The Creation of Augiery
[/anchor]
The pleasant town of Garaia is the long dead village that stood in the same spot as Augiery with one key difference; Garaia had been above ground where Augiery was below it. Garaia had been decimated when the earth split open in the early stages of the Immortal War, guzzling the village and many female inhabitants with it. Those that managed to avoid an early grave suffered dehydration and starvation until Audrae found them. It is here that the story of Augiery truly begins.

When Treid intervened with her plans by making the three moons of Idalos, Audrae and her Naerikk disciples descended into the caverns in arc 175 AV. The secret entrance that dives from the ancient ruins of Garaia has been protected since the Descent. This back entrance leads directly into the cavern that houses the great city of Augiery. Built directly into the stone column that holds the cavern up, this city has been a safe haven for Naer that wish to understand their shadowy heritage. Audrae has enchanted a large portion of the city to allow her people to walk safely in the light. The Underhive, an area of the city in perpetual darkness, remain disenchanted for those that wish to frolic in their truest form.

For many years, Audrae and the Naerikk lived in secrecy. Idalos forgot about their need to feed in darkness. They had become nothing but stories to scare children and focuses of nightmares. It was not until arc 365 AV that the ancient city was once again discovered.

The Southern Region was slowly becoming a safe haven for pirates. Troves of treasure lined the coast. The lands were practically barren of inhabitants, making it safe to bury prizes and gold. One particular captain and his crew managed to find themselves in the cove that would one day become the coastal town of Sarraski. Captain Vintrov Westrite docked the Pelagian in this cavern. This was the first and last time the Pelagian would dock here. She has since become a permanent part of Sarraski.

Captain Westrite docked the Pelagian out of sight behind a great column of rock. The ocean tapered into a river that wove through the rock formations and flows deeper into the cave. There were two reasons that the crew followed Captain Westrite blindly into the cavern: curiosity and to know where the treasure was buried. With their treasure strapped to their back and carried in heavy chests, they traveled deep into the shadows unaware that they were being watched.

Westrite and the Pelagian’s crew discovered Augiery after several breaks of walking. A path had not yet been constructed from the coast to the underground city. The rocky labyrinth made Augiery’s recovery difficult. Yet, when they found it, Westrite and his crew were in awe.

Before them stood the young city, built directly into a central column of the cavern. How long it had taken to create the column itself was one thing; it was another to imagine the women carving the buildings from the stone. The men entered the city, amazed to find a cohort of women more beautiful than many they had seen on their travels. They elected to claim this city as theirs, as most men would have attempted to do.

The Naerikk permitted the men to believe that they were in control. They served them strange fungus and meats. The women danced and entertained them around the fires. Wine was plentiful. Two trials went by like this. Westrite and his crew had little desire to return to the Pelagian when paradise was all around them.

On the third night, with the men drunk or asleep, the fires were doused and the real work began. The Naer were tired of building their city. They also required new blood. So, the crew was placed in chains. By morning, the men were no longer free. Westrite attempted to fight and remove the chains, but the women simply laughed. They goaded and beat them, reprimanding them for indulging so eagerly in the pleasure of food, drink, and women. The men slowly fell into line, hope wasting away in the cold cavern.

Augiery grew with the descendants of the original Naerikk and the Pelagian’s crew. Eventually, the first Wicked Council was established in 404 AV. Groups of slaves were guided through the secret entrance to the cave to collect lumber. Massive ships were built. By 447 AV, Sarraski was established to house Augiery’s fleet. Ships would go out and return with more slaves to serve the Naerikk. Augiery grew in the safety of the shadows beneath the earth.

The history of Audrae, the Naerikk, the Pelagian and her crew, and the founding of Augiery are actively taught to young women within the city. It is believed that the Wicked Council wishes for this story to help build the foundation of the city’s beliefs, where men stand in the world, and why Naer should aspire to be more.

