[Hospital] Walking the walk, talking to walls.

Faith stood in the entrance way and she looked up at the sign above the door Image Willow Tree Hospital was, finally, ready. It had taken a lot of work, a lot of time and a lot of negotiation, but she had done it.

On the first trial of the new cycle, it would open and all that was left to do was for her to dedicate it. And so, Faith stepped in to the main, central building and she started to walk around the place. It wasn't deserted, far from it. People were here finishing tasks and preparing for the opening on the 1st of Ymiden. It was good and right that it opened on Ymiden, Faith thought - as one who bore the Immortal's mark she understood what a dawn like this meant.

It was the beginning of a new era in medicine, she was quite sure of it. Great innovation would happen here and it would be a place where collaboration between nations and people would happen. She breathed in and glanced at Alissa, her bodyguard and friend. "It's done," she said and Alissa nodded. "Did you ever doubt it?" Faith considered the question and then answered, truthfully. "Every moment, yes. But I was determined and that usually means I scrape something together."

Faith smiled at her friend as they moved into the hospital itself. She looked around and spoke softly to Alissa. "I'm going to dedicate the stone now," she said and Alissa nodded."What do you want me to do?" the biqaj asked and Faith considered it for a moment. "Cast your eye over the security arrangements?" she said. "Check in with the Skydas chief member here, and make sure that they have everything they need." Alissa nodded and walked away, leaving Faith to her work.

And so, Faith got started.

The first thing Faith did was go to the central office, her office, and get out the notes. She had started with a blank piece of parchment all those Cycles ago, with nothing more than the phrase "A Hospital for Idalos" but now? Now she had what she needed. So, she made sure that the notes were up to date.

Buildings
  • The Hospitals
    • Central Building
      • Name: The Kura Building
      • Purpose of Building:
        • Labs, medical research
        • All arrivals will arrive in the central room (as marked on the planImage. This room is the green area. To those who arrive, each quarter of the wall will be a beautiful, soothing, glass mural that provides light and images. That glass will follow along in the corridors, providing a visual cue for those who can not read - each of the four hospitals will have its own colour.
        • The lavender colour will be split into the four quarters as shown - these will be - 2 x sleeping areas for security, 1 x mess hall, 1 x recreation area for security. In the latter 2, the glass mural will be a transparent glass (so that security can see the arrivals at all times appropriate - but not while sleeping / resting). This has been commission from Egilrun.
        • The remaining off-white sections will be 2 x storage and 2 x training areas for security.
        • The remaining rooms will be labs, libraries, lecture rooms, etc.
      • Notes
        • Security here will be vital. I will, therefore, base my office there.
    • Top Left Hospital: (next to "A" retail area)
      • Name: The Pendleton Wing
      • Purpose of Building:
        • Treatment of Chronic, Long Term Conditions with Terminal / Long Term Life-Changing Prognosis.
      • Notes:
        • Placed here as both close to farms and temple, close to therapy and furthest away from the river.
    • Top Right Hospital (next to "C" retail area)
      • Name: The Tristan Building
      • Purpose of Building:
        • Treatment of Trauma (including long term abuse, magical mutations, etc).
        • This will be where former slaves will be brought
      • Notes:
        • Placed here as both close to farms and closest to where the new Beacon (name: Rey'na's Dawn) will be.
    • Bottom Left Hospital (next to "B" retail area)
      • Name: The Nir'wei Building
      • Purpose of Building:
        • Treatment of currently considered incurable diseases which are not terminal
        • Isolation area for those diseases which have high contagion
      • Notes:
        • Since the number of incurable diseases without terminal prognosis is relatively small, this hospital will also function as an isolation unit and spillover if needed
    • Bottom Right Hospital (next to "D" retail area)
      • Name: The Snootwing!
      • Purpose of Building:
        • Children's Hospital
      • Notes:
        • Nearest the river, this wing will be the most self-contained.
        • Theme here will be a "snootwing" which is a magical creature which heals children, helps them.
        • School here - Institute trains teachers - but not all patients are Rharnian - mixed curriculum.
  • Residences
    • Residences - Staff
      • A place to live for all staff, if they wish it.
      • High quality - a variety of options available - single rooms in a shared building, double rooms in a shared building, houses, apartments etc.
    • Notes
      • Staff can use the portals so not all staff will live here.
    • Residences - Relatives
      • A place to live for the families of those who are patients here.
      • High quality - a variety of options available - single rooms in a shared building, double rooms in a shared building, houses, apartments etc.
    • Notes
      • School here, links with school for Snootwing.
  • Therapy
    • Physical and Emotional Therapy to be provided here.
    • 1 in north, 1 in south - each will provide therapy of both kinds to 2 hospitals.
    • Also, professionals from here will visit hospitals as needed
  • Farms
    • Growing produce
    • Raising livestock
    • Vineyard
    [*] Notes
    • Will be used by Rey'na's Dawn as part of the training provided.
    • Greenhouses with both warm and cold glass (ordered from Egilrun) in order to facilitate maximum variety
    • Gardens and cave-systems in Eureka also be utilised here.
  • Rey'na's Dawn
    • A place for those slaves who have been freed (by Praetorum and via any other means)
    • A place for those who have been treated but do not yet wish to leave
    • Works on the same principles as Beacon - everyone contributes, etc.
  • River
    • Central place for import / export
    • Have spoken to Woe Morandi (Representative of Egilrun) about commissioning luxury vessels with the aim of having the option of a floating restaurant (like Cally's, but floating), floating crafters etc
    • This could be opened up to anyone willing to do it - good business opportunities
    • Work closely with the Therapy areas - and will provide entertainment and support for our patients and their families.
    [*] Notes
  • Temple
    • For all Immortals - as in Ne'haer, an all-temple
    • Morgue is housed (underneath) and the graveyard for those who wish to use it.
  • Mercantile Areas
    • Rharne, Scalvoris, EE have all claimed spaces..
    [*] Notes
    • The size of this- we'll need both services and entertainment.
  • Oasis
    • In farms and in residential areas, and near the hospitals - Oasis of Lovalus.
    [*] Notes
    • Will provide healing and emotional support
Once that was done, Faith made copies of it and sent them to each of the places she'd visited to get involved here. Of course, she also wrote a letter to those whose names appeared on the buildings. Everything was ready, now, she knew, and so she put all the documents, all the notes and decisions, all the plans and preparations for the opening in the safe and then she stood.

