Overview, links and information on Almund

Almund is a thriving township with a dark side. With houses made from the wooden bodies of decommissioned ships, there are many opportunities here, coupled with many dangers.

[Almund]: Area Overview & Link Map

Please Note: This is the overview and link map for this area of Scalvoris. For a full island link map please see this thread in the OOC forum. Thank you!
Almund has become a true cultural melting pot since Vhalar 716. Almost all races are represented here, although the greatest number of those encountered are Biqaj and Biqaj half-breeds, Almund is one of the few places in Idalos where one can almost count on running into Mer as well and where (almost) all are entirely welcome.

Almund has become the seat of the council for Scalvoris Island, where law enforcement, education and all civil and military decisions are made. There is an underside to it, also, in that Almund has a reputation for having previously been one of the most dangerous places in Idalos to live and some of the underground factions maintain that. There is danger here, no doubt, but at least these days one has to go looking for it, or be really in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The city has been built over time, as the buildings are the skeletons of old boats. Retired boats have been progressively stacked on one another, building up the city from sea-level up. Often plain and weather beaten on the outside, and even at first glance on the inside, a more careful look will reveal that even the most humble abodes tend to boast carvings and other woodworking that would cost hundreds of Nels anywhere else. Some of the most talented woodworkers on Idalos can be found in these humble homes.

A closer look and one knowledgeable about wood and weather might reveal that the buildings, and therefore Almund itself, are all relatively new, having stood for perhaps three decades at most. Whether the skeletal ships were taken during raids on merchant ships and retired to this ship city graveyard, no one can really be sure. The names of the boats had been sanded down and removed prior to being mounted on the edge or top of the city. This being the case, the speed with which it was established might surprise, until you took into account the focus on woodworking and general industriousness of the people. Everyone here knows about the Pirate Lords and, whilst there are mixed views on the twenty Lords who ruled this island for a century, there is no doubting that they made way for the place it is today and so, Almund is an unofficial shrine to them, a nod of thanks for the step up they gave.