Timeline
161 AV: Garaia plummets into the earth. Audrae finds the remaining women and creates the Naerikk.
175 AV: Treid creates the moons, trapping the Naerikk from continuing their uninhibited slaughter in the south. Audrae and her disciples descend into the cavern.
176 AV: Augiery is founded.
365 AV: Vintrov Westrite, Captain of the Pelagian, rediscover Augiery. The ship’s crew become the first slaves of Augiery.
404 AV: The first Wicked Council is established giving the previously unruled city a form of government. Three seats are present on the Council: Wrath, Greed, and Gluttony. Audrae is still considered the Shadow Mother and Queen, a role that is believed to be unchangeable.
447 AV: Sarraski is founded. A fourth seat is added to the Council: Envy.
512 AV: The first Matxinada occurs. The Naerikk women put down those interested in throwing their coup. The slave numbers fall drastically.
666 AV: Odessa takes the seat of Vice Queen of Combatants and Slaves (Wrath). A fifth seat is added to the Council: Vanity.
667 AV: The Anthelmitzal Coliseum is built. The first Azterketa is administered due to rumors of a second Matxinada brewing. Odessa gives the slaves hope through victory in battle. The Matxinada rumors cease.
671 AV: With food stores nearing depletion, Lomela approaches Odessa and the Wicked Council members with a new proposal to feed the city. She presents the odol laborantzas. These “blood crops” have been crafted from her research with slave blood products. Rejuvenation is brought to the city as baskets laden with food are brought to each home. Even the slaves are given a larger portion than normal. Lomela is appointed Vice Queen of Agriculture (Gluttony), replacing her failed grandmother.
673 AV: Runash, a successful pirate and slave trader, returns to Augiery with a new shipment of slaves. Pleased with Runash’s success, Audrae places Runash on the Wicked Council as Vice Queen of Navies (Envy). Runash is commanded to continue importing slaves for the survival of Augiery.
678 AV: Audrae appoints Aurelia as the Vice Queen of Economy and Commerce (Greed). Aurelia pays homage to the Shadow Mother by amassing a collection of various treasure. The Ganga is established with round-the-clock security in place.
680 AV: The Beldistorio is completed. With the death of her mentor, Casia fills the seat of Vice Queen of Art (Vanity).
684 AV: Tanvi approaches the Wicked Council with a proposal for diplomacy with other cities. It takes her several trials to convince the Council as to why diplomacy is needed. So as not to make more work for themselves, the Wicked Council agrees to make the position of Vice Queen of Diplomacy (Lust). Tanvi is the first to sit in this position.
695 AV: A sickness runs through the laboratory, ruining much of the food stores. Desperation causes Lomela to enter the slave pits. All Porrota and half of the Langilea are forcibly taken to the laboratory, never to be seen again. Many citizens do not even know that a famine was on Augiery’s doorstep as the food never ceased to appear.
700 AV: With sickness on the rise, a young nurse is appointed as the Vice Queen of Health and Wellness (Sloth), the newest position on the Wicked Council. Sanja joins Audrae’s Daughters but is not widely known for her limited work within the city.

Geography
[/anchor]
As a part of the Southern Region, the area above Augiery is wild, with large beasts roaming the untamed land. The temperate rainforest that covers most of the Southern Region has a border above Augiery and houses the ruins of Garaia. The southern border to the never-ending forest gives way to bogs and a mountain ridge. A single accessible pass leads to the uninhabited south. Rumor has it that magical locations associated with the Original Beings lie beyond this ridge. Further east of the never-ending forest is a strip of wild grass. These plains were great hunting grounds for the ancient city. A forest beyond the plains marks a drier climate. Strange trees have begun to pop up from the ground, carried across the ocean inlet by the winds.

The open ocean is further north. Due to shifting of the lands, a section of ocean has split into three large bodies of water. The Gulf of Shadow is the first body of water. Appearing to be sectioned off on three sides by steep cliffs, there is a narrow fjord connecting it to Audrae's Maw. The ocean continues southward through the Palagean Strait into the Lightless Bay. These bodies of water have been named to be associated with Augiery but there is no known affiliation with the city. Directly connected to the ocean is Darklight Bay. The forest sits upon sheer cliffs and the waves crash tirelessly against sharp rocks below. Strangely, if one were to approach the cliffs, they would find a dock stretching out into Darklight Bay. It appears to be well cared for and suggests that it is frequently used. A fleet of ships can be seen docked in this deep body of water.

Aside from the ruins of Garaia and the well cared for dock, there are no signs of civilization anywhere. The forests grow uninhibited and the fauna reproduces through natural order; however, deep beneath the surface, a culture has seeded itself. From the ashes of its above ground operation, Augiery was born. The city grew directly into a column of the large cave underground. The commonly known entrance into the city is through the coastal town of Sarraski. Free men and women of Sarraski maintain the docks and the Augierian Navy that sits waiting in Darklight Bay. Darklight Bay is associated with the cove and column that Sarraski is built into. The ocean, unwilling to submit to its position, continues into the cave along the Oceanic River. This river flows along the path leading to the Beldistorio and to Augiery.
The journey through the cavern results in a fantastic view. Thick columns of stone are accompanied by the young stalactites and stalagmites. The air becomes drier and the surrounding environment because wetter as the cave meteorology takes effect. The gentle lapping of the Oceanic River against the river bed compliments the continuous dripping that resonates off the rocks. Although the colors can be repetitive, the natural architecture is often enough to take a traveler's breath away.

The Beldistorio is a stone archway built by one of the Vice Queens and an army of slaves. On either side of this entrance are miles of stone points that provide a natural wall. Some of these points connect to stabilize the cavern. Others simply look like threatening teeth as the cavern engulfs its prey. Aside from the abrupt demarcation of land, this wall of stone also marks the end of freedom for men. Only enslaved men walk beyond the Beldistorio. Free men are expected to stop and return to Sarraski if they wish to remain free.

The Oceanic River surrounds 75% of Augiery's circumference. A small bridge extends southward, separating the Oceanic River from the Green River. Only guards and soldiers seem to explore the southern cavern. The Five Rivers can be found further south, beyond the above ground mountain range in an unexplored region. Unexplored caves and tunnels lead to a variety of unique flora, protected by even scarier monsters. There is one thing for certain: the underground region of Augiery is just as wild as the world above.

