"Walk faster, Kori! We're going to be late!" Aokan, much like a dog, kept running in circles around him, before dashing off to Laneey, grabbing her arm and pulling the girl towards the beach. Like always, he kept some distance from Kori'än, giving him his space.
Kori'än had absolutely no idea how they could be late for something that didn't even have a scheduled time, how Aokan could be that energetic in such early breaks, and how he had allowed the kid to convince him that leaving the house at dawn was a good idea. The second sun had already made its appearance, painting the clouds with the colours of a rainbow. It was weird, unlike anything Kori'än had seen, but it was beautiful and it at least would provide a distraction from the endless nightmares. He was used to it already, the images that plagued his dreams almost always forgotten after he had awakened, but this time, he could still smell the blood and hear the screams. Every time he blinked, he could see the feathers falling from the sky. With a sigh, he brushed the back of his neck, hand stopping over the tattoo he couldn't even read, hidden away from his and everyone's eyes by his clothes.
"Faster!" His brother's yell made him turn to look at the young boy, eyebrow raised. Aokan must have seen the lack of real annoyance on his face, however, because he simply giggled and continued with his endless chant of 'fasters' and 'hurry ups'. Kori'än rolled his eyes, a small smile on his lips, as he followed the two kids out of town. Shawa had followed them for a while, much to his surprise, since the dog still kept her distance from everyone. When they began to walk on busier streets, she had darted off, and Kori'än had lost sight of her.
Now, they were finally at the beach, and Kori'än felt regret for getting out settle in his chest as he saw how many people were there. Couples walking around with arms intertwined, friends chatting away and dancing in circles, a couple of dogs running around the sand―
"Kaunabeautiful..." Laneey's words were spoken so softly, and her voice was still so unfamiliar to him that it took a few moments for Kori'än to realize the girl had spoken. However, as he did, he looked down at her, eyes widening slightly.
"What?" Even he could see that the word, spoken in surprise, made Laneey flinch and look away, red tinting her freckled cheeks. He cursed himself under his breath, before softening his voice. "Sorry, I was... Sorry. I just didn't understand what you said. Was that...?" He searched his memory for the name of Laneey's language, coming up with nothing. What a great brother, he was.
... When had he started thinking of Laneey as his sister?
"Vauni," she offered, and he nodded in thanks. Vauni. He would remember that this time. "It's... pretty." Kori'än's eyes shifted to where Laneey was pointing to, widening once again when he saw the green-coloured sand of Scalvoris' beach darkening into a deep blue, and then shifting to purple. Rainbow clouds and rainbow sand, it seemed.
"It is pretty," he agreed, looking at her again. "Do you want to go there?" Laneey opened a huge smile, nodding, and Kori'än pressed his lips together to keep himself from chuckling. Calling out to Aokan, they moved further away from the city gate, until they reached the rainbow-coloured area, where people were dancing around, some sitting on the sand and just talking and enjoying the place.
"This is so cool!" Aokan was already prancing over the blue sand, looking around and smiling even further. "Kori! Dance with me!"
Kori'än wondered if Aokan was on a quest to kill him. "No. Why don't you dance with Laneey instead?" Surprisingly enough, the girl seemed keen on the idea, and soon enough, Aokan was swirling Laneey around. Kori'än chuckled, sitting down on the beach and resting his chin on his hand, watching the two.
