Scalvoris Town Council Hall

The Scalvoris Town Council Hall rests in the newly renovated home of a late resident of the town that left the building to the city after their death. As such, the sizable building is quite cozy in appearance despite its use in government affairs. The brick exterior is rather rustic, sporting an enormous amount of deep green ivy that decorates the vast majority of the walls and covers several windows. The council hall is two full stories along with a sizable attic. All of the flooring and walls still bear a hint of age to them, even though there has been a considerable effort to restore them. It is unmistakable to all that enter the council hall that the building still bears an imprint of its previous occupants. Superstitious folk have even claimed that the building may be haunted. From strange creaking on the stairs, to the murmur of distant conversations in empty corridors, even the most rational of individuals will feel a prickle on the back of their necks from time to time.
As for the layout, the first floor contains the receptionist’s desk in the center of a spacious lobby containing an assortment of mismatched tables and chairs for guests. An impressive bay window allows copious amounts of natural light into the lobby, eliminating the need for lanterns during brighter breaks of the trial. Beyond the lobby are an assortment of small offices on the ground floor that serve the multitude of clerks, messengers, and other support staff that serve at the behest of the council.
Just to the right of the receptionist’s desk lies a well-worn oaken stairwell that leads to the second floor. Upstairs are the individual offices of the council members along with a sizable conference room. Similar to the lobby, the conference room contains an imposing window that provides occupants with plenty of light that negates the use of oil lamps until after dusk. The individual offices of the council members are modest but well kept, containing a single window, small fireplace, and of course a desk. There is additionally a nook in the corner of the offices that can be used to house a cot if there is a need to work late.
The attic itself is a bit of a mystery, while it contains storage for the council hall there are also numerous items that belonged to previous residents. Most occupants avoid venturing into the attic unless it is absolutely necessary, as the strange activity in the building seems most intense in this area. Items will disappear and reappear at random when no one is looking. Perhaps most startling is the story of one poor clerk that claimed to have been lost in the attic for several breaks when the door vanished from sight after they entered before reappearing again near sundown.
Although beautiful and well suited to the needs of the council, this timeworn place is full of stories and secrets that are waiting to be discovered.