Augiery: The Hive
[/anchor]
There are two entrances into the city, one being open to the public and one that is considered need-to-know. The public entrance winds its way through the caverns between the stalagmites. It passes through the Beldistorio from the seaside town of Sarraski. Free men are forbidden to pass under the Beldistorio unless they are in chains and enslaved. The entrance that is considered need-to-know descends directly into the city from the world above. This is rumored to be a way to bring slaves from other southern cities and towns directly into Augiery.

The underground city of Augiery is broken up into three major sections: the Vice Sector, the Hive Sector, and the Underhive. As expected, the majority of Augiery citizens live in the Hive Sector. Unless working for a particular woman or Vice Queen, all male slaves are expected to live in the slave pits. Quality seems to diminish the further down in the Hive one gets. Even in the Underhive, higher is better.

Traveling through the city is fairly easy and requires mastering many steps to get from the bottom to the top. The fastest way to get somewhere is to use the slave-driven lift on the south side of the city. There are staircases that traverse the city, and it is suggested that even the fastest stair-master can take half a day to get to the Vice Sector from the Underhive.

Vice Sector
The Vice Sector is home to the Vice Queens. Their section is broken up evenly among them with a few key locations that are open to the public with special permissions. Slaves are rarely allowed in this Sector unless considered Arena Champions. Each section is decorated specifically to the overseeing Vice that lives there. Since Runash lives in Sarraski, her sector is left barren most of the time. The other vices will use her quarters to house the Champions, whom live better than most slaves in the city. Naerikk that visit this sector can walk freely due to the enchantment on the Vice and Hive sectors.

Hive Sector
The Hive Sector houses the majority of Augiery's population. This sector of the city is enchanted like the Vice Sector to keep all Naerikk illusioned in the presence of light. Tattooed and non-tattooed Naer can walk freely in the corridors with little fear of dissipating due to light contact. Shops intermingle with residences throughout the sector. Slaves represent about 5-10% of the Hive Sector population. Most owners will send their slaves to the slave pits in the evening in lieu of putting them up themselves. Owned slaves that have earned their mistress' favor may find themselves a soft bed in their mistress' home. Slaves can be found accompanying their mistress, working in private shops, or completing city jobs through the Hive Sector.

Underhive
The Underhive is the only place in the city that is not enchanted to maintain a Naerikk's illusioned form. It is suggested city-wide that a Naer should never enter this location without tattoos due to spontaneous death by light contact. Txerri have been bold in the past, sacrificing themselves to kill an non-tattooed Naer if given the opportunity. Light is minimal in this sector, allowing Naer the opportunity to live in their true forms for periods of time. It is also a means of scaring the Txerri into submission.

The Vices
[/anchor]
Also known as the Vice Queens, Audrae's Daughters, and the Wicked Council, these seven Naerikk women govern Augiery. Each of the women focuses on a different functional component of the city. Despite the suggestion that the rank brings, the women are not Mortalborn daughters to Audrae. They are women that have been hand selected by their Queen for their leadership and knowledge in a specific sector that might help her city grow. Although every citizen is entitled to choose which Vice they follow more closely, all citizens are expected to respect the rules and regulations that the Vices place upon them. The Vices report only to Audrae and have complete freedom to do what they like to anything and anyone within Augiery.
Odessa is the most feared of Audrae's Daughters. If any of the seven women were ever to elevate themselves into Audrae's place, it would be Odessa. She runs the slave component of the city with a firm hand, sharp mind, and a thick whip. She had originally been hand selected by Audrae due to her brutality and malice towards her enslaved men. Her predecessor had been much softer, and the city has since thrived in their slave trade since Odessa has come into power. She holds the title of Vice of Combatants and Slaves although she is colloquially called the Vice of Wrath.

One of the key aspects to Odessa's rule has been the creation of the Anthelmitzal Coliseum. The former Vice of Slaves had been benevolent to her subjects, expecting them to get better on their own accord. Instead, the slaves wasted and died or became fat and lazy. Jobs were put to the wayside as the slaves believed it would be best to let the city rot for their freedom. Odessa thought otherwise. She incentivized them. She gave them a way to elevate themselves above another through combat. This allowed the strong to survive and the weak to fall into place. Some became cattle while others became revered by other men. Those that were able to become champions became the Vices' personal slaves.

Although Odessa is often considered scary, she has the best interests of Augiery in mind. She particularly holds her predescessor at fault for the previous failures of the city, making her more dangerous in her position. Audrae is her personal savior and role model. She is the best combatant in the city and in war, will lead the soldiers against any force. Audrae considers Odessa her right hand and the captain of her personal guard. Odessa's weapon of choice is the bull whip. She carries a cat-o-nine-tails whip on her hip at all times for more personal punishments.
Aurelia focuses on the wealth of the city. Her greed knows no bounds and she was hand selected by Audrae for her ability to amass nel. Aurelia is well versed in the art of global trade, negotiation, and finances of the city. Through her position as Vice of Economy and Commerce, she manipulates the rest of the world to get the best deals for Augiery. Many in the city feel that she is altruistic. The rest of her have renamed her the Vice of Greed.

