Business as usual, dreams of

Frigid cold coupled with a slight breeze made for a very cold Abra. He took his steps slowly and wished for the summer to return again. He was dreaming but still the dream was cold. He had half a mind to change the environment entirely, but then he’d be too hot wearing all these clothes and he’d have to pick what to wear. It was a classic case of being too lazy to make things better for himself. “What I need is a dreamwalking assistant to take care of all the menial tasks.” He thought of even making one, but he didn’t think he was able to grant his powers to others. He could conceivably make a super powered being with the goal of protecting him from harm. “No, I’d probably end up dead if I did that.”

He was understandably tired of having lucid dreams in his own dreamscape and being too worried about rocking the boat in other dream scapes. He was torn between causing trouble and getting recognized and just being peaceful. “Not every dream has to be a grand adventure,” he tried to tell himself, “why don’t you do something productive, like work on your bank idea.” The productive angel on his shoulder was guiding him towards the light but the slob on his other shoulder had other ideas. “Just relax and spend a day exploring the dream. Look at that place, it looks neat. Go in there.”

Abra turned his head to a large industrial building and decided to side with the slob. As soon as he entered his mind was bombarded with a telepathic image. The scene starts off with not our leading Abra but, with a memory of some sort that played out in his head. He saw that this company was about mutating people in strange ways. It portrays the growth of a Human, evolutionary wise. Starting off with a regular monkey walking. It hops and makes it’s species call as it slowly transform into a newborn baby crying. The baby turns into an infant slightly older and the infant turns into a preteen and teen into an adult. The adult slows down as it gets old then lies down on the ground before the Human dies.

When the strange vision ended, Abra was finally able to see again. Across the room stood a man in a white lab coat. He spoke, “Evolution… it is fabled that we as mortals will cease to evolve but, We at Evo Corp don’t believe in what scientists call the inevitable but the possible. Instead of evolving we must transmigrate into a new fashion and that fashion will depend on the men and women you will now see before you…”

Abra was subjected to another vision as the scene switches from the white background to a group of men and women, dressed in camouflage with weapons and firm at attention. The varied in sizes and races as they were from all over. It then shows them break away as several scenes are shown of academics, physical training, money being given and an overall better life. “Before you speak, this is not the a military force but something of my own creation. Unlike the military you can get out without any repercussions whenever you want, no contract, no binding your life and I guarantee you won’t be cleaning toilets after another adult but, you will have the freedom to choose, the freedom to evolve but most of all… The Freedom to Fight. Come join us, in our fight for pride, our fight for existence but our fight for freedom…”

Abra understandably had no idea what this guy was on about. “I don’t think I want to join your cause,” Abra said with total honesty. “Do tell, how you are putting these images in my head. Are you a magician?” He had never seen a figment of his dreamscape use magic before. There was always the chance that the man in the coat was an Emeyan creature of some sort.

“You don’t have to be a soldier, you can be a leader. There’s no need for someone of intellect like us to risk life and death. Or maybe you don’t want to join. Are you here to purchase some soldiers?” The egg head pulled out a notebook and got ready to write down an order.

“Sure,” Abra said. He could create money on the spot if he needed it. Anything to get this guy off his back. “I’ll have a uh, legion of soldiers. And I need them by, next arc. How’s that.” He noticed how the man took notes on his order. It wasn’t a bad idea to take notes on a customer’s order so that it couldn’t possibly get messed up.

“Actually, could you get those to me by next cycle?” Abra wanted to push this oddball’s buttons a little.

“Very good very good, I can do that, anything to keep my fine customer happy.”

“What if I wanted them sooner? Could you do it in say, several trials?” Abra pushed harder.

“Oh, while I do take a point to never argue with my customers, I must say that I need more time than that. The supply and demand of the slave trade is such that I can’t procure enough in time. Even mortal bodies have an availability limit.”

“Okay then,” Abra said. He produced a large sack of coins and tossed it to the man then walked out of the building. “He took notes and did his best to keep me happy, at least I learned a couple things about customer service.”

The dreamwalker looked around again, wondering what he should do now. He pictured a bank in his mind and created it, completely obliterating one of the neighboring buildings. It was the bank just as he always wanted it to be. He didn’t have any reason to create it, he just liked to see it in person. He walked up the gold plated steps and got behind the teller’s desk just to imagine what it would be like to finally have created something from the depths of his desires.

“I’d like to open an account with you,” said his first customer. People were suddenly materializing into the bank, he didn’t even have to create them.

“Okay,” he said while getting out an official record book. He jotted the person’s name down and helped the next person create an account. Each one gave him an enormous sum of money and for the first time in his life he felt rich. He never even had to argue with any of them about how the money would be used or anything of the sort. Soon all the people were served and they left him to count the piles and piles of money he had now.

Abra would be minding his own business when he heard a knock on the bank door. Ugh, who could that possibly be. However, his sourness was unjust as it was simply a package that had arrived. It was, unsurprisingly, even more money with a note attached telling him that they wanted to open an account. In addition to the cash and note, they included a book.

The book was old and dusty but it was titled “Animal Almanac.” Abra curiously opened it and took a seat. It had many pictures and quick facts about the area. He saw the most common animals of the region including the bear which was something that he had always wanted to see in person. He would read on and see that these things could grow to be ten feet tall which was absurd! Perhaps he would have to get out into the wilderness more often.

On the next page he would see a beautiful swan. He spent a good five minutes simply staring at the amazing creature and taking in its every detail. He then read a few of the notes to learn about how docile they were. Apparently these things would choose to run rather than fight! Abra could relate to these creatures so much! However, it was time to move onto the next animal; the wild dog. “Geeze they really put all the basics in here.” he had been hoping for some unique animals but perhaps he couldn’t expect much from a ‘common animals’ almanac.

In any case, the wild dog was very similar to a wolf. However, the key difference was that wild dogs generally hunted for sport and could deplete the wildlife quickly if not dealt with by humans. Perhaps he herself could see if there was a wild dog problem he could fix around town? The last animal he came across for the day would be the eagle which had an entire page dedicated to how they liked to powerfully slash and peck at their prey. “Well that’s a little brutal.” With all the knowledge he needed in hand, Abra put the almanac away and finally felt the tug that meant that he was waking up.

Comments: I was amused by Abra being too lazy to change his environment and the angel and the slob telling him what he should do, and I agree that a dreamwalking assistant would be useful!

The dream he explored was quite interesting. I think Abra’s the first PC that has a bank in his dream!

This was a fun thread. Great job! Please enjoy your rewards!
