Wiki Update
There has been a small update to the placeholders page on the wiki.

The key change is that now, when you place a placeholder, you need to provide a thematic title. This is to avoid the forum getting bogged down by thread titles like "Placeholder 1" and "Placeholder 2" in the lead up to cycle change. It may also help you to remember what the thread is intended to be about when you pick it up to start writing later on.

As is noted on the wiki, the title does not need to be set in stone - you can always amend it up until the point of submitting the thread for review - but it must fit the Standing Trials theme.

If you have any queries about this change or anything else related to Standing Trials, please submit them in the Questions & Answers forum.

Hot Cycle: Arc 721

Welcome to the Hot Cycle 721. Every Cycle in Standing Trials runs over four real life months and has two in-character seasons. The Hot Cycle has Ymiden (83 Trials) and then Saun (40 Trials) which are open for you to play. All new threads from June 1st 2021 - September 30th 2021 should be timestamped within one of those two seasons.

Please see Timekeeping for more information and reach out to a member of staff if you're confused!

This announcement includes information on:
- Dates & Seasons
- Global Event
- The Settlement Systems
- Open and Closed Cities.

Dates & Seasons

We're rolling into the new Cycle. The Hot Cycle marks the summer season of the Arc, and begins with the season of Ymiden.
Image
Ymiden is known for its hot, summer weather and strong hurricanes. Though this season isn't as unbearable as Saun, Ymiden provides more cloudless days than cloudy. Astronomers cherish this season for its clear skies, giving way to cool nights full of stars and moonlight. Ymiden is also the season where most festivals take place. Crops planted during Ashan will be harvested before the middle of Ymiden, allowing for enormous feasts, plenty of drink, and an unlimited supply of entertainment.

Ymiden lasts for a total of 83 trials (days). During this time, temperatures remain moderate while oceans and any other body of water become warm enough to swim in. The storms that occur throughout this season can be severe, ranging from hurricanes, typhoons, tornadoes, and monsoons. However, each region will experience the effects of this seasons differently.
Image
As Ymiden closes out, Saun begins, bringing with it another sun. Saun is known as the hottest season in Idalos with high temperatures that can become unbearable to work in. During this season, night time provides a small relief to the heat and though the temperatures aren't so excruciatingly hot, exposure to the sun without proper water and shade as well as rest can be fatal.

Saun lasts a total of 40 trials (days). It is recommended during this time to keep a close eye on all children, livestock, and crops. Because of the heat, water will need to be readily available and distributed frequently, as to avoid potential stroke or loss of life from overheating. Any storms experienced during this season are much more powerful than those produced during Ymiden.

All active threads from the Rebirth Cycle of 721 are now grandfathered. New threads must be timestamped as Ymiden or Saun 721 or be a Memory thread, if applicable. If your PC lists their age in their CS and has a birthday this cycle, be sure to update their age.

Global Event!
We're also running a new Global Event this cycle. The sign up for Ruin's Dawn is here and we hope to see all our players join!

The Settlement System
Huge thanks to Trouble who has worked really hard to create a new "Settlement System" for us. This will allow players to develop their own settlements, IC. We've tested it on two settlements so far, and we're planning on launching it site-wide on 1st July (ish).

Trouble is going to continue to be in charge of this system overall, but city mods will be the lead mods for settlements in their cities. If you're thinking that you might like to have your PC start a settlement, please PM your city mod and copy Trouble in to it. Give just a little bit of detail - we're just wanting to get some idea of numbers for when we go live!

Thanks!

Hello people,

We've gone in and made edits to Rupturing, specifically the ability of Scrying. Previously an entire aspect of scrying was limited to those who also took attunement. We've changed the ability to scry people and objects to be available to master rupturers, rather than requiring people to take attunement in order to complete the ability. The change can be found here: wiki/index.php?title=Category:Rupturing#Scrying
Scrying - some would say - is a much more advanced form of Phasing. Scrying allows one to project a portal to view and observe an object, person or place. One can learn to mark an area as lore, such as a specific room, street corner, or alleyway and with concentration, open a small portal to the area. This practice is known as scrying which grows far more potent when a mage has achieved mastery of Rupturing and can mark the people they meet or objects they find, allowing small 'view/speak only' portals to open around the marked in order to spy on their movements.