Unbeknownst to the common citizen, Aurelia has amassed a private collection that is kept in the Ganga. The Ganga or "Vault" holds additional funds that she has taken from taxes as emergency funds for times of war and economical disaster. Aside from this secret, Aurelia also supervises the gambling sector of the city. Although her dealings with Odessa and her slave fights were limited, she became interested the moment gamblers started throwing down large sums of money on fighters that were predicted to be the next champion. She is not beneath tipping the scales in her favor, especially if there is a particular prize she wants.

Aurelia rarely descends in the Hive Sector or below. Occasionally, when a particular fighter or bet interests her, she will preside over a battle in the arena next to her sister, Odessa. Aurelia is tanned and wears bright golds and silvers, accentuated by a vast array of jewelry. She has never been seen without finery. She believes that it would be unbecoming of her station to dress down. As a Naerikk, she holds Audrae above all other Immortals. As an avid trader, she keeps a private relationship with Chamadarst.
Runash is easily one of the finest pirates that Augiery has ever produced. She states that her fascination with the outside world as 'curiosity' when in reality it is envy. She desires all that other cities have to offer. Runash has procured shipments of wood from Desnind, glass from Niomyr, and slaves from around Idalos. If it belongs to someone else, she wants it for herself and the city of Augiery. She claims the title of Vice of Navies. In public and global settings, Runash does not acknowledge her position as a pirate. To provide a rather shoddy cover, she claims her pirate fleet as the city navy. Amongst her fellow Naer pirates, Runash is one of the strongest, most ruthless, and successful pirates that the oceans have ever seen. Her Grovokian pirate name, Inbidia, was translated into common to Vice of Envy.

Her envious nature has bled into the relationships with her sisters. This has been an ongoing battle that she faces every day. Although she was picked for her prowess on a ship and her ability to procure rare items, Audrae has often doubted whether or not Runash is capable of being a part of a group as an equal. Runash desires to rule over the Vices and control every sector in some fashion.

As a method of preventing her jealousy, Runash is rarely found in the Vice Sector. She will take to the ocean on her ship, the Emerald Serpent, and lead groups of pirates on pillaging trips. She has private offices in Sarraski, the underground coastal town that protects the main entrance into Augiery. Her sisters have permitted her extended excursions with the understanding that she cannot take more than 20% of the fleet at any given point unless the city is at war. If Augiery is besieged, she is to return immediately upon notification to help defend Audrae and Augiery.
Casia promotes the arts and theater in Augiery as a means of spreading their culture around the world. Many of the artisans will appeal to her vanity by placing her in a piece of art. Artists will hide a cameo of her in scenes while troupes will create a role with an actress that physically resembles her. As the Vice of Art, Casia takes great pride in ensuring that the city is well endowed with statues of Audrae and the seven Vices.

Her crowning achievement was the Beldistorio. Known in common as the "dread entry," this is the stone gateway that marks the path that leads into the city. Despite her appearance and her soft hands, Audrae brought Casia into the fold for her quality work as a mason. As a young Naerikk, she worked tirelessly over solid stone to sculpt great effigies of Audrae. Her pride began to grow the moment Audrae requested that she become the apprentice to the previous Vice of Arts. Alongside her mistress, Casia helped finish the Beldistorio. Rumor has it that she shoved her mistress from the top of the arches when it was complete so that she could relish in the glory by herself.

She had murdered the only woman that she could have ever called family. Casia denies it to this day, satisfied in knowing that she would be the only one remembered for the finished gateway. She will attend almost all theatrical premiers. Casia hosts private art shows for high ranking women and artists from distant lands while plotting for ways to expand Augiery's renown in the arts. Her self serving mentality has won her the title of Vice of Vanity.
Tanvi likes to think that she is the one that represents all that the rest of the world should love about Augiery. She also believes that they should only love Augiery, no matter what actions they take against the rest of the world. Idalos is Audrae's playground. Tanvi has made it her personal mission to justify to each city why Augiery's actions are right and theirs are wrong. She is the Vice of Diplomacy. As the representative to the rest of Idalos, she can occasionally be found traveling from city to city bringing gifts of nel from Aurelia, art from Casia, and slaves from Odessa. As the messenger, she will often take most of the credit by providing the gifts from her sisters. To love Augiery is to love Tanvi, the Vice of Lust.

As tenacious as Tanvi is about diplomatic affairs, she is equally passionate about her other activities. When she is not gallivanting in a far off land, Tanvi can be found in the Hive tending to the male brothels. Referred to in Grovokian as egonkors, slaves work as a means to avoid becoming cattle or fighting in the arena. Only the most attractive men are allowed to work for Tanvi. She often picks them for their visual appeal and their abilities, known to her personally.

