This location is completed for now. I had a few NPC ideas but I decided to give them more time and perhaps add them later.

The Mix

The fluid biological and chemical waste from the experimentations in Rhakros must go somewhere. Those who aren't so concerned with the effects on the environment tend to deal with waste the quick, cheap and easy way. They just pour it out, mostly in the chemical dump people call the "The Mix".

There's a stream coming from an underground source in central Rhakros. The chemical waste is dumped through a shaft, and the stream carries it away to a cave system in the outskirts of the city where it comes up to the surface and ends in a pool of "water".

Among other things, The Mix is the habitat of The Silver Green Rhakrotian Rats, a race of mutant rats. The folklore has it rats living in the caves drank the polluted water, and though many of them died, the more hardy ones survived and bred and eventually the silvergreen rats emerged. There's always quite many of them around and the cave system at The Mix is sometimes referred to as "The Silvers ".

Silver Green Rhakrotian Mutant Rat

Lifespan and Development: Remains to be seen.

Diet: Most anything!

Temperament: The temperament of the mutant rats is quite aggressive, but if they are left to their own devices they are mostly harmless.

Abilities: The Silver Green Rhakrotian Mutant Rat is the result of a major experimentation rat escape some thirty years ago, when most of the furry subjecs of a posion lab found their way to freedom. As they were used to eating the leftovers of humans, they stayed in the city where their food was, and settled in the typical places where rats will settle in a city. They populated the sewers, the dumps and the backstreets and yards behind taverns. They bred at the normal high speed of rats, and soon the mutations spread and started to manifest

The Silver Green Rhakrotian Mutant Rat is like the name says, gifted with a fur of an unusual silver green color. It's bigger than it's ancestor the common brown rat, and some worry that the size of the mutant rats will continue to increase in size. Due to their immunity to poison and the fairly high intelligence of the animals, they have superior survival abilities. It has started to seem like the mutant rats can live longer than normal rats. Their numbers are growing.

They tend to only attack people who have food in their pockets or bags, and rob them. The rats are intelligent animals, and rumor has it they can somehow communicate with each other, hatch plans and act in concert. When these rats are set on a goal, they can be amazingly stubborn and innovative. They are susceptible to edible treats and to music, in particular flute music, so it's possible to divert them. For a skilled musician it can also be possible to train them to dance and perform tricks.

Those who keep the silver green mutant rats as pets strongly dislike that rat hunter has become a profession in Rhakros. Silver green rat fur is increasingly used as decorations on clothes and items, and rumor has it some taverns aren't above using rat meat in their cooking. There's merchants who have started to speak about export of silver green furriery, but attempts to start rat farms and breed rats for fur has been sabotaged by unknown activists.

They are a problem to some, an asset to others, and the perfect species for carrying plagues around the world in Lisirra's opinion. Meanwhile, The Silver Green Rhakrotian Mutant Rats carry on happily with their rat lives, focused on their own ends.

Details: Barlow Baynard is a grizzled old man, with wiry and wild hair that grows outward more than it grows down. He was a tall man once, but the arcs have bent him so that his shoulders bow down and his back curls against his will. He has a quiet, humble disposition and despite his noxious craft, he carries a gentleness to his demeanor. He is a sharp-witted businessman and has a knack for staying indifferent to most trivial pursuits.
