Appearance
Her appearance is as even mix of both of her parents. From her father, she inherited her fair skin, pointed face, and the shape of her facial features. But her lovely blue grey eyes, and unusual hair come from her mother. Seira's waist long, wavy hair is a light, ash brown. But when the light hits it the right way, it takes on a warmer, golden tone.
Seira is a pretty girl. And she shows signs of becoming a true beauty when she gets older. But a hard life has left its mark on her. She has a waif like, scrawny build caused by years of not getting quite enough food. A network of light scars covers her back and shoulders, left over from a harsh punishment when she was a child.
Once she was adopted by Vivian Warrick (now Vivian Shiryu), she had access to healthy food every trial. A few arcs of this has helped her to fill out so she no longer looks like a half starved waif anymore. But arcs of malnutrition took their toll, and at 4'1", she still looks much younger than she really is.
Seira never puts much thought into the way she looks. She has far more important things to worry about. But at the same time, her livelyhood depends on her looking cute nearly as much as it does on her abilities. So she is careful to keep herself clean, and mostly neat. Her hair is worn loose, in a ponytail, or in a braid. Simple styles that are easy to maintain, and require little time and effort on her part. But her hair is usually clean, and never matted.
She prefers dark, loose fitting clothes. Nothing that will hinder her movement, or snag on something if she has to move in a hurry. She hates to be noticed when she isn't working, so she avoids bright colors, or anything that is likely to stand out too much.
Personality
Seira is a wary child. She observes everything around her with a cautious eye, acting only when she feels it safe to do so. She doesn't trust easily, and she has good reason for being so wary. From the time she was very young, she learned that the adults in her life could not be trusted, or relied on. If it weren't for her sister, it is very likely that she never would have learned to trust at all. She tends to be shy, and quiet. Although she will talk to others when she has something to say (like when she is discussing a book she read for class), she rarely reveals personal information, or lets people get too close. She really only opens up around her twin sister.
Seira is very smart. She learns quickly, and studying comes easily to her. She loves to learn. Partly for the love of learning, but partly because knowledge is power, and there's no telling when something she learns will be useful. Seira also enjoys sharing what she has learned. Teachers love her because she can often be found tutoring students who are struggling.
When she isn't at school, she is either spending time with her twin, or out working. It is rare to see her playing around as most children her age do. Seira's life is a hard one, and if she were to act like a normal child her age, it is likely that she wouldn't survive. But she is stubborn, and determined on top of being wary. While she can't hide the fact that she is struggling at times, her sister is the only one who knows that the two of them are on their own.
Since she hates to be noticed when she isn't working, Seira wears clothes that will allow her to blend in. Plain, simple, if decent quality clothes that fit her well, and do not have too many worn areas, or tears. She prefers neutral colors such as black, browns, white, greys, and creams, or dark blues, greens, and purples. In the summer, she prefers lighter shades. Nothing too bright that will make her stand out.
Seira is fiercely protective of the people and things she cares about. Someone who takes something she sees as hers, or hurts one of the few people she loves will never be forgiven. Seira will find a way to make them regret it. She is also protective of those who are younger and weaker than she is. But if someone hurts her, she is likely to withdraw, and retreat into herself.
She has a stubborn streak a mile wide when it comes to fighting for what she believes in. Although she is normally quite shy, and prefers to stay in the background, she has very firm beliefs in some things. And if she sees, or hears of something that goes against those beliefs, she will fight to defend them with everything she has.
If asked what she likes best about herself, Seira would always choose her voice. Whether she is speaking, or singing, she has a very pretty voice. She loves to sing, and tell stories. It started when she was a very young child trying to entertain herself and her sister when there was nothing else to do. And she never grew out of it.
As children, Seira and her sister were on their own much of the time. With a father who was too busy to raise them, and a mother who wanted nothing to do with them when she wasn't venting her anger and frustration out on them, they had little guidance outside the school. Although they lived in a huge house, surrounded by luxury, they had very little to call their own. With few toys, and few friends, it was up to them to entertain each other. They did so by telling each other stories, drawing things the other would request of them, acting out made up roles among themselves, teaching themselves how to play musical instruments, making up elaborate games of make believe among themselves, and singing.
Because they were on their own so much, Seira has developed a fierce independent streak. She is used to being responsible for herself, and deciding what to do, and when to do it for herself. She is also unused to asking for help when she needs it, or believing that she would get it even if she did ask. And she is too wary to trust most of the people around her enough to admit to the weakness of needing help with something, anyway. The one exception is her twin sister. Seira depends on Seri for all of her emotional support, and trusts her with everything. Even when she cannot trust herself. If she ever lost her sister, she would be truly alone.
As of Vhalar 720, Seira and Seri have finally overcome the arcs of malnutrition and not getting enough food that they suffered through as children. While they will never be as tall as they might have been, they have grown a few inches. Instead of 4'1", the twins are now 4'5".