Tanvi never seems to be satisfied with an interest for long. As soon as she has had her fill of their love and adoration, she moves on to the next conquest. Unbeknownst to many, the only love she will never know is that of motherhood. Her infertility is the reason that Audrae picked her to be the Vice of Diplomacy. Her tongue and her body are weapons for peace, and she rarely has to suffer the consequences of her actions.
Lomela engages in all pleasantries in extreme excess. Her interest, job, and favorite hobby all happen to deal with one matter: food. As the Vice of Agriculture, Lomela's main interest is ensuring that the citizens of Augiery have enough food for their families and then some. If even one belly is left barely full, she considers her job a complete failure. Her philosophy is that food is not only eaten for energy, it is eaten to be enjoyed. Cities that have little more than enough to go around have dubbed her the Vice of Gluttony.

Augiery's citizens had difficulty providing food prior to Lomela's inauguration. She, like many of her fellow Naerikk sisters, went about their day with half-full bellies. Growing food in caves had proven to be difficult. Without sun, plants refused to sprout. Without crops, there was little food to go around. The city relied heavily on trading, bringing in goods that would last long periods of time. Only on occasion would fresh food be allowed into the city. Lomela's great-great-great-grandmother had first discovered the odol laborantzas, or "blood crops". This group of underground plants provide red fruits, vegetables, and grains through the use of specific plant food. The recipe is only known to Lomela's family and has been passed from generation to generation. Naturally, the Vice of Agriculture position has remained in the family as well.

Lomela will attend the slave fights regularly. At the end of these fights, she will sift through the losing slaves for her key ingredients. Those that are particularly healthy but were incapable of becoming champions become a part of her herd. They are whisked away in chains, rarely ever to be seen again. Most citizens have a basic understanding as to what goes on. Since it is necessary for Augiery's survival, many don't even bat an eyelash at the thought.
Sanja is the most hidden of Audrae's Daughters. She is the Vice of Health and Wellness, mainly concerning herself with the well being of her citizens. Her role is small in comparison to the others, as her sisters believe that healthcare is dismissive. The strongest should survive and the weak should perish. Sanja represents an opposing view. She believes that all lives matter, no matter the age, gender, or race. Even the slaves, much to Odessa's chagrin, are provided healthcare to some extent. Since this seat has little importance in the grand scheme of Augiery, Sanja disassociates herself from her sisters. Due to her lack of interest in her job, she was titled the Vice of Sloth.

The concept of healthcare in Augiery is vague at best. Physicians and nursing care are provided to all that need it. Since many are apprehensive to seek out northern medicine, Sanja is a proponent for basic principles to ensure good health. She insists that all citizens get the appropriate amount of rest and relaxation each day. Shifts were organized throughout the city as a means to create balance while maintaining a fully operational city. Although Sanja expects that the guidelines are followed, she is often too absent to uphold them. It is not unheard of for those that follow her liberal beliefs to shirk their duties, party, and relax frequently.

Sanja has a special, secret relationship with Jesine. Together, she and the mortalborn seek to spread sweet dreams throughout all of Augiery. She has decided that this is her main priority and has worked with scientists and doctors to come up with various ways to induce sleep and relaxation. Although she should focus on the well being of her citizens, she believes that she is doing good from her deeds in Emea. Audrae grows more concerned with each passing trial, wondering when Sanja will grow up and take her place on the Wicked Council.

Regulations and Punishment
[/anchor]
Regulations are determined by the Wicked Council and the entire free population in Augiery. There are seven general laws that are unconditional. Additional regulations fall under these regulations. Each Vice Queen is represented individually in these seven commandments.
Women above Men
Pay what is Due to the City
Sail and Serve
Audrae above All
Love thy City
One City, One Belly
Rest and Relaxation

The first general commandment focuses on the slave population. For the Txerri, regulations are incredibly simple. If a woman commands it, then a Txerri must follow the order. Insubordination has far heftier consequences than simply doing as they are told; however, there are some orders that are considered dangerous to the Mistress if either party is caught. Most commonly, punishment is dealt to those that break this commandment and the rules that fall under it. A Mistress cannot command a slave to do something that might harm Augiery or a free woman.

The second commandment mainly covers taxation. As long as the free woman is an honest, tax paying worker, there is little punishment dealt in this field. If one of Aurelia's bankers or tax collectors find that a woman is skimming funds from the city, severe punishment is frequently dealt as stealing from Augiery is stealing from the people.

A year of naval service is required of all free woman. In their 16th arc, they are sent to the navy to serve on the ships. There, a woman learns how to be responsible while they are serving Augiery. Once their year is up, they may choose to make the navy their career choice, travel abroad, or work in another sector of the city. Shirking this requirement almost always leads to banishment.

With all the propaganda lying around the city, Audrae is undeniably the Shadow Queen of Augiery. No Immortal or Mortalborn is to be held above her. Worship of outlawed Immortals can result in severe punishment. It is often stated throughout the city which known Immortals and Mortalborn are outlawed; a blanket warning for all to be loyal to the Shadow Mother.

