Tempest Lily
Image Image
Developed by Elisabeth Angelus
Short Description The Tempest Lily is found growing in the warm sandy beaches of Faldrass. A hardy flower, the heat of the sand protects it during all seasons with the exception of Cylus. Blooms start appearing in early Ashan and the plant is a frequent rebloomer through Zi'da. Emits a soft, glowing light in the dark.
Found Faldrass (sand beaches)
Toxicity/Hazard None known
Appearance This rugged and beautiful little wildflower is easily recognized by the sweet smelling, star-shaped white sand lily flowers on stalks rising from a basal clump of slender, grass like leaves. In the dark, the white flowers emit a soft, glowing light. This doesn't seem to be effected by cutting the flower from the plant.
Properties Aromatic, decorative flower. Emits light in the dark. Cut stems stay fresh slightly longer than normal cut flowers (provided they are given even trace amounts of water)
Rarity Uncommon
How To Use Decorative only
Side Effects None
StatusLegal
Price Not for Sale
Notes Just a pretty flower that can be collected on the beaches of Faldrass

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Frost Princess
Image
Developed by Nicholas Erobern
Short Description Frost Princess is one of the rare plants that sprout towards the end of Zi'da, bloom in the first few trials of, Cylus, and then thrive through the end of Ashan. The plant looks like a red, pink or purple rose covered in frost. Even if moved indoors the frost will not melt and the flower will be cold to the touch. The only way to melt it is in open flame but then the moment between unfreezing and burning in ash is close to nothing. Cold mist can be seen coming off of it and the plant has a light, refreshing fragrance. Ground around the plant is always in solid ice. One must be careful when harvesting this plant.
Found Mostly, in Sweetvine forest, but have been spotted recently throughout the whole of Scalvoris.
Toxicity/Hazard As a single plant, it poses a slight risk of causing frostbites if picked with bare skin. It's much more dangerous, though, if someone lands in a whole field of them as it can cause widespread and high degree cold damage. In no way one should ingest any part of the plant as it, most likely, will freeze a number of organs, and, in rarer cases, the whole body.
Appearance Frost Princess in almost all manners resemble a typical rose. It has a hard stem, brightly red, pink, or purple petals, and the leaves have saw-tooth edges. Every part of the flower is covered in white frost and, if observed carefully, one can see white mist leaving its head.
Properties When influenced by a strong force (moved by a strong breeze, plucked, stepped on, and such) the flower will release an extremely cold, white cloud that is capable of freezing bare skin. Thus, it's advised to wear protective gloves when handling the plant. If any other Frost Princess is touched by the cloud it will release its own, such, a chain reaction can start in fields of them. Apart from that, the plant is always ice cold, never wilts, and could be of interest for alchemists.
Rarity Uncommon in Sweetvine forest/Rare everywhere else in Scalvoris.
How To Use They could be of use in alchemy because of their high durability and ice traits.

Rubrum Berry
Image
Developed by Elisabeth Angelus
Short Description Rubrum Berry plants are generally found in sandy soil environments, making them common near beaches or where sand makes up a good portion of the ground material. The stems of rubrum plants are wiry and creeping. The leaves are evergreen, oval or elliptical, and less than 0.5 inchs long. The round crimson berries are used for cooking and medicinal purposes.
Found Commonly found near beaches or where sand makes up a fair amount of the ground material. Note: In the warm sands of Faldrass, this plant grows much more quickly, producing berries as early as Ashan due to the roots and plant bodies not freezing.
Toxicity/Hazard None known
Appearance The stems of rubrum plants are wiry and creeping. The leaves are evergreen, oval or elliptical, and less than 0.5 inches long. The runners from the rubrum berry plant root themselves, propagating the plant. Runners can reach up to 6 feet long and plants can grow to 2 feet tall. Berries will be on the lower stems of the plant.
Properties Berries are used for cooking and medicinal purposes. Acidic in nature with a high nutrient and antioxidant content. Will help improved immune function and decrease blood pressure
Rarity Uncommon
How To Use Used in cooking and for medicinal purposes
Side Effects None known

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Jesine's Cup
Image
Developed by Kori'än
Short Description: A versatile but potentially dangerous fungus that has sedative and hallucinogenic proprieties.

Found: Scaltoth Jungle and Sweetwine Woods, on the damp and shadowed ground near rivers and other bodies of water.

Toxicity/Hazard: If touched or consumed without proper care, the cap causes mild rashes to appear on the skin and itchiness all over the body. Constant or incorrect use of the tea can cause serious hallucinations.