There is no distance unattainable at this level, so long as the mage has been there before and memorized the ether signature of the area. In this way, it breaks the usual distance allowed to a Rupturer. However, these portals are small and not capable of sustaining a stable passage between two locations. Due to the immense distance, these portals can only be viewed or spoken through. Attempting to pass items through them will instantly collapse the portal, rending the object passing through into bits. Scrying portals make little sound when opening, like a whisper, likely due to the weakness of the passage.
Also Sojourn has been changed slightly. It was previously as follows:
Staying longer than a single Arc in any one city will impart a thorough sense of lethargy and sap the health of the Sojourner until they have finally moved on. They must be away from the location longer than they stayed in order to build a tolerance once more.
We've made the change to this:
Sojourners tend to be adventurers, thrill seekers and wanderers.
1. Most importantly - the first one takes away player agency. It stops people from playing their Sojourner their way. Cassion isn't going to mark someone who doesn't meet his Domains - nor will they progress. Marks should not dictate behaviour in that way - it's up to the player to interpret.

2. We have limited places open - and a PC story might entail them staying somewhere because of a great adventure there. They should be free to do that.

Thank you for your attention and as ever, if there are questions please let us know on the Q&A forum.

Skills Scale Down
We are delighted to announce the Skills Scale Down of 2021!

After a LOT of work by the volunteer team - and with a massive thanks for everyone involved, I'm delighted to say that we have significantly reduced the number of skills we have.

What? How does it impact me?!?
The very short answer here is that your PC is as good as they were at their existing skills - and you'll possibly get some extra XP from "dropped" skills.

There's a longer answer and a how-to here!

There's also a Q & A thread here

YouTube
So, Standing Trials has a YouTube, and we're trying to figure out what do with it, precisely. So we figured we'd ask y'all's opinion, as your the ones we'd be making the content for. Let us know what you'd like to see on the YouTube by sending me a PM, and we'll discuss it and figure out what to do with the YouTube from there.

Settlement System Update

Good evening all you fine folks!

It had to be a little delayed due to some kinks and complications that emerged during its trial, but I'm happy to announce that this time next week (Sunday the 25th) the settlement system will be formally launched! Players all across the board will have the opportunity to create and grow a settlement of their own, allowing your characters to take on the roles leaders, chieftains and monarchs. So if you've ever aspired to build a city of your own imagining here in Standing Trials the wait is nearly over.

See you next week.

Regards,
Trouble

Settlement System Update

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have lift-off! I am immeasurably pleased to announce that the settlement system is officially open to the public!

You can read through the guide here to get a feel for what the system is all about, and if you have any questions let me know in the Q&A forum. You can also take a look at the status of our test settlements, Haven and Hopetoun, to see an example of how it works.

If you like the look of everything and fancy setting up a settlement of your own, contact myself and the lead mods of the area you're planning to create it in with the relevant details (outlined in the guide) and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Have a lovely day!

Regards,
Trouble

Re: News & New Features!

Prophet Support Forum!
Hello all!

As per this post - following volunteer discussion and vote, the following has been added to the PSF guidelines.
Additional Guidelines for the Prophet Support Desk
The following has been added to the guidelines:

When posting to the PSF, please consider the volunteers who deal with each ticket. Therefore, we ask that all players keep their tickets reasonable in length and not dealing with multiple issues. Examples of what might go into one ticket would include:
  • retiring and / or unretiring a pc
  • magic mutations (one ticket per level, please - please note that witchmark, theme and persona can either be one ticket or with competent mutation(s) )
  • no more than 3 NPCs
  • multiple small or medium renown rewards - these may be included with up to one large+ renown reward
  • one mortalborn application
  • one mark progression application (this may link several threads, but please be mindful of not dropping 20 threads to read in one ticket)
  • one signature item
Basically, please adhere to the rules of common courtesy when posting to the PSF. While you may only get a one-line "approved" reply, each ticket takes time and by keeping things reasonable, this helps us to help you.

Please note - if you are posting a query, that should be on its own in one ticket. So if, for example, you have a query about pricing for a small renown reward - that should be a ticket unto itself. We ask this because sometimes (not often, but sometimes) a simple query can get quite complex.
Thank you all for your understanding!
