filthy Rich (201+)
- All pcs start at the same Wealth Tier, unless specifically mentioned in the Starter Pack (wilderness PCs, Noble PCs are examples here). They are awarded X number of "Wealth Points" on character creation. Like the Renown system we give people a drop down menu in their profile
To DoAmend all starter packs. Amend Character creation guidelines & template. Add Profile Field for Wealth Points
- Each Wealth Tier is separated by “Wealth Points” (in brackets after Wealth Tier name)- and each Wealth Tier clearly identified. SO we have a list of what sort of lifestyle each Wealth Tier is.
To Do Write up each Wealth Tier This is now done. First draft here Correct 16th October.
- The Price List - each item is placed at a “Wealth Tier” - that is the tier at which you can easily afford this item on a day-to-day basis for yourself. You CAN buy items at above your Wealth Tier, but they cos you Wealth Points.
The way this works is that you can buy something at 1 Tier above your own for 1 Wealth Point. Something 2 Tiers above your wealth is 10 Wealth Points. These numbers get doubled every time you buy something above your Tier per cycle. So do it once, it's 1 or 10. Second time its 2 or 20)
To Do Assign Wealth Tiers to all Price List items. Amend any price lists on boards
- We do away with “Job Threads” per se. We have, instead an identified “Wealth Skill” - that skill is identified by the PC. The skill level determines the highest Wealth tier they can attain. It’s the skill they use to make their living with. This can, of course, be changed from one season to another by the PC so long as it’s clearly marked on their CS.
To Do Write up "Wealth Threads" and change "job thread" to "wealth thread" in wiki and on boards. Amend Job & Wage request threads.
- In order to MAINTAIN their wealth tier - they have to do one “Wealth Thread” per season. It can be a job, it can be an adventure. It can be a talent contest, a private commission. Whatever. What it must be is using their wealth skill for that season in a way that would bring them in money. For PCs not interested in progressing, that’s it. End of.
- ONLY once they have done that wealth thread (no PH’d threads here, cos the notion of a job thread just got SO much broader) - other threads MIGHT award them Wealth Points. So, if you’ve done your Wealth Thread for the season, and you go raid a caravan, or go on an adventure, or find some treasure - then you ask for a Wealth Point in your review. Reviewer awards it if it would be a significant impact to the the players Wealth. Additional Wealth Points can be awarded from using any skill - Wealth Skill only applies for Seasonal Wealth Thread (and cap on Wealth Tier). So a Baker bakes to keep their wealth level, but when they go on an adventure and get rewarded for being a sword-swinging lunatic, they still gain the Wealth Points.
To Do Amend reviews.
- Reach a new Wealth Tier? Post in the city, city mod approves.
Previously, NPCs cost 10gn per season. As part of this change, NPCs will be dealt with differently. PCs are now able to have:
Flavour NPCs. These are NPCs with no more than 30XP spread across at least 2 skills. These are free and each pc can have up to 2 per season of play.
Skilled NPCs: These are the 100 points, no more than 30 in one skill etc that we're used to. We didn't limit them before and 10gn was such a nominal amount. Maintain them being unlimited.
Point Bank NPCs: As they currently are. Better skilled
What about Slaves?
NPC slaves are always counted as Skilled NPCs. However, to allow a more realistic game play experience, the cost of NPC slaves has been linked to the Wealth Tiers - and therefore, a Rich PC can have a more skilled slave NPC for 1 Wealth Point.
The limits on Wealth Tiers also apply to PC slaves and so, the more skilled a pc is, the more expensive they beome. This relates to who can purchase them.
What about Businesses?
Owning a business is something we very much encourage. Running your business can count as your "Wealth Thread" the same as doing a job for a "Wealth Thread". However, to indicate that the business is yours - every PC who buys things from your business, earns you a Wealth Point. That DOESN’T happen if you work in someone else’s business - the extra money goes to the owner.
Starting a Business Starting a business will cost Wealth Points. How many Wealth Points will be determined by the City Mod who approves it.
What about Factions?
The faction has it’s own wealth tier, which just links directly with the faction renown stuff already in place.
Banks & Debt
Starter Debt: This is dealt with by the pc being told that they have 10 (for example) Wealth Points worth of debt at startup that they must pay back by such and such a date.
In Character Debt: Costs Wealth Points. If you are in debt, you are in debt to the tune of 5 Wealth Points
Banks: Work exactly the same as they do currently. Except you "pay in" Wealth Points - and for every 10 (lets say) in there - you gain a new one per season. But while the Wealth Points are IN the bank, your PC can not count them in their Wealth - they are not disposable income.
Qualifications
Gaining Qualifications costs money. So, each level of qualification costs a certain number of wealth points.
Having Qualifications gives you money - so the early quals (Letter, Certificate) give you a lump sum of say 5, 10 Wealth Points. Once you get to Diploma you get the 10 on qualification and 1 Wealth Point per season.
But What About My 5K Bonus For Being in a Job For A Year!?
You still get it. Use the same skill for your Wealth Thread for a year - and get a 10 Wealth Point Bonus. Following year, 15, year after 20. etc.
Grandfathering This in!?
This will be a fairly straightforward thing to do.
There's a chart!
We'll make a single thread where people stick it up for approval - WITH their working out and links. We check and approve, add to PNs. Bosh.
