Ashan 35, Arc 697
"Lord Victor, it’s time for your riding lesson!" Mistress Jeanette, Victor’s riding instructor, a human woman in her thirties with blonde hair that she wore in a bun and dark brown eyes told the young noble. Said young noble was currently lying on his belly in his fancy four-poster bed, reading a book of very simple fairy tales in Rakahi which was a bit of a struggle (the grammar was different from his native Common, although Victor didn’t know much about grammar at his age; to him, Rakahi was just more or less just weird).
When he heard the woman speak, he abruptly slammed the book shut and jumped up, a wide smile on his face. He loved riding. He had learned to ride approximately an arc earlier, and while he had never gotten as good as his brother (who he was always being compared to, even though they didn’t have much in common) he did manage to stay in the saddle most of the time these trials. Sometimes, Apple, the black and white pony that he usually rode, even moved in the direction that he wanted her to move in which was great!
Once he had put his shiny black riding boots and a nice jacket on (Mistress Jeanette insisted that he wear a jacket as it was still a little cool outside around this time of the arc), the little lord was ready to go and followed his instructor through the fortress with a spring in his step and a grin, much to the amusement of the various servants that they passed by.
Before long, they were in the stable, and Victor fed Apple a carrot (in spite of her name, the little mare preferred those particular vegetables), and then he grabbed the reins and tried to mount her, with little success. Once Mistress Jeanette helped him a little, he managed to get into the saddle though, and then he pushed his feet into Apple’s sides, and soon they were on their way out of the stable and went on one of their tours of the fortress grounds that he loved so much. Mistress Jeanette rode next to him, on her own horse, but she watched him closely so that she would be able to intervene at a moment’s notice, and occasionally she told him what he was doing wrong and corrected him.
They were moving at just a little above a snail’s pace, but Victor wasn’t aware of that. In his opinion, they were riding really fast, and it was so much fun, and he couldn’t wait until he was finally old enough to accompany his father and his brother on one of their hunting trips.
Maybe he’d shoot a bear!
They had bears in the forest outside of Lysoria, right?