Appearance: Those six inches-tall mushrooms have flat, circular caps that can grow up to five inches in diameter, sometimes causing the white and thin stipes to bend. It's possible to tell their ripeness by their cap ― it's originally white, but gets progressively coloured black, from the borders to the center, as if being covered in ink.

Properties: The stipes have a rich, strong, and earthy flavour, impossible to mistake to those used to the taste. They can be used as a food ingredient, cooked by itself, or dried and smashed into a powder to be used as a seasoning in other dishes. When ripe, the caps can be boiled in water during half a break to create a rich, black tea that induces a long and heavy sleep with very vivid and pleasant dreams within a few bits. Because of that, it can be used to treat insomnia or other sleep problems.

Rarity: Common in Scaltoth, unusual in Sweetwine, cannot be found anywhere else.

Side Effects: Constant use of the tea for sleep purposes causes dependence, making it difficult, if not impossible, to fall asleep without the tea. After around an arc of constant usage, the body creates a resistance to the sedative proprieties of the tea, which then starts to cause vivid ― but still pleasant ― hallucinations while still awake. The effects linger in the body and, even if the tea no longer induces sleep, hallucinations may come any time during the eight breaks after consumption, often suddenly and without warning. Boiling the cap for longer than recommended can increase the hallucinogenic effects of the tea without making the sedative effects stronger. Because of that, some may end up using the tea as a hallucinogenic drug.

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Gemini Tree
Image
Short Description: Mostly known for giving the Crystal forest it’s name, Gemmi Trees are a winter tree that tends to bear gems instead of leaves. These gem trees can range, but mostly commonly they’re white opal sprouts. The seem to only grown in very cold temperatures and are known to be massive.

Found: In freezing temperature areas, though they tend to be rarer outside of Ishallr.

Toxicity/Hazard: Depends on the gem they produce, but usually its low to none. When they reach maturity the gems fall off and bloom again so those walking underfoot should be cautious.

Appearance: Gemmi Trees are very, very tall trees that produce gems instead of leaves. The gem they develop depends on the nutrients in their soil, but it’s more often it’s a common seni-precious gem (Opal, Quartz, Jade, Pearl). Rare gems are harder to find, but not impossible. The trunks come in various shades of black and gray, usually the darker ones produce lighter gemstone sand the darkers produce lights.

Properties: Depends on the gem (Opal Gemmis have a darker wood, and the branches tend to to be dark grey and sometimes black. The tree itself might take on characteristics of the gem: opacity, luminescence, etc), but the trunks are known for being very dense and strong- that said the wood is very special and can be used in a number of crafting projects. While the trees only grow to maturity in cold weather, younger sprouts can be harvested and planted elsewhere, though once the remaining gems fall they don’t regrow as the cold stimulates the trees growth. Fire resistant bark extends to the wood depending on the trees maturity- it takes a few arcs for the chemical makeup to be absorbed.

Rarity: Common-Rare

How To Use: Once the gems have fallen they can be picked up and used as any gem would be. The trunks are special wood, and require very good axes and strength to harvest.

Side Effects: Again if the gem has special properties the tree might inherit some but not enough to be worth any trouble. Labradorite Gemmis might be iridescent for example.

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Squeeosote Bush
Image
Developed by Oram Mednix
Short Description A creosote bush with a resin that produces intense euphoria.
Found Faldrass Badlands
Toxicity/Hazard See Properties.
Appearance The squeeosote bush resembles a typical creosote bush: it is a scrubby evergreen that appears in dark green clumps amid otherwise barren terrain. Its flowers, visible from late Ashan to late Ymiden, are fiery orange, instead the usual yellow. When the squeeosote is not in bloom, the only visible difference to a normal creosote is that its branches are unusually dark, sometimes nearly black.
Properties The squeeosote bush produces a resin that coats its leaves, protecting them from pests as well as keeping in moisture. The resin smells just like creosote resin and has many of the same properties: it is antiseptic and water- as well as insect-repellant, for example. Squeeosote resin, however, has one notable additional effect: it produces intense euphoria and giddiness in those who come into contact with it. This can cause the exposed to act carelessly and irrationally while under the effects, which can be dangerous in the badlands. Exposure to these effects comes most often from extensively handling the leaves, but can also result from burning squeeosote wood for firewood and inhaling the resulting fumes.
Rarity Uncommon in Faldrass Badlands, Very Rare elsewhere on Faldrass. Not found outside Faldrass.
How To Use Squeeosote resin is mainly harvested from the leaves. The resin’s effects will be more or less the same whether it is ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin, though the first two are more efficient than the last.
Side Effects The euphoria produced by squeeosote resin can cause excessive giddiness and irrational, often reckless behavior. These effects will usually last for about one break after exposure, after which they will dissipate quickly. There are no significant aftereffects (apart from possible embarrassment). When used recreationally, the resin is non-addictive.
Status Currently found only on Faldrass.
Price WT 7 in Scalvoris, 9 elsewhere in Idalos.

