The Merchants Guild of Scalvoris announces that it is looking for new members! Specifically, it wants people who will be willing to be involved in the governance / leadership of the Guild. Open - Plot Tracker for any who wish to be involved!

What To Post Here!

If you are going to be looking to move up in the Merchants' Guild, perhas taking on a leadership role, please complete Task 1, then post here.

Task 1: Develop an antagonist or two.
Please develop (or identify existing) NPCs who will be an interesting antagonist for your pc.

Task 2: Attend a Meeting
This can be self modded, it doesn't have to be a "whole guild" meeting - it could be an "introduction" with a few members, whatever. In it please:
a) Make sure to include at least one of your antagonists
b) Have them asking lots of questions about your pc. Specifically, their history and how they will helpthe MG
c) Have your PC put forward a "pitch" of their business (either existing or about to open) - and "sell" it to the MG
Please link here before putting up for review, and I'll modnote.

Task 3: Meeting 2: Be useful!
Attend a second meeting - either with the same people, new people, or a mix. In that meeting, be useful to the Merchants Guild. Have something that they want, maybe, or offer them a service of some kind. But be careful - I have a whole list of "things that they don't want / like" that your PC won't know about. This is a tricky negotiation, please play it as such. Step up the "pitch" you put forward in Task 2.

Description of your PCs strengths & weaknesses as far as the Guild is concerned Woe is a little weak on the Business management side as only Competent, but he's good with people and social skills. His main weakness is his long list of indiscretions and dark past.
If someone was trying to dig up dirt on your PC, what would they find out? Murder, infidelity, involvement in several death cults, and that he has worked as a torturer.
How is your pc going to present themselves in this bid? As someone who gets stuff done.
What is your PCs ultimate goal here? To become a influential member of the Merchant's Guild.

Woe attends a meeting and finds Dustin as well as one of his local 'hospitality' rivals chatting it up in the meeting hall of the Merchant's Guild in Almund. Link to Antagonist(s): Lucas Mallory, Easton Huxley, and Torsten Odd (I did an extra one since I wasn't sure if Lucas Mallory would count and I intend to have the two saboteurs appear individually)
Description of your PCs strengths & weaknesses as far as the Guild is concerned: Balthazar has remarkably little skill in business management but he is a great leader and for a mercenary company, that might be more important. He also has somewhat of a mixed reputation in Scalvoris. An important weakness might be that his plan for a mercenary company includes a shop attached and he has no experience managing that sort of business.
If someone was trying to dig up dirt on your PC, what would they find out?: If they are really good, he was a smuggler when he was younger (in Yaralon). Otherwise 'dirt' sorta depends on their perspective. They could uncover anything that was found out during his trial (i.e. leaving for about an arc while he was employed as an Element), his problems with the Elements (why he was fired), or that members of his mercenary company have shady pasts. For some, the fact that he is a mage with four sparks might be considered dirt.
How is your pc going to present themselves in this bid?: As someone who will help bring unity and profitable cooperation to the Merchant's Guild.
What is your PCs ultimate goal here?: To advance as far into the Merchant's Guild as a mercenary company will allow him, then branch off into other businesses to keep going up.

Defiance: Skin always glows faintly and he is warm to the touch. His is also the center of a field of static electricity so people get shocked touching him on occasion.
Rupturing: Orange etheric cracks spider-web up his arms to his elbows. His eyes and the glowing cracks going down his cheeks glow dark blue.
Transmutation: He has a series of emerald, glowing cracks on his right pectoral.
Marks
Bellinos: His fingernails are always black. The color fades into his fingers.
Celarion: A dim glowing ring surrounds his left forearm.
Palenon: A silver lightning shaped mark about the size of a hand stretching up towards his torso.

Scars

  • Oops, Oops, Ouch: Balthazar Black has twenty scars across his back from a lashing as well as scars on his hands and arms from jagged rocks on Faldrass. There are two scars on the sides of his abdomen from being stabbed and a slash across his back which blends in with the whip scars.

Foul Play is Fair Play - Balthazar attends a Merchant Guild meeting outside the Scalvoris Council Offices (write-up said non-members would be directed there and not the Guild building itself.) He meets Easton Huxley who tries to get him to stop before he begins and then pitches The Black Cats as problem solvers.

The Guild Has Eyes

Woe and Balthazar separately arrive at the Merchant's Guild, and then have a short exchange during which they discuss how they can be useful to each other. They break off at various points to talk to their various ancillary characters and antagonists.

At the end of the thread, Woe gives a speech proposing a new avenue of private expansion, resource collection, namely expanding the lumber industry.

Balthazar proposes putting the Black Cats to work for the various businesses around the island, offering to act within local laws yet take steps that the ELements may be reluctant to.