History
Tyrnas Shiryu (Tyr)
Tyrnas is a warrior at heart. As a child, he practiced long and hard to hone the skills he'd need to become a warrior, and that's exactly what he did. He was a natural, and after a few arcs, he was well on his way to earning a good reputation for himself as a warrior. But a close call that took the life of the woman who was both his best friend, and his first wife, and nearly claimed his own life changed things. Although he recovered from his injuries without any lasting effects, his older brother convinced him to pursue safer work.
From then on, Tyrnas followed his brother's footsteps. Under his guidance, he learned the ways of a merchant, and opened up a weapons shop. He studied the ways of making weapons, and as a warrior himself, he knew exactly what a fighter wanted from his weapon. That gave him an edge, and he was soon making a good profit from selling his weapons. In addition to selling weapons of his own making, he sold good quality weapons made by weapon smiths who had not yet earned a name of their own in exchange for a commission. This gave him a wider variety of weapons to sell, and his reputation grew. In less than ten arcs, Tyrnas went from needing his brother's guidance to being well on his way to becoming a worthy rival.
After losing his first wife, Tyrnas didn't think that he would ever find love again. But he was proved wrong when his brother introduced him to a beautiful young woman at a party. Arienne couldn't have been less like his first wife if she had tried. But he fell head over heels in love with her anyway. They were married less than an arc later. Almost nine months to the day after they were married, Arienne bore him twin daughters.
Tyrnas loved his children dearly. But he didn't quite know what to do with a child. As the youngest child in his own family, he never had any experience with helping to care for younger siblings when he was growing up. He was also a very busy man. So much of the child raising was left to his wife.
In Ymiden of 713, Tyrnas decided to accompany a trade caravan heading to Fort Gawyne. It was filled with some of the very best weapons he had ever made, and rumors of bandit activity were such that he decided to go with the caravan as a guard to make certain that the trip would go smoothly. Despite being a wealthy merchant now, he had continued to practice the skills he'd used as a warrior, and if he went himself, he could be certain that security was up to his high demands. Unfortunately, the caravan never made it to its destination. It was attacked by bandits, and quickly overwhelmed. There were few survivors of the attack, and many of those succumbed to their injuries later. Tyrnas is believed to have died in the attack, but his body was never found.
Daenira Shiryu
Daenira Shiryu was Tyrnas's first wife. They were childhood friends, meeting when they were only three arcs old, and quickly becoming the best of friends. It was a friendship that turned into love as they grew older. And when Tyrnas was sixteen, he proposed to her. There was no doubt that she would accept, and they were married soon after he proposed.
Both of them were warriors at heart, and they worked together for the first arc of their marriage. That changed when they discovered that she was pregnant. She quit working, and devoted herself to her husband, and the child she was carrying. Daenira loved being a mother, and she was a good one to both of the sons that she gave Tyrnas. But she missed the life of a warrior. So when the boys were seven, she started working once more. Not wanting to leave the care of the children mostly to others, she only worked part time as a guard.
This worked well for her. She was able to continue honing her skills as a warrior while still raising her family. When Daenira was with her sons, she devoted herself fully to them. They never wanted for her attention. And with two good incomes coming in, they didn't want for anything else, either. That all changed when both she and her husband were called in for an important mission that fit perfectly with their skill sets. The mission ended in disaster. Bad communication, and bad information about the mission led them into a trap. One that claimed Daenira's life, and nearly that of her husband as well.
Arienne Shiryu
Arienne Shiryu was a beautiful child. Born into a wealthy merchant family, she was spoiled, given everything she wanted because her parents found it easier to bribe her into behaving rather than disciplining her. As she grew, Arienne went from being a spoiled child to being an ambitious woman who wanted more than mere wealth. She wanted entry into social circles that were denied to her out of an accident of birth. She found her chance by marrying a man whose older brother was an even wealthier merchant than her parents were. He catered to circles that didn't even know her family existed. And Arienne hoped that by being related to him through marriage to his brother, she would gain entry to those circles as well.
Arienne never liked children, nor did she ever want any of her own. But her husband did, so she did her duty as a proper wife, giving him two daughters. She treated her husband's sons well enough, even if she kept her distance from them emotionally. This was because her husband was very close to his younger son, and his brother, the man Arienne wanted so much to impress, had taken an interest in the older boy. But her own daughters were beneath their notice, and as such, fair game for her to unleash her frustrations and resentment out on. When she deigned to notice them at all, they often felt her frustration and wrath at not succeeding in her desire to better herself socially.
She died three seasons after her husband, when the family store was robbed. The group of bandits who robbed the shop were caught off guard by her arrival, and they killed her before escaping with their stolen bounty.