This is a general rule for the maintenance of the city; however, even abroad Tanvi has ears. For a citizen of Augiery to speak ill of the city while traveling can be seen as a crime if it is discovered. Tourists may find this rule to be the one they often break. Female tourists within the city that love another city above Augiery have often found themselves escorted out of Augiery.

Generally, this rule covers food distribution. Every woman gets the same amount as one another. Every slave gets their ration. Stealing food from another might jeopardize that person's flow of food from the city for a period of time.

There is a time and place for rest and relaxation. All slaves fall into one of three shifts: First, Second, or Third. This ensures that there is round the clock staffing of the city. A slave cannot shirk their duties or randomly jump into another shift. Their activities cannot affect their productivity. For female city employees, this rule is applied. Sanja wants the people to enjoy their life. The other Vice Queens want them to do it responsibly and not to the detriment of the city.

The following is a list of punishments that can be applied. A punishment is applied depending on the severity of the crime and is often dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Punishment includes, but is not limited to, the following:

[columns=3]Death
Exile
Ration Adjustment
Public Shaming
Unpaid Work
Kentzea Collar
Whipping
Torture (Variable)
Psychological Realignment
Appendage Removal
Coliseum Fodder

Taxes
[/anchor]
Augiery provides for its citizens and the city Txerriak. Since all city Txerriak are provided second hand clothing, basic shelter, and daily rations, the city overhead is quite large. The citizens are provided similar benefits which include food supplies, basic housing, and work clothes appropriate for their job(s). Since it takes a great deal of nel to provide for Augiery's population, taxation within the city is naturally higher for the free female population.
Rate of Pay Level Tax Rate
0gn – 10gn per day ..........Poor ....................x 0.10
11gn – 30gn per dayCommonerx 0.20
31 – 50gn per dayLuxuryx 0.30
51gn+ per dayAristocracyx 0.40
Wages earned from a Irakasle position do not count to the daily wages. The original one or two jobs a character takes will be what determines the tax rate.

Since the Txerri do not make wages, they do not pay taxes. The city or their mistress will take care of them and their needs. To increase the likelihood of private purchases of slaves, free women are incentivized with tax deductions. Up to three slaves can be applied to an individual's taxes.
Number of Slaves .................... Tax Deduction
1 .......... 0.75x ....................
2 0.625x
3 0.5x
For example, a Mistress with two slaves that makes 31 gn/day will be taxed at a rate of 0.1875%. In Saun, she will make 1,240 gn. She will pay the city a tax of 232 gn 5 sn. Another woman making the same wage with no slaves in her household will be taxed at a rate of 0.3%. She will make 1,240 gn but will pay the city a tax of 372 gn.

It pays to have slaves.

OOC Note: Only one of the three slaves may be an NPC. If the slave is an NPC, you will still be obligated to pay the NPC expense (10gn/season) and follow the NPC guidelines. As this system is designed to increase PC-to-PC interaction, this is a hard rule that is non-negotiable.

The Txerriak
[/anchor]
The population of male slaves in Augiery are known as the Txerriak. No man is ever considered free as they are considered the lesser sex by the Naerikk. Free men are not allowed to pass through the Beldistorio and are expected to stay in Sarraski if they wish to remain free. If a free man happens to make it past the guards at the Beldistorio and is found roaming the streets of Augiery, they are immediately chained and collared. Argument for their release is often unheard as they are considered to have broken one of the sacred commandments laid down by Audrae by being a man.

Over time, the Txerriak have created a hierarchy among themselves. With the establishment of the Anthelmitzal Coliseum, the Txerri were able to elevate themselves above another through battle. Unofficial ranks were formed as fighters performed well, job positions opened up, and slaves fell into place.
[anchor=history]
The Ranks
[/anchor]
Langilea

Most of the Txerriak fall into this rank. They are the workers and fill almost any job throughout the city with emphasis on jobs in city maintenance. Throughout the trial, Langilea will be chained to long poles on a single corridor. They are permitted to move along the corridor on the length of their chain. They are charged with keeping the torches lit, the corridors clean, guiding lost citizens, and occasionally as living advertisements for nearby businesses. It has not been unheard of for citizens to converse with Langilea for enjoyment. This group is well versed in the rumors flying around the city and are often great sources of information. Some have even been hired as informants, with rewards coming from as high as the Vices. This group falls under Odessa's charge, with monitoring by the city Puppeteers.

All Txerri start as a Langilea. Once they have proven themselves in the arena, they may be moved to a different rank that is deemed more appropriate for their abilities, looks, intelligence, or physique. Those wishing to elevate themselves and take the test will move to the Haragi rank. Depending on their scores, some Txerri have skipped their fighting trials to be placed directly into a more appropriate location. Normally, a Vice Queen has direct influence on these Txerri.

OOC Note: No Txerri PC may start beyond this rank without moderator approval. It is recommended that Txerri start in this rank and move through the ranks In-Character to gain the full experience of the Augiery slave system.

