Singles' Night (Open)

The cities and villages of Melrath are as varied and diverse as they come. The capital of Raelia is the the jewel of this western kingdom, playing host to a merchants, artisans, Aesir priests, as well as a cut throat political landscape dominated by the nobles of Raelia. To the south in the depths of the Myrkvior Forest lies Melrath's second largest, and oldest city, Fensalir. Here people have learned to live alongside spirits and the natural world by maintaining their loyalty to traditions laid down the first Melrathi. To the east lies the small fishing village of Noatun, and to the western mountains rests the Mer city of Verimeer, the brewing town of Alivilda and the alpine village Vormund.

In the Backroom...

Rorom nodded and winked at Navyri as she welcomed the 'volunteers' into the backroom. Then he took a seat. A few moments later, others filtered into the room, one young woman seated herself to Rorom's left, while another man sat at his right. Something about the man sparked a faint sense of familiarity in Rorom. Had he done business with that lad? He thought perhaps nels had changed hands between the two of them, but decided it was nothing. Rorom was always giving out nels to encourage commerce. Perhaps some of those nels had found their way into Abra's pocket by happenstance. It was of little concern.

Still, he kept his Grifter's Eye focused on him, just in case there was something off about his intent.

When the drinks and jug began getting passed around, Rorom took one sniff of the stuff and stuck out his tongue. "Old Gray's Coinpurse, what is this fruity swill?" He said in Rakahi, invoking a nickname of Charmadarst shared among the Biqaj. Then in common to Soren: "Got any Screaming Mer? Something with a splash of salt with some sting to it?"

Then, the woman with wings spoke to him. There was something strange about her, and not just the wings. He couldn't put his finger on it, but kept his nel close to his hand. Women that spoke like that were often enough a danger to wealth. Rorom wasn't stingy by any sense of the word, but like trade for like was a credo he tried to live by. He wasn't ready to hemorrhage nel for the sake of some temporary pleasure. Even so, he winked again at her, not wanting to be a bad guest. He spoke the following in Rakahi to her, "The Schooner is at dry dock. Sloop is out to sea with some crew members. I prefer mobility to size in most things."

When she said she liked to sail from time to time, he dropped the flirty undertones of what he was saying, and perked up. Always one to talk shop, he began talking in more serious tones, still in Rakahi, "What kind of ship she be? Maybe we can go racing sometime."

Re: Singles' Night (Open)

The Transmuter had felt quite bold and rebellious when he had entered the room, so much that he’d offered to go first, but now that he sat there and waited for the game to actually start, he wasn’t so sure anymore. He took the glass that Soren had set down in front of his seat and inspected its contents for a moment before he drank. He wasn’t sure what the drink was called – it smelled and tasted like blackberries, which was strange – but he didn’t care. Hopefully, it would help calm his nerves – or simply make him so drunk that he stopped caring.

He didn’t know any of the people in the room, which he considered to be a good thing as kissing someone he knew would be more awkward than kissing a stranger he might never see again after that trial. The group was an even mixture of genders. Fortunately, there were no unappealing races such as Ithecal, and no hideous people or people that had terrible body odor. The latter would have made him back down, in spite of his initial excitement – no matter how drunk and desperate to forget his dead lover he was, he had certain standards.

His gaze was drawn to Navyri again as she spoke. He still assumed her to be an Avriel due to her wings, but he had noticed that she was something else as well, something that he had not expected to find in Melrath at all. For a moment, he wondered how she had earned the mark – whether she shared his love for travelling and treasure – and then the bottle was suddenly in his hand. He eyed it for a moment before he started to spin it because he didn’t want these people to consider him a coward and watched it with bated breath.

The bottle pointed at Navyri, of course, the most unusual and beautiful person in the room and the one that would be the most critical of his kiss, if the way she had acted so far was any indicator. “It seems as if you will be my first. I certainly didn’t expect to meet somebody like you in Melrath”, he remarked, smiling slightly, as if his heart wasn’t beating rapidly in his chest, as he wondered how he was supposed to reach her without looking awkward and clumsy which was something that he had absolutely no interest in. Roda sat between them which meant that he couldn’t just lean a little to the side.