Kiran Shiryu
Kiran is all but a stranger to Seira. He was fifteen when Seira and her sister were born. As soon as he graduated from school at the age of fifteen, he joined the sky riders as an Airman. He threw everything he had into his work, and into honing his skills as much as he could. Bettering himself and doing the best that he could in his work was his only focus. He was a perfectionist who tolerated no slacking in himself, and little in others. The only thing preventing him from driving himself into the ground was his mentor.
His intensity and focus stemmed from the same source. His brother was not the man he had once believed him to be. Worse than that, his own flesh and blood was a bandit. His brother had to be brought to justice, and Kiran wants more than anything to be the person who brings him that justice. Only that might put an end to the feelings of betrayal buried deep within him, and give him some peace.
NPCs
Seriel Shiryu (Seri)
Seriel is everything to Seira. And the reverse is true, as well. The twins are best friends as well as sisters. Each is the only thing that the other truly has. Sister, friend, confidant, protector...and much, much more. They've been on their own for as long as they can remember. Even when their parents were around, they weren't. But Seira was never truly alone because Seriel was there for her. Likewise, Seira was always there for Seriel.
Seriel was the one who taught Seira how to care about others, and how to be there to support another person. Without her, Seira would be a very different person. She would never have learned how to love, or how to care about another person. From the time they came into the world until now, they have been inseparable. Neither knows how to exist without the other.
Date of Birth: 1st day of Ashan 703
Skills: Athletics (formerly Acrobatics) - 12; Novice, Cooking - 26; Competent, Medicine - 51; Expert, Musical Instrument; Percussion - 51; Expert, Musical Instrument; String (Bow) - 51; Expert, Teaching - 5; Novice, Woodworking - 10; Novice
Appearance: Seriel is 4'1", and has a scrawny, waif like build much like her sister. Her waist long, wavy hair is a lot like her sister's in length, and type. But where Seira's is a light, ash brown, hers is red. She has fair, unblemished skin that tans easily. Her large, doe like brown eyes would make her look younger than she truly is, but they are often filled with a hard, wary expression that makes her seem older instead. Seirel walks with a slight limp in her right leg, left over from an old injury. Although she can get by well enough, her leg aches sometimes when it is raining, or if it is especially cold. And if she strains her leg too much, it may give out on her.
Personality: Seirel is a study of conflicts. When she is with those she cares about, she is a kind, sweet girl. But when it comes to strangers, she is cold, hard, and very defensive. The two sides of her personality are so different, that it is almost as if she is two different people, depending on who she is with. She is fiercely protective of what is "hers," and she will never forgive those who hurt her loved ones. She has a fierce temper that she is quick to unleash when those she cares about are hurt. But it is very rare that that temper is ever seen by her loved ones.
Relationship to PC: twin sister
Anything: Seriel is the older of the twins. She prefers to be called Seri by those she cares about (and trusts fully). But those who have earned enough of her trust to breach the wall around her heart are few. If someone who hasn't earned the right to call her Seri does so, it angers her deeply. Calling her by her nickname is a form of intimacy in her eyes, and she feels violated if someone uses that name without her giving them permission to do so.

Xanthea
Seira picked up what she knows of Xanthea on her own. She learned some while doing errands around the city to earn money since she wasn't given an allowance. She learned more at school in exchange for tutoring some of her classmates in subjects they needed help with. And once she started performing at bard's corners, she learned more simply from listening to conversations around her, and picking up words and phrases when the meaning for what was being said was obvious.
Housing
Seira was turned out of the house she was born in when her father died. Neither of her older brothers stepped up to take over her care. So she and her sister have been on their own since they were ten years old. But that does not mean that they are homeless. Soon after they were turned out of their parents' home, Seira found a small, abandoned cottage. The family who once lived there had to move out in a hurry, so some of the furniture was left behind. The cottage itself is small, but it is in good repair. It isn't in the best part of the city, but it isn't located in the worst section, either. Since no one else has shown any interest in claiming the small cottage, the authorities don't mind that Seira and her sister have claimed it for themselves.
After being adopted by Vivian Shiryu (formerly Warrick) as kids, Seira and Seri moved to Rharne and they have lived with Vivian in the Glass Quarter ever since. And on the 1st of Ymiden 722, Seira and Seri moved into a house of their own. It is located in the Glass Quarter, next door to their mother. The write up for the house is here.
Prized Possession
Left on their own long before they were orphaned, if they wanted something, it was up to them to earn the money to pay for it. It took Seri years of doing odd jobs around the city to save up for the simple pendant. Seira knew how much effort it had cost her sister to save up for the beautiful gift. And she could see her sister's pride in her accomplishment as she gave it to her on her birthday. So while it is a beautiful pendant, Seira values it more because it was a gift from her sister than for its beauty.
Seira wears her pendant at all times, taking it off only when she sleeps, and bathes. Most of the time, it is tucked safely beneath her clothes so potential thieves won't be tempted to take it. But when she needs to look especially nice, or is troubled, and needs a reminder of her sister's love, she takes it out to look at it.
