Re: [Scalvoris] Drugs, Medicines & Poisons

Spiritweed
Image
Developed by DEVIN
Short Description Spiritweed is a long, grey type of grass that can cause someone to hear spirits.
Found Spiritweed can be found deep in the forests of Scalvoris, but it is exceedingly rare. Some claim, that it is more likely to be found in places where spirits are or have been active, or near certain religious sites, but that is just that - a claim. Nobody knows why Spiritweed grows where it does yet, only that it rarely occurs among patches of normal grass.
Toxicity/Hazard Ingesting Spiritweed can cause dreadful stomach aches and vomiting. These side effects can be avoided by drying it first. Larger quantities of Spiritweed can cause speech problems and balance problems. Death is highly unlikely to occur though, unless one ingests an exceedingly large dose.
Appearance Spiritweed looks like regular grass, but it is grey.
Properties An individual that ingests or smokes Spiritweed enters an almost trance-like state during which they can hear spirits, provided that they are in a place where spirits are present. They can just hear them, more clearly than they normally would, but they cannot really understand what they are saying - or be understood by them.
Rarity Rare
How To Use Spiritweed can be dried, ground into a powder and ingested. It can also be smoked though.
Side Effects Ingesting fresh Spiritweed can cause stomach cramps and vomiting. These side effects can be avoided by drying it first. An individual that ingests Spiritweed also enters an almost trance-like state. Larger quantities of Spiritweed can cause the individual to become incoherent and suffer balance problems as well as visual hallucinations that vary in severity, depending on how much Spiritweed was ingested.
Status Legal
Price Must be threaded and requested as a thread reward to obtain, linking to this write up
Notes While it is legal to own Spiritweed, it is not normally for sale. Usually, one has to gather it.

Sucklesoid Sting
Image
Developed by Shl'drei
Price: T8

Abilities: Harvested from the tails of the Sucklesoid, this acid has two properties. It can melt wood and, if diluted, can also act as a numbing agent. Each sucklesoid can be harvested for up to half a teaspoon of this gooey yellow pus-like ooze. Their tails, roughly three inches, hold a numbing agent that also works as an acid on wood. The acid has numbing effects if diluted properly. If not diluted it burns and itches causing rashes but it'll go away after a break or so.

Asterra Tea

Developed by Kirei Qe'Azour
Short Description: A tea made from dried Asterra flowers and leaves
Found: At the Order of Adunih clinic
Toxicity/Hazard: It isn't poisonous, but it does have a number of unpleasant side effects
Appearance: A standard looking cup of white tea, or like dried leaves and flowers if in herb form
Properties: This herb can be used to make a powerful medicine that will prevent you from throwing up. It will work when all others fail, but it may or may not ease the nausea that causes you to throw up. The tea itself is sweet, and has a very pleasant, soothing taste. The effects of the drug will last for five to fifteen breaks.
Rarity: Common
How To Use: The flowers and leaves must be dried first, then steeped in water to make the tea. Normally the tea is consumed orally, and it will take effect as soon as it is absorbed into the body via digestion. But in cases when it needs to work faster than that (for example if the patient has an injury that is being worsened by the violence of throwing up constantly, or if the patient can't keep the medicine down long enough for it to take effect), it can be strengthened and refined with the use of alchemy, and injected into the patient.
Side Effects: Potential side effects include 1) tingling in the extremities akin to the sensation of a limb waking up after it has fallen asleep, 2) weakness and/or lethargy ranging from mild to moderate, 3) dizziness ranging from mild to moderate caused by a drop in blood pressure. Not everyone who consumes this drug will suffer from all of these side effects. Some will not experience them at all. Those that do usually only experience one. Mild dizziness is the most common of the symptoms. If the drug is injected rather than consumed as a tea, it is more likely that there will be side effects due to the increased potency of the drug, but some will still not experience any symptoms at all. It is also more likely, but not definite that the patient will experience more than one side effect. The side effects can last for as long as it takes for the drug to wear off and pass through the system; the side effects are more potent for consuming the drug than the flower because they are more severe if the flowers and leaves are dried before being consumed, and more severe still if concentrated into injection form. This drug is administered on an inpatient basis only so that the patient can be observed until any side effects they experience wear off.
Status: Very raresave for use by the members of the Order of Adunih
Price: Tier 8 outside the Order of the Adunih. It is only administered as a last resort by the Order to inpatients who cannot keep any food or water down
Notes: It is a powerful medicine but is only used at great need due to the potential side effects.

Waking Creativity

Developed by Shl'drei
Short Description Also called 'Liquid Sleep' in its drug form, are, far as anyone knows, nonexistent because the plant only grows in deep water, and mer's who swim in areas populated by the plant have grown immune. Essentially it produces a chemical that it releases while submerged.
Found Underwater, as they can't release the chemical unless submerged.
Toxicity/Hazard Highly hazardous to swimmers if consumed. That said, the chemical disintegrates when coming into contact with large amounts oxygen. Mer's who spend large periods of time in water with the plant can build resistance to it.
Appearance Spindly, wiggly kelp like leaves. They tent to root themselves between rocks.
Properties These spindly strands let the chemicals mix with the water creating very potent sedation method if used correctly or very deadly one if not. That said, the chemical in one plant isn't very strong, however this kelp multiplies asexually and at a fast rate until it withers.
Rarity Very Rare
How To Use Usually administered by dropping water that has been around it in food or drinks. The chemical doesn't have a taste so depending on what you submerged it in it could be impossible to detect.
Side Effects Drowsiness, Lethargy, Increased brain activity, hypersomnia, comatose states
Status Unknown (Illegal)
Price 3-5 WP depending on the size of the bottle
Notes Once harvested there's a short window of time to submerge the plant again before it dies. Because of this it's very hard to breed.
