49th Trial of Zi'da during Arc 716
The woman in the dress shop had told her about this place and Vega had followed her directions and then got here. This was ridiculous. This was Arlo she was fretting about. But it wasn't that, it was Arlo and her going On A Date. More than that, they were going on a date Somewhere Fancy and Vega was about as prepared for that as she was suited to giving elocution lessons. This whole thing was completely out of her area of experience, totally and completely new territory and she really didn't want to embarrass him in this posh place. The restaurant he'd said about was owned by a woman he knew, so there was that, Vega didn't care at all what people thought of her and she'd stomp in there in boots and with her sword on hip without a second thought, she really didn't want to shame him.
And besides, if she was honest, she'd never been on an actual date before, much less to somewhere fancy and the thought of it was quite delightful to her. Not that she'd tell him that, not any trial of the season. But, she'd told him that since they were going on this date soon, she had shopping to do and he could go make himself useful elsewhere, thank you muchly. Then, she'd gone to the dress shop and they'd asked her questions about necklines and hems, lengths of sleeves and what colour madame particularly liked. It had taken Vega ten bits to work out that "madame" was her.
So, here she was. Peytr's Pots and Potions. The man behind the counter looked like a weasel, but he smiled in a friendly manner and before he got the chance to say anything, the nervous young mixed blood woman spoke. "Wotcha. I've got a date an' no clue, an' I've never worn make up or anythin' an' the lady in the dress shop said I should come 'ere an' speak to Callie."
"I'd say she was right," came a voice, a distinctly female one and Vega turned to look as the petite blonde woman stepped out of the back room. "I'm Callie, and I can help. Come on in." She was warm and welcoming but not overpowering and Vega shot Peytr a grin as she followed his wife into the back room where Callie held consultations. Callie gestured to a seat and Vega sat. "Tell me the whole story," Callie said and Vega breathed in.
"I've got a date. With my boyfriend, we're livin' together, but neither of us 'ave ever been on a date before. An' we're gonna do it right, go somewhere fancy, sleep in an Inn, eat at Cally's, cos he says it's great there." Callie nodded and looked at Vega for a moment. "What are you worried about?" Vega shrugged, slightly and then tried to explain.
"We live in the wilderness, you know? We're travellers, an' I love it. I love our life. But if we're gonna do a fancy date, then I wanna do it right an' I want 'im to go bug-eyed when he sees me." Callie gave a very genuine smile. "I'd say that's easy enough. So, I can help you pick out a dress, help you with your hair and make up, accessories too. My services cost 1gn per break and if you buy cosmetics or products, I ask that you buy them here." Vega nodded her head, that was fine, and more than fair.
"So, where do we start?" Vega asked and Callie gave a smile. "At the dress shop. Come on, we'll have fun." Vega glanced at the woman and shook her head.
"'onestly, love, I 'ighly doubt it."