In the design of this hospital, Faith had made sure that every building was connected to every other. There had been a reason for that above and beyond the need to keep dry during inclement weather. The reason was because she had an ability, granted to her by Moseke and something that she could use now to it's absolute maximum. Before she did that, though, she first made her way out to the edges of Willow Tree, to the farms which were past the boundaries of the hospital iteself. These farms would be where those who lived in Rey'na's Dawn worked, among other places. The farms would feed the small village and would hopefully provide to the hospital too. People were there, now, working, but Faith made her way to where the Oasis had to go.

The area had been prepared and marked out and so she knelt in the earth for a moment and concentrated. The first Brightgleam Oasis was going here and she drew on the power granted to her by Lovalus. The waters formed and Faith smiled as the rich and verdant oasis grew. It was an amazing sight, she was pleased and delighted by it. Another one the other side of the farms and then one in between each residential area. They areas were mapped out and identified so Faith had to just go through and do it. It was important, she knew, that Lovalus was very much part of this and, as she would dedicate the bricks to Moseke's healing, so too the ground was of Lovalus. Because Lovalus was the Induk of Rharne, and this was her land.

Once every oasis was in place, Faith made her way to the graveyard and morgue. There she knelt and prayed, dedicating the area to Famula, Vri and the Twins. Those who dealt with the souls of the dead, Faith prayed that each soul which passed here did so peacefully and without pain or regret. It was an unlikely situation, she knew, but she would hope for it.

So, after a morning spent doing that, Faith made her way back to the central building - the Kura Building. The gleaming glass from Egilrun and the labs and equipment. She could not help but smile at the sight of these things. They were potential and she couldn't wait to get herself in there and start innovating. It was exciting and she was looking forward to the future. What pleased her most, in that moment, was that this place would stand without her. It was creating new opportunities for people to heal others and be healed. She could think of nothing more appropriate.

As the sun reached its zenith in the sky, Faith turned her attention from the spirits and the souls of this place and focused, instead, on the bricks and stones.

It was the last thing that she had to do here and then, she'd use the Eclipse Portal and make her way to Scalvoris. She was going to make her way to Egilrun to pick up a few more things and to catch up with Woe. She hadn't mentioned that she was coming but Faith was hopeful that she could be there and back fairly quickly. Unless, of course, she took the time to pop in and see Kura. That would be nice, she though and maybe the two of them could come to the opening ceremony together.

Her mind was full of plans for the future as she started in the very middle point of the central building - the Kura Building. There, she put her hand on the wall and she began to pray. "Moseke, I ask you humbly to bless these walls," Faith said. As she made her way in concentric circles through this building and then, one by one, into the others - always connected together deliberately designed in that way, she used the abilityWith this ability, when Faith finds a need she is able to awaken stone to the purpose it is being used for. So, the stone of a home will strive to serve that purposes to the fullest extent of their ability. Stones in a home will stay secured even through a disaster as it protects the people inside. In a hospital the stones themselves will stay clean and fight of germs to protect the lives of those there. A castle would be more difficult to destroy / breach, as the stone stands firm, a theatre or concert hall has exquisite acoustics, etc. The stones awoken in this way will not do anything to aid an attack, but will work to defend, or to heal, or to grow etc. This ability takes a full hour to use as Faith has to connect with the stone and dedicate it to Moseke. Once a season she can dedicate the stones of a contiguous stone structure. granted to her. It was the purpose of this place to be a place where people came to heal, in whatever way they needed to.

Physical healing, healing from emotional trauma, whatever it was - that was the purpose of this building. It was one building, one place, with four wings and Faith was determined that even the stones themselves would be part of that healing process. So, she made her way out and around and she dedicated it. Every five minutes she stopped and thanked Moseke, touching the wall and praying. It took the whole hour to make her way fully around and she relished the experience of it.

After the hour was done and she had visited every floor of every wing and dedicated it, Faith found herself back in the main reception area. The Egilrun glass was beautiful and cast multicoloured light all over the place. She smiled at Alissa who was waiting there for her and asked, "Everything alright?" Alissa nodded, yes, it was fine and so the two women made their way out.

Had Faith know that her time on Idalos was, at this point, numbered in hours she might have said something to Alissa, to try and prepare her. Maybe she would have, although in all likelihood she would have gone home to her children and simply held on to them. However, Faith didn't know and so she made her way to Rharne town and, from there to Scalvoris.

Her time in Rharne was done. She just didn't know it.

Feedback

I felt a little bit emotional as I read this, and a little sad about Faith still. I think she was an amazing character that touched so many pcs, and had such a massive impact on the site. It'll be a different world without her, even if the Hospital lasts thousands of years. The absence of a good person like Faith will be felt.

But she lives in the goodness of the people she left behind, tutored, mentored, and helped along the way. Her legacy is multi-tiered it can be argued, so although many pcs will be sad they can't reach out and talk to Faith anymore, she taught well and made Idalos a better place for good people.

This was a fine capstone to her life, an achievement beyond belief reallly, almost magic punk in its advancement. I salute Faith's achievement! Will update your tracker soonish.

Great writing.
