The girl, all but catatonic at this stage, didn't seem to notice as Rorom descended upon her to envelope her in his arms. It was only the tattoo upon his arm that brought her around from her sorrow, as clear and sharp as it was. On seeing the tatoo and hearing the words, she pressed herself into his hip, still clutching bits of the gruesome totem remnants as they went.

Travis nodded and made his way over to the flustered dignitary, whome on his arrival began to lay into him with commands and berratements. He opened his mouth as if to protest, but thought far better of it as the repercussions for such weighed in his mind. Instead, he simply nodded and replied. "Of course, my apologies, me-lo..."

During this exchange, the girl and Rorom made it to the mouth of the cave with little to no difficulty and, as the two still in the cave made about their conversation, the survivalist let loose a gust of air. With such little preparation, the wind was not severe, but the trial was one of much haste for the air around them already and it needed very little persuasion to whip up into a short frenzy. As the ranger gave a slight, apologetic, bow to the recovering noble, the gust of wind hit him, sending him stumbling towards Virikai. It was all he could do to avoid knocking him over and as their attention turned once again to the mouth of the cave,
Rorom was gone as his back was seen only as a glimpse disappearing into the while-out of the snow and wind

Rorom

A competent tracker would find tracking Rorom in this snow easy for a break, harder after a few breaks and impossible thereafter
as he left long divots in the white fluff around them
, but as he reached his boat, anyone following him would find it impossible to track his further as he stole away into the salty waters, the girl still huddled into the warmth of his chest. He might realise the weight of the choice he had made that trial should he ever return to Viden without caution. But until then, a great many secret would be held within the girl as she gradually recovered from her harrowing ordeal.

Virikai Talius

With that, the Ranger made further apologies and as the two of them became aware that Rorom was not just waiting outside the cave with the girl and was in fact gone, the Ranger set about trying to get Virikai back to home.

Travis was clear on one thing, staying out here, by himself with a man as poorly suited to the cold and well suited to get him fired was the worst idea in Idalos and under the guise of getting him back safe and news of events as they understood them, which was, to be fair, not at all, they set off back to report in that the girl was found, but further carried away into the unknown by Rorom himself.

The ranger was not clear on the specifics of what had happened, but in describing the events to those back at base, there were knowing glances shared and thanks given to the Lord for his selfless attempts to rectify the problem. If Virikai was inclined to care,
it would be apparent to him that there was more going on here than met the eye as events were 'wrapped up' and excuses made to move people along
. The people in charge seemed a little too eager to close the affair, now knowing that the girl had moved on, however, for anyone not caring or inclined to notice, it might come off as a conscientious need to get people out of the cold.

The word was spread that the girl had been found and that trial won... Whether the truth of this was the case or not.

Appearance

When standing at his full height, Winston towers a full 1 foot and one blueberry tall. A fact he will happily demonstrate before flicking said blue orb into the air with his nose and then eating it with a snappy grin.

His eyes are dark and sharp, ringed by dark brown fur upon the bright white fur that sets off across the rest of his face.

Equipement

Winston usually carries the following on his person:
  • Cassion's Locket hangs snugly around his neck.
  • Winston's Fairy Bell hangs from his tool-belt attached to his hip. It's 'ringer' is often bound by a small piece of cloth to prevent it giving away his position while in the wilderness.

Virikai is a great character and to stick true to his nature throughout this thread. I liked reading his involvement at every stage of this thread and seeing how his sense of self-preservation presented in opposition to the task(s) at hand.

Loot

  • Good Quality Wilderness Survival Supplies that they are issued and allowed to keep.
  • Ancient Fire Wood - Covered in intricate carvings, this cylindrical block of wood will ignite when the holder of the wood concentrates on 'warming thoughts' for a moment. It will not (and cannot) burn the one that activated it, but to all others is a fiercely burning lump of wood like any other.

    While lit, it will give off the warmth of a well maintained campfire, able to be used for cooking or warming as per a modest campfire might normally be normally.

    It will set alight other flammable objects and can be deactivated by the touch of the one that activated it, or by being fully submerged in water for a moment.

    It never burns out and will burn for as long as desired, even bursting back into flame when wet (as long as not still fully submerged).

    When not active, it is always cool to the touch and can be stored without concern.

Consequences

  • Virikai Talius is painted the hero of this affair. Having braved the colds of the wild and ventured 'out of office' into the unforgiving wilderness and returning triumphant. he would know that the success of the mission was questionable, but apparently the authorities were eager to compliment him on his work and distract him and other with renown and acclaim.

    Plot Starter: Secrest are here to be explored should you wish, otherwise, it becomes yet another page in the history of Virikai's life around Viden.
  • As a result of the acclaim he gets from this, he can 'cash in' one favour with the Viden authorities should he ever have the need.

Rorom is such a silent hero. Doing good because good should be done and not to achieve some further goal. I love it!

You played out his skills and opinions very well and consistently throughout the thread. I found the way he painted his investigation and conclusions to be very natural and well written. Nice work.

I hope he and the girl find a place to be together. Certainly she will follow him like a wisened protector if he wants it.

    You can upgrade the NPC with PB during Dev if you wish (remember she's a child though).

    The girl (name to be decided during Dev, at your discretion) is willing and eager to remain with Rorom. While you have the freedom to craft her backstory, please stick to the following outline:
    • Age: Under 11 arcs (assumed to be quite young indeed in this thread, but that's flexible)
    • Has Competent Becoming.
    • Has lost their Totem and will need a new one.
    • The facts of her upbringing are something you can thread out, though she was hunted due to her unexpected and natural talent in Becoming, which she gained in the womb when her mother was initiated while unknowingly being pregnant.
    • Her experience in Bocomming is 'untrained' and 'self-guided' by her spark, which was damaged during the events of this thread and will take a little time to return to full strength.
    • Unless Rorom deliberately investigates, no family will come forward to claim the child (reasons unknown).
    • There are plenty of secrest to discover about the rest of this child's history and the situation in Viden.

Consequences

  • Having used magic and absconded with the girl, the Viden authorities put out warrants for Rorom's capture. There is an odd secrecy about the affair that casts a cloak of clandestine nature over the warrant, but if not careful, Rorom will find himself being arrested by the Viden authorities during his next visit. :-o

    The girl's description is also put out for capture, but oddly, no name is put to the girl as she is warranted as an unnamed person of interest, using description alone to try and acquire her.