Haragi

The Haragi are Langilea slaves that are electing to move forward with the slave test and Coliseum trials. Haragi are given light duty so they may pursue lessons in fighting and gain some education from older slaves.

The slave test, known as the Azterketa, contains several sections that are broken down into three main categories: beauty, mind, and power. All Haragi begin the Azterketa, but not all complete the exam. Depending on their abilities, Txerri may be removed early from the exam for placement in more appropriate ranks. For those that make it to the final aspect of the exam, they show their physical prowess as public entertainment in the Anthelmitzal Coliseum.

Haragi that fail the exam due to defeat in the Coliseum may be temporarily moved to the Porrota rank, depending on the physical health. Once recovered, the defeated Txerri will go back to being a Langilea. There is no rule on repeating the exam, but many elect to remain as Langilea for the remainder of their lives.

Puta

This group of Txerri are directly controlled by the Vice of Lust, Tanvi. Many Putas are hand selected during the testing period before they are able to ruin their good looks in combat. Puta are dressed in white skirts or gona. Their collars and cuffs are white leather with golden rings. They are forbidden to wear shirts and are expected to maintain peak physical condition.

Puta work in the Hive egonkors. These brothels vary in their environment, catering to a variety of compulsions expressed by the citizens of Augiery. Since Tanvi is incredibly particular as to what a Puta looks like, they make up a small percentage of the Txerri population. Puta are kept incredibly busy. They are so busy that citizens often have to schedule trials to seasons in advance to get time with a particular Puta. The wait depends on the abilities of the slave including charm, beauty, and endurance.

Ganadua

Augiery prides itself on being the only self-supporting city beneath the ground. To maintain the population where the sun doesn't reach, slaves have become a critical component not only for manual labor, but as a element of the food supply. Despite some of the rumors that may circulate about the Naerikk in other cities, slaves are not used for eating. They are used for supplying food for the underground plants known as odol laborantzas or "blood crops". Since they play a direct role in the growth of the odol laborantzas, the Ganadua are governed by Lomela, Vice of Gluttony.

Lomela will hand pick Ganadua for their health. This is identified by testing that occurs during the Azterketa. Their ability to perform and some subjective testing will determine if they are candidates for the studies that Lomela puts the Ganadua through. Once stationed in the laboratory, they are bled daily. These offerings are then integrated into the plant's food supply. Fruits and vegetables grow plentiful depending on the quality of the Ganadua; although, it has not been unheard of for Lomela to use poor quality Txerri in times of famine to produce food.

Since Lomela wants to keep her slaves healthy, she ensures that they are treated and fed well. Most slaves are allowed a small room in the laboratory to themselves.

Urasklabo

The Urasklabos are slaves that serve on ships. Almost all Urasklabo are privately owned by captains and many are Biqaj for their innate prowess on the ocean. The Urasklabos do not reside within Augiery and either live in Sarraski with their mistresses or on their designated ships. Some have even known relative freedom, able to drink in specific Sarraski bars reserved for slaves or receive small amounts of pay for their service on a ship. Captains of ships find that their slaves work better if given some ounce of normalcy and are treated as part of the crew, even if they are considered less than most.

Urasklabos appear to have the most freedom of all the Txerriak. The captains of their designated ship provide for them. Some have been known to receive gifts of nel or tokens of trust. For those lucky enough to receive a nel here or there, they are entitled to spend it on alcohol or clothing. Weapons will not be sold to a slave.

Pribatua

This group are considered the privately owned slaves. Commoners interested in owning a slave may choose from Langilea that are available for purchase. This group consists of house slaves bought for working purposes, and male slaves that have bought for relationship or marital purposes. A slave can be returned at any point for any reason. There is no refund. Privately owned slaves are clothed and fed by their owners. Privately owned slaves occasionally live in the houses of their mistresses' but many will be sent back to the slave pits in the evening.

Txapeldun

Txapeldun are slaves that have become Champions of the Anthelmitzal Coliseum. These slaves fall into one of three categories: gold, silver, and bronze. These categories are determined based on the attention they garner after their victory in the Coliseum. Txapeldun are considered the best of the best. They are the strongest, most handsome, and often most intelligent of the male population in Augiery.

Txapeldun are constantly at risk. They have elevated themselves above the Txerriak. Once at the top, there is no where else to go but down. The only way to dethrone a Txapeldun is to murder them in public combat in the Coliseum. This process can be dangerous and time consuming for an up-and-coming Haragi. Many choose to let the Txapeldun age out of their position.

Gold Collar: Txapeldun that wear a gold collar and wrist cuff combo are those that are lucky enough to serve the Vice Queens. They work in the Vice Sector and are controlled by one or more Vices at any given moment. They are the best fed and clothed slaves of all the Txerriak. They live in private quarters of the Vice of Envy and are only sentenced to live in the slave pits when Runash visits Augiery. There are no more than seven golden Txapeldun at any given point.

