The caravans clunked at its first stop of the day. Though the colors of the horse drawn vehicles were faded there were still some shapes of green that stood out very vibrantly from the dusty colors. Two guards accompanied the caravan and helped the passengers off one by one. They were paid by the trip so while they did not have to assist they still did so. The guards had hard looks on their faces and weapons they would happily use to kill any creatures that threatened the caravans during its journey. They had every reason to be relaxed in town, but they had to keep up appearances.
The last one to exit was an old woman. Her hair was white and she carried a covered basket. On the outside the basket looked like it contained something very full of lumps. The cover was an odd whiteish color, something that had been discolored by some form of alchemy. As if these things were not enough to make her stand out her clothing and tattoos would surely tell all that she hailed from very far away.
She drew many looks as she walked though her journey was rather brief. She knocked three times on Goku’s home’s door and pushed the door open when she heard movement inside.
Goku was, thankfully, dressed at the time, all aside from boots which had leaned against the door and then skidded across the floor once the door had been opened.
“Who are you?” Goku asked. There was concern in his voice and actions which would be obvious when he grabbed his sword off the table. He followed up with, “why are you here?”
The woman rolled her eyes as if she were bored out of her mind. “I am but a simple delivery woman.” She reached into her basket and pulled out a necklace that was tied together with a ribbon. She handed it to Goku and then reached in again until she found the right letter. She handed that over as well. “I’m sure the letter will explain things further. I’ll be on my way, I have other matters to attend to.”
The woman left and Goku stood there in shock wondering whether or not he could believe what had just happened. He did not know of anyone that might want to deliver something to him in this manner. He took a seat not bothering to close his door for the time being so he could inspect the letter further.
“To Goku” the outside of the letter read. When unfolded he found a note from one of his distant relatives, an aunt that he had never met. They had a to him from his mother’s side and the letter explained that the jewelry had once been his mother’s. The aunt believed she would pass soon and decided that it’d be best if Goku kept it. It was a golden thing with a heart that said “love” on it. Goku’s eyes widened when the letter explained that it was enchanted. The letter claimed that if he said the word Love while wearing it, people around him would believe whatever he said.
“This is… something alright,” he thought as he put the jewelry down on his table and rubbed his eyes. They were teary because he would have loved to know his mother better. He did not feel like he particularly deserved a gift like this or had any use for it. He was not a jewelry type of person. Doing laborious work with jewelry on did not ever seem like a good idea to him.
Goku picked up the necklace again and examined it closely. It was rather plain in his eyes so anyone trying to appraise it of value would likely find that it was worth little more than the material put into it. “What about that enchantment. Am I really supposed to believe that it works as described? Dare I even risk trying it? What if I inadvertently hurt someone with the spell? Magic is dangerous, I know that as much as the next guy.”
Goku wouldn’t be brave enough to try out the enchantment today but he would put it on nonetheless. He had somewhere to be today and he was already late from all this new information. He had a fight to get to! Not that he wanted to, but he had been challenged after sleeping with someone’s wife unknowing that she was even married. If he was better with words he would have talked his way out of the fight. If only things were that simple when it came to Goku.
The proving grounds were as busy as ever when Goku arrived. People training here and there, sparring matches, arrows flying, it was well organized mayhem. Goku had to look around for the man he was supposed to fight. The man had a forgettable face so he didn’t have much to go off of.
It wasn’t until someone called, “I’m over here you idiot,” that Goku turned to see his opponent. Goku was then met with a push to the side that sent him tumbling to the ground.
“What in the…” the winged hybrid asked but he was quickly kicked in the stomach.
“Hold on, this is hardly fair!” Goku shouted and the beating stopped momentarily. Goku rolled as best he could a few times and stumbled to his feet. He was up against someone who was better at fisticuffs than he was but Goku was stronger for sure. He was someone who performed labor for a living, that counted for something.
The businessman sneered. He held up his fists and asked, “You ready yet? Or did you want to take a break with my wife before we continue?”
“Bring it on!” Goku shouted. He started throwing wild punches that had no rhyme or reason to them. His punches were easily dodged by simply backstepping them and when Goku tired he was punched a few more times. Goku tried dodging a few times but he didn’t have the agility necessary to evade anything in such a close quarters fight.
Goku’s superior endurance and strength made it so he could take the beatings for a while but after missing every single punch and lunge Goku quickly realized that he was outmatched. The only opening he got was when he accidentally let his wings spread wide which made the businessman shield his face. Goku used that chance to shove his shoulder into the enemy’s gut which was rightfully painful but it was the only hit he landed for the whole fight. It wouldn’t be until later that Goku would find out that he’d bruised his shoulder from the misapplied force as well to add insult to injury.
Out of nowhere Goku felt a hand on his chest that pushed him gently away. He looked up to see the woman he’d slept with. “Has she been spectating us this whole time?” Goku thought, “is this all part of her sick game? Getting people to sleep with her and then watching the ensuing fight? That’s a new low for humanity.”
The businessman shouted “I’ll get him for what he did to you!” much to the woman’s satisfaction.
“If this is some sort of game to you count me out,” Goku said to the both of them. He spread his wings, took a running start, and flew high up into the air before the fight could continue any more. He looked over his shoulder at the smugly smiling succubus of a woman who he remembered bittersweetly. “A woman like that is best keeping away from no matter how good the loving was,” Goku decided. Truth was, he’d love another go with her but not if it meant he would get his butt kicked for it.
Goku landed right outside of town where there were traders congregating. There were travelers there as well who were keen on getting the best gossip from elsewhere. Their smiles were almost feral looking in Goku’s opinion. Goku thought he was getting away from craziness but he must have landed in the wrong spot. He briskly walked away from town so he could clear his head and determine what he had to do to solve this problem he had before he got challenged to yet another fight.
“You know you could just get better at fighting. If you could throw a solid punch you might deter people from even challenging you for sleeping with their wives,” the voice inside his head told him.
“You’ve got a point there. But let’s see. I’ve never been any good at fighting.” He finally remembered that he was wearing that necklace that he’d been given earlier in the day. The only thing that would make him better would be knowing that the necklace actually worked. “But how will I actually figure out if it works or not? Who shall play the victim?” That thought got him thinking and plotting enough to forget all about his adultery woes, for a time.
