One trial soon...
Continued from here.
It was a hot trial in the forge as the smith went about his work. The fires had been blazing most of the morning and into the afternoon and Winston was lifting, hammering, forging and processing the alchemical traits of the Grave Gold ready for using in his
blood ingots
. Smoky
Joe
were helping and the progress was steady as they repeated the forging over and over again."Easy, don't ... Yeah. Perfect, mun." Winston placed the hot metal ingot onto the stone floor to cool, ready for shaping into the
blood ingot
. "Great. Tanks Smoks
. Two mar an we 'ave de full 'alf dozen ready tuh goh." The two companions were working at getting the supply of Blood Ingots ready for the visiting mages. Since he put up the notice, he'd not even had one interested party, but in typical optimistic fashion, he decided this was simply fate giving him time to prepare ample ingots to take the donations with... Which would undoubtably start rolling in any trial now.As he began to renew the glyphs around his
Alchemical Forge
, he sensed someone entering Chest... No... Two people. He coated the glyphs in the new regents as suddenly the door sprang open like a trapdoor.
Cho
(Winston's apprentice) thrust himself into the room, his arms out and a little out of breath. "Winston, I'm SO sorry. My mum has found out about the..."Flo
entered the room just behind her son, smiling pleasantly. "Winstaaaan. How are you?"The Devil on My Shoulder
Curiosity: Warning. She's here on a mission.
Winston: Me share she's jost 'ere tuh check an 'er son's pragress.
Curiosity: If you say so. I think she looks miffed.

The ferret detected an edge to her tone that reflected the concern in the boy's expression, though her manor was perfectly cordial. "Flo! Wat a pleasha! Me es gud tan..." He waved a hand at Shinwa to let him know it was ok, as he entered beside their guests, an apologetic expression on his face at the disruption.
The woman cut-in just before the Smith finished the last word of his sentence however. "I'm SO glad to hear that. Charles tells me you've been teaching him some interesting things."
Winston put down the chalk in his hand and adopted his best most charismatic expression of interest. The woman was carrying some kind of flower. It was purple and the heads open and vibrant. He was certain he'd seen them around the place from tim to time, but could not quite put his finger on where and certainly didn't know what they were. They wobbled about as the woman spoke.
"Oh yus. 'im es as very gud student. 'e will be betta den me en noh time." He said with genuine pride.
The woman smiled and nodded as if this news was not news at all, before continuing. "Oh yes. He's very clever. To clever for his own good sometimes, but far be it for me to stand in the way of anything my children ever wanted to do." Her tone was beginning to suggest that the point was about to be reached.
The ferret nodded, as if to say 'of course'.
"Which brings me to the recent lessons in 'blood' magic."
The Devil on My Shoulder
Curiosity: OOOOOoooooooohhhhhhh..... She thinks you are corrupting her son.
Winston: Riiiight. OK, dat es fair. Me share me cun explain dat et's all safe.
Curiosity: Watch out. Mother bare protecting their baby cub and all that jaz.

Understanding dawned on the alchemist and Cho smiled apologetically. Winston nodded with an air of total acceptance. "Af cars, Mrs Akki. 'im 'as shown some interest in dis, bot me cun ashar yuh, dat et es very safe."
She rose an eye-brow. "'Very' you say?"
He paused for a moment before elaborating on his statement. "What Cho studies es very safe. Me wud neva let 'im get entuh anyt'ing in dis workshap dat wud put 'im at risk."
The boy, a young man really by now, interjected with persistence. "See? I did say it was fine. I didn't even get to see any blood yet."
The woman placed the flower, pot and all, down on the table. "This is a
Wisp-wish Bloom
." The whole room looked at the plant for a moment. "Water it and keep it in the sun and in the right hands it can provide relief from pain, sooth ailments and provide entertainment at night." Her tone was light and chipper, with an edge of 'matter of fact' about the affair. Winston leaned in with renewed interest. "In the wrong hands however, it is very poisonous and can kill a person."The Devil on My Shoulder
Curiosity: OH SNAP! She just threatened your LIFE dude!
Winston: Naaaaaah. She's jost like...
Curiosity: ...telling you that your next meal could be your LAST if you mess with her family!
Winston: Uuuhhhhhh...
Curiosity: I LIKE her!

Winston swallowed some excess saliva and Cho buried his head in his hand.
"I trust my son implicitly with this flower and would never question his motives, but that's because I know that I have raised him to understand its dangers and the responsibility he assumes when growing such a thing..." She looked through the Cadouri as if he was not really there and he suppressed a shiver that ran up his spine. "...I trust you to do the same."
Clearing his throat, he began to speak, quite certain this was not a idle conversation. "Me ondastand yuh, Mrs Akki. Completely. Yuh cun be share dat wat me practice es af de most 'anarable and wholesome af practices. Tuh 'ear dat anytin' me made wus used far wrang, wud be af de most devistatin' af tings tuh me. Nat a weapon or poison, would eva com willin'ly af dees 'ands."
Flo knew the ferret for his reputation and it certainly didn't speak of murder. In fact, quite the opposite. "Thank you. And for what it's worth, I believe you, Mr Miller." She gave a little bow of her head before she went to leave. "Please accept this as a gift." She said, gesturing with her arm to the plant. "Or a reminder... See you at dinner, Charles." She called to Cho, nodded at Shinwa as she passed and made her way out.
Cho took in a deep breath and let it out again, relief intoned in his air as Winston chuckled. "Man, that went well. Sorry about that, Winston."
The ferret smiled and took up his chalk again. "Noh prablem, Cho. Me might sleep wid one eye open tunight doh."
"You joke, but my engineering mentor nearly choked when she had this conversation with him WHILE he was drinking some tea she had made him."
The ferret laughed out loud, holding his tummy as he did. "Nobady messes wid yuh mum around 'ere an maw me know why. Hhaha! Oh, cum an. Lets get tuh work. Me gat a bonch af dees tings tuh make yet."
With the help of Smokie and Cho, he set about completing the remaining items, ready to receive whatever donations he could when the mages started rolling in with magic abound. With the materials he'd gathered from Sweetsong, they discussed the coming events.
"So you really think you'll get a lot of donations?" Asked the apprentice as he lifted a new ingot into the forge.
Winston shrugged as he re-configured the magic circle of glyphs. "Me know dat me will be very disappointed ef me DON'T get a lat af donations only because me don't 'ave enough Ingots." He replied with a sly smile.
The boy tilted his head to one side, conceding the point to be good. "Fair. What are you hoping for most?"
The ferret chuckled. "Oh, dat's easy. Somet'ing unexpected." He answered with a dramatic air or wonder.
Cho chuckled and shook his head. "Of course."
As the two of them continued their work, Winston ensured that Cho had ample opportunity to explore the process and become familiar with the fundamentals through the repetition of the task at hand.
Spoiler
The blood ingot is an existing invention he's already built before here. In this thread, he's not doing anything new, just threading out the creation of a back-stock of the items for him to use as he sees fit.
The main ingredients are the Grave Gold and Peganots, both of which he can obtain within his current Wealth Tier from Sweetsong as they are listed as Primary Resources here, from here and here.
