=Introduction=
The Skills Scale down came about in order to put right some long-term issues with our skills. There were many skills which had a lot of overlap, some which were very specific and others which were very broad. The entire volunteer team worked together to ensure that this scale down was as cohesive as possible. 

==What's Changed?==
Below is a list of changes:
# The [[:Category: Skills | Skills Index]] is a lot smaller. We've gone from over 100 skills to nearly 70, at the time of this scale down.

=Overview=
The Skills Scale Down means that you now have less skills to work with than before. This should make things easier in terms of crossover of skills, not understanding which skill does what in any given situation and, of course, having more XP to play with! 

==How was it done?==
All volunteers (Peer Reviewers, Wiki Workers, Prophets) went through each skill in a list. We discussed every skill change and went with the majority. We then made all the changes, step by step so that (hopefully!) this is a smooth roll-out.

=Can I still do everything I could before?=
Short answer? Yes!
Long answer? Yes, you can!

==How does that work?!==
Where a skill has been "dropped" it has done so because it exists / is part of another skill. Therefore, each "dropped" skill has actually been merged with another skill (or with more than one). Throughout this guide, we're going to use the example of Cooking and Baking.

'''Cooking''' has remained as a skill  but '''Baking''' has been "dropped" and is now part of Cooking.

So. If, previously, your Cooking was at Expert and your Baking was at Master - you will now have Cooking at Master, and will be as good at baking stuff as you were before. The bonus is that you'll be better at aspects of Cooking.
===Example How-To===
Let's look at the specific example of what to do with Knowledge & XP here.

* The PC '''Jane''' currently has the following:
** Cooking Master with 200 XP and 45 Knowledge.
** Baking Competent with 30 XP and 15 Knowledge

* Meanwhile, the PC '''Jim''' has this:
** Cooking Competent with 35 XP and 10 Knowledge
** Baking Master with 200 XP and 36 Knowledge.
<br>
The process they go through is:
* They add their Baking Knowledge to their existing Cooking Knowledge. ~ ( see "Transferring Knowledge" below)
** Jane now has 60 Knowledge, 
** Jim has 46
<br>
* They look at their XP. The remaining skill must be of the same level (or higher) than the highest previous skill.
** For Jane, that's fine. Cooking was her highest. She can put her Baking XP into her XP Pool (see "Transferring XP" below)
** Jim, though, has to take Cooking to Master and it must have minimum 200 XP (so that he is still as good / at the same level as he was). Jim puts his Cooking at Master with 200 XP.(see "XP Pool" below). He puts the remaining 35 in his XP Pool.

* Jane now has 30 spare XP to put back in her pool
* Jim has 35.
<br><br>
Jane can now GM Cooking. So, she might want to spend that 30 to bring her Cooking skill up. That's up to the player, though.

So, now, both players are Master Cooking. Jim can bake as well as he ever could, and he has improved in terms of his cooking skills. Jane got better with chocolate work.

=New Skills=
This has led to the creation of some new skills:

* '''Art'''- Combining both the old Painting and Drawing skills (with aspects of Forgery), this skill is the production of pieces of art. 
* '''Athletics''' - This skill combines Acrobatics, Running & Climbing. 
* '''Science''' - This is the combination of Chemistry  & Physics, and should be seen as encompassing broader sciences too (eg: Biology)
* '''Larceny''' - This is the combination of Lock Picking and Pick Pocketing and is all your Larcenous skills in one. In another system, it might be called Thievery.

# Go through your skill list one skill at a time in the A - Z below. 
# For each skill impacted, follow the steps given.

== Transferring Knowledge==
* If knowledge is transferring from one skill to another - please make sure to note it.
* Depending on how you record knowledge that might be by placing an asterisk in front of knowledge which has been transferred, (eg: *Baking: How to make a pastry) or putting the new skill name in there, also.  (Cooking: Baking: How to make a pastry)
* DO NOT remove the old / previous skill name. 
* '''PLEASE NOTE''' the knowledge transfer needs to ''make the most narrative sense.'' While you can, for example, transfer Agriculture Knowledge to either Gardening or Logistics - if you spent your time focusing on growing crops - that's Gardening. If you spent your time working out how to make your farm most efficient - that's Logistics.  We are aware that, since you transfer all Knowledge to one skill - there may be stray knowledge which "fit" better with another skill - but please just transfer to the skill which makes the most narrative sense. In the example here, almost all Agriculture transfers will be to Gardening.

==XP Pool==
* A number of the skills below say that you should put XP in your XP Pool
* This must be trackable and clearly recorded. 
** This could be in a new post in your CS or Plot Notes, which is linked in your XP Ledger in your CS. 
** Or, it could be done as individual entries in your XP ledger in your CS.
* Whichever way you record it, your Peer Reviewer '''must''' be able to see entries per skill. In the example given above, Jim's CS must show that 35 XP. Recording only the final total of your new XP Pool is '''not''' sufficient. 
* Once you have your '''final''' XP Pool (once you've dealt with all your skills) - then you can spend those XP how you choose.

Doesn't matter - as it basically was an XP amount on start up, it will be automatically dealt with in this process.


= NPCs =
This will also impact personal NPCs. 
* If an NPC has a skill which has been dropped (eg: Baking) - they transfer to the new skill (Cooking).
* If the NPC already had the new skill (eg: they had both Cooking and Baking) they can have a new (non-magic) skill which makes narrative sense to them.
* Their skill levels remain the same (so if they had four skills at 30, 30, 20, 20 XP, then that's what they still have).
* This '''must''' be clearly recorded in your CS
* When you next apply for a skill improvement for that NPC, you must clearly identify any skill changes in that claim, also.

=Wealth Threads / Loyalty Bonuses=
Don't worry! If your Wealth Skill no longer exists as a stand alone skill - that's fine. You transfer your loyalty bonus to the Skill you transferred your Knowledge to! Easy :)