Well, it seemed as if he would have no choice. He stood, quite aware of the fact that all eyes would be on him now, and turned to her, crooking a finger slightly as if he wanted to tell her to move just a little closer to him. He met her gaze for a few trills – she would see that there were strange flecks of silver in his eyes, the result of one of his mutations – before he gently cupped her face with his hands. His fingertips lingered there for a moment before he leaned in, parting his lips slightly as he did so. The kiss was deeper than a mere peck on the lips, with maybe just a hint of tongue if she was willing, and it lasted for a few moments before he pulled away again.

His cheeks were colored with just a hint of blush as he returned to his seat. Hopefully, he thought, the other participants felt somewhat inspired by his example and wouldn’t just kiss each other’s cheeks in an awkward manner for the fraction of a trill, and hopefully Navyri had approved. “Who’s next?” he wanted to know as he reached for his drink once more. He could feel the effect of the alcohol now – it filled his body with a curious and pleasant kind of warmth - and he was much more comfortable as a consequence.

Re: Singles' Night (Open)

I am terrified by this dark thing
That sleeps in me;

► Show Spoiler

Navyri was watching Rorom when Victor leaned forward to spin the bottle, “A sloop and a brigantine, but you would lose. The wind always favor my sails,” she returned the sailor’s wink with one of her own, lowering her attention as the bottle slowed to a stop.

It pointed directly at her.

She slapped the table playfully, “And what an example that is. If you’ll excuse me,” Navyri rose at the same time as Victor, who seemed a bit put off with how he was to kiss with Roda between them. Crooking a finger, he wanted her to move closer and she smiled, walking behind the dark skinned woman with fingers trailing across her shoulders. Roda stiffened beneath her touch and took the shot Soren had offered.

Navyri stopped short of Victor, humming when he mentioned not expecting to meet someone like her, “A surprise a day keeps the boredom away and I am one of a kind.” Navyri snaked her arms around his waist, his own hand cupping her face. Staring into silver dusted eyes, the winged Naer pressed against him and craned her neck.

Parting her lips, his tongue ran along her own in subtle simplicity. It was a familiar, welcoming feeling; easy, controlled and tempting. Their lips parted in unison; a silent agreement to end before it transformed into something else and Navyri reached for the bottle.

“I’ll go next,” she announced, “The bottle picks the person, that person spins. Fair?”

She paused for any objections and then flicked her wrist, the bottle whirling around and around and around and then-

Victor.

Navyri laughed, reaching for her previous companion, “Oh, you lucky duck,” With a smirk, she ran her hands up his chest and laced her fingers behind his neck, “Round two, then?” Blue eyes closing, she pulled his lips to hers and tasted the blackberries on his tongue, coaxing more flavor by deepening the kiss. The winged woman was far from shy on any given day and knew she still needed restraint now with alcohol swirling in her mind, but the man was young and showed signs of strength, and maybe, just maybe, she would ask him to come upstairs by the end of the night.

Or maybe not.

Navyri caught Victor’s bottom lip between her teeth to still the kiss and pecked him on the cheek with the beginnings of desire in her eyes. She thought about saying something witty, or even a compliment, but decided to keep her thoughts to herself and let her hands follow.

With casual grace, the Naer glided back to her seat and took a drink, the bottle already circling again.

All day I feel its soft, feathery turnings, its malignity.

Overview
Woof, what a doozy of a thread. Matchmaking, dancing, kissing, drinking, vomiting—this was certainly a night for everyone involved to remember. I couldn’t help laughing when Soren picked up his partner and pushed her into an occupied toilet to throw up on some poor stranger.

I also really liked how Victor's thoughts initially kept sliding back to his past, and then over time started to focus more on the present as he gets drunk and distracted; it gives a really good sense of where his head's at as the night goes on.

I have to say, though, that Navyri/Victor kiss is kind of funny considering more current events. It’s a pity this thread didn’t get finished, but what did get finished is a fun read.

Enjoy your rewards, and feel free to PM or discord me with any questions or concerns. Those of you who didn’t request knowledges, PM me if you return and I’ll edit this review.
