Spring Banquet
Spring Banquet
Desnind is alive with activity, glorious smells, and happiness. The main hub of the celebration takes place at the Hunters' Fire Pits, where large animals are spinning on spits over the fire, pots are bubbling with venison stews, and sticks of chocolate ants are handed to the children by Teyga. Many stores are closed this day, but craftsmen have set up blankets with specific wares to advertise their wares and store. Food vendors seem to be the highlight of the day, as they are handing out samples as part of the celebration. Flower vendors are also present, giving women a small flower to celebrate the day. With so much going on at the heart of the celebration, it is a small wonder to find another location bustling with activity as well.
Located on either side of Moseke's temple are two identical obstacle courses. Athletes are constantly running the course throughout the day, both as part of the competition and for fun. For those at participating in the competition, they let an individual timer know who will mark the bits as they run the course. Others who are simply interested in running the course for fun just head into the course. They do avoid competitors to allow them the best opportunity against time.
The obstacle course is made of 3 difficult obstacles. The first is classified as the "web," to symbolize the struggles that the Sevir had to overcome after Lisirra's plague. It is a large 20 x 20 foot wooden box with thing ropes stretched between the wood frame. It starts out easier, with large holes to crawl through. As the competitor progresses through the frame, the strings get closer together, making it more difficult to find an appropriately sized hole to crawl through. Strands of loose rope also hang down towards the end, with intent to ensnare a competitor and tie them up for a brief moment.
The next obstacle is a large balance beam. It zigzags back and forth. The width of each beam barely fits an average man's foot. Smaller feet may have an easier time cross the stable beams. An inclined beam leads up to three, 6-foot long beams that go from left to right and back again. The fourth beam is held up by two chains, allowing the beam to swing side to side. This is a common issue for all competitors. If someone falls off, they must start this obstacle over again. There is one more stable beam beyond the swinging beam, and then an inclined beam down to complete the obstacle.
The last obstacle is a 12 foot rope ladder. Once competitors climb up to the platform above, they are expected to take one of two paths to get to the platform on the other side of an 12 foot gap. The first is using sheer strength to climb across the monkey bars. Eight bars at 1 foot apart are available for gripping. A mild swing and a jump is needed to get on and off the bars. The other option are a series of 4 platforms. They are mildly unstable as they are suspended on ropes and designed to move and wiggle with the wind and weight of competitors. These four platforms are 3 feet apart and spaced in a offset pattern with two on the left and two on the right. The offset distance is about a foot, making the diagonal distance approximately 3.5 feet. Once across to the other platform, the competitor is expected to repel down the wall using the rope and run a short 15 foot distance to the finish line.
Competitors are welcome to cheer each other one, watch the competition, and enjoy the expertly cooked meals at the Hunters' Fire Pit.

OOC Information
Let the first Desnind event begin! Since this is a obstacle course/race, I will be doing individual grades for each competitor before letting the competitors know who the winner is. There are some things to take note of before you start writing:
- 1. The obstacle course is defined above. Please consider all skills that may be needed for this course and take into consideration what your character may or may not have.
2. Post an individual thread with Obstacle Course: "PC Name". This thread should be a minimum of 4 posts (One introductory post, and one post per obstacle) and no more than 7 posts (One introductory post, and two posts per obstacle).
3. This current thread is used for all other socialization at the celebration. Eating, talking, etc. I highly encourage you to post here if you will be a competitor. It doesn't have to be long, but it would help increase the family feel of the city.
4. PM me with your completed thread by the end of June to be considered as a competitor and eligible for any rewards and/or recognition. This thread will close at the end of June when I have posted the results.
5. Posts in this thread will not be graded. It is strictly socializing and getting to know one another. I may individually grant knowledges about other PCs.
6. If you want to write your obstacle course thread with another PC, double the minimum and maximum post count. You will individually be graded, but this will allow for more interaction if so desired.
- 1. Consider your PCs skills and skill levels.
2. Make it hard for them. No PC here is an immortal and should be able to waltz across the obstacle course. Have accidents and 'ooopses'. It happens.
3. I will grade based on quality of your writing and how you portrayed your PC doing this. Did they have fun? Did they really think they were going to win? Did they find it difficult and/or challenging? Was anyone cheering them on?
4. Have fun! Know that someone will get a special prize but everyone gets skill points and knowledges out of it! Everyone gets something so don't stress out about there being bonuses at the end