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Rock Moss
Image
Short Description A moss that grows exclusively on rocks, and is itself as hard as rock.
Found Only in Scaltoth Jungle. Known to grow in the Ruined Temple.
Toxicity/Hazard Practically inedible and potentially dangerous to ingest, due to its hardness. Can be quite toxic depending on which minerals it has extracted. Heavy metal poisoning is the most serious potential hazard of ingesting this moss, or interacting with it long-term.
AppearanceRock moss looks unremarkable, but touching it will reveal the moss to be as dry and hard as the stone it covers. It is quite brittle, and will shatter and crumble if handled roughly. The color varies with the minerals in the rocks the moss is growing on. Color can be a lush green (in the absence of heavy metals), gray, brown, or even bright red or yellow.
PropertiesRock moss grows exclusively on exposed surfaces of rock. In spite of appearing to be bone-dry, rock moss actually requires a similar combination of moisture and sunlight to common mosses in order to grow. It thrives in the sort of warm, humid conditions associated with the Scaltoth. The moss tends to leach metals from the stones it grows on, especially heavy metals, including precious ones. Alchemists may exploit this property to assay ores without a furnace.
Rarity Rare in Scaltoth Jungle. Not known to live elsewhere. Not currently collected commercially.
How To Use Extracting a live sample requires leaving it attached to some substrate rock. The moss in this state can be transplanted and placed with other rock, onto which it will spread quickly under favorable conditions. If allowed to grow over a sample containing a heavy metal, be it lead, arsenic, or gold, the moss will leach the metal and concentrate it on the surface, making it easy to extract and identify.
Side Effects
Status Able to be foraged in northern part of Scaltoth Jungle, especially in and around the Ruined Temple.
Price Not currently for sale.

Re: [Scalvoris] Flora

Whispering Serenity
Image
Developed by Ari'sora
Name: Whispering Serenity
Found: Only on Serenity Island
Toxicity/Hazard: Only if exposed to the pollen for three trials or longer. People who are exposed to the pollen for three trials by inhaling it start having trouble staying awake for more than a break or two at a time. If they stay on the island for five trials once the symptoms of having trouble staying awake start, they will fall into a deep sleep that they cannot be awakened from even if they are taken from the island. This sleep lasts for 30-50 trials. Then they wake up, but they will face another 5 trials of finding it very hard to stay awake for more than a break at a time. Once they recover from this, they are back to normal, and the pollen has been completely purged from their system.
Appearance: Clusters of tiny purple flowers growing on tall, thin stalks. These flowers can reach a height of up to 3' tall.
Properties: Their sweet scent has a calming effect on people.
Other Information: These flowers have a wide variety of alchemic properties involving their abilities so soothe/calm people with their scent and their ability to put people to sleep. They also have medicinal purposes involving those same qualities. They get their name because when the wind blows through the grass that surrounds them, it produces a soothing, almost musical sound. They are found naturally only on Serenity Island, but they can be transplanted and grown in gardens if one has the right climate (a green house or a Scalvoris like climate) and enough skill. Also, once it is dried, the pollen from the flowers can't affect you but the scent is still soothing (if less effective), and it makes a delicious, calming tea.

The amount of time it takes for the pollen to build up in the person breathing it in varies depending on how many flowers they are exposed to. So while the effects of the pollen are not stronger on the island than they would be anywhere else, it will take longer for the symptoms to kick in if one is growing these flowers in a garden or a greenhouse; more flowers means more pollen to breathe in, and for that reason, the effect is stronger. If you have a greenhouse or garden full of the flowers, the initial symptom take ten trials to manifest, in twenty if you only have a few of the flowers, and in thirty five if you only have one flower. And the permanent sleep would happen ten trials after the first symptom starts with a greenhouse or garden full of the flowers, seven trials after the first symptom starts, thirteen trials after the initial symptom if dealing with a small number of the flowers, and forty trials after the initial symptom if dealing with a single flower.

It is also worth noting that the pollen will linger in a person's system for up to thirty trials, so once the first symptom starts, it is recommended that you avoid contact with these flowers for a full thirty trials to be certain that the pollen built up in your system will have enough time to disperse.