Silver Collar: Those wearing the silver collar and wrist cuff ensemble are owned by private citizens of Augiery. Their mistresses are often have some control over the city as politicians, wealthy merchants, or beautiful actresses. Commoners cannot afford Txapeldun. Those that wear silver have the safest position. Txerri leave them alone as there is a sense of impending wrath when messing with a privately owned Txerri. Upsetting a mistress can often lead to more misery than being sentenced to time in the Underhive. This is the largest group of Txapeldun as there is no cap to their small population.

Bronze Collar: These are the leaders of the Langilea. They were not chosen by a Vice or private mistress and remain obligated to serve the city. They are given lighter duties and administrative duties over their underlings. Bronze Txapeldun will teach Haragi and Langilea to succeed in the Coliseum. Some bronze Txapeldun will go out of their to protect Porrota, suggesting that Txerriak numbers may be more beneficial to future causes.

Porrota

Porrota are slaves that have failed to perform. This particular rank carries with it a stigma, even among the other slaves. Failure to perform may be caused by injury, health problems, and/or progressive age. There are subranks to the Porrota, as defined below. Any slave in any rank can become a Porrota at any given time.

Porrota can be identified by their injuries, health, and their physical appearance (gray hair, wrinkles, etc.) Their garb is variable. The Zaharra may be dressed relatively well if personally owned or married. The Elbarri and Gaixo are often dirty and bandaged up. Occasionally they have been stripped of their clothing and left naked by the other slaves. They wear the collars of their previous rank.

Zaharra: These slaves have worked themselves through a lifetime. They are the most respected Porrota and are often treated well among the Langilea. Mistresses may be kinder to Zaharra Porrota, especially if the slave had been privately owned. It is not unheard of that a mistress will provide a cushy lifestyle to a Zaharra that has served arcs beneath them. Zaharra have often been paired with a single woman for most of their lives and many have been married to their mistress despite their rank as a slave. They are considered free as long as they remain loyally beside their mistress and within the confines of their mistress' home. Their freedom ends at the door to the house they live in.

Elbarri: These are the crippled and injured slaves. More often than not, Elbarri have suffered their injuries due to defeat within the coliseum. Most that attempt to elevate themselves above another are pompous and arrogant. Once dropped from their pedestal, they immediately fall to the bottom. Now they are unable to work and are a burden on their comrades. Those that do not heal quickly are often left to die or beaten to death by the previously weaker slaves. It is all about saving resources among the weak.

Gaixo: Those that have fallen ill will be considered useless until they recover. Many Gaixo will work and live with others that are ill so that they prevent sickness running rampant through the slave population. Massive culling has occurred in history because Gaixo have infected a majority of the Txerriak. The Wicked Council will take measures to prevent the sickness from leaving the slave pits including quarantine and mass murder. Like the Elbarri, slaves will often gang up on this group and terminate them.

Korrikalari

Korrikalari are slaves that have attempted and succeeded to remove their restraints. Once the restraints have been removed, a Korrikalari has either attempted to run away from Augiery or attacked a female. This rank is designed for those that have been recaptured after their delinquency. The Korrikalari are punished severely before other Txerriak, recollared with a Kentzea collar, and put into the Langilea group. They are forbidden to take the Azterketa.

The Azterketa
[/anchor]
The slave exam is broken into three categories: beauty (edertasuna), intelligence (adimen), and power (potentzia). Most Txerri are interested in getting to the final category and do not often train their mind. Beauty tends to be innate and is sometimes unavoidable; however, it is often a fate that the Txerri find themselves enjoying. This test if initiated two to three times an arc, depending on how many candidates have applied.

Stage 1: Trial of Edertasuna
When the Azterketa was first put into practice, this category was considered extravagant and useless. Initially, it was placed at the end of the exam. Odessa and many of the Vice Queens found more enjoyment in slaves brutally beating one another to a pulp at the very beginning. Many of Augiery's citizens also found more satisfaction in the coliseum battles. It was Tanvi that fought for the handsome men. She argued with the other Vices, claiming that she could not find Putas to fill her egonkors when they were black and blue. She needed pristine, sculpted men. She appealed to Aurelia's greed, stating that beautiful men brought in more money. Lomela's gluttony was fulfilled when she promised wine to be plentiful in full egonkors. Each fell slowly to her wiles until Odessa stood alone. The Trial of Edertasuna was moved up to stage one.

This test is fairly simple. A panel of women have the Haragi paraded in front of them where they have previously been assigned numbers. The women rate each Haragi on a 10 scale. The numbers are then averaged, providing each Haragi with a face value score. Haragi are then given an opportunity to show a little more in a body building competition if they are in the top 10 at face value. The panel of women will evaluate the finalists, narrowing the pool from 10 to 5. The final decision falls to Tanvi. She will take the top 5 most beautiful Haragi of that test and award them the rank of Puta. One of these finalists will be named Tanvi's Txapeldun until they are dethroned or bought by a private mistress. It is not unheard of for Tanvi to reject all 5 finalists or withhold the golden collar until the next Azterketa. After all, catering to her desires is difficult.

Stage 2: Trial of Adimen
The second test is of the mind. Smart Txerri will make the city a pretty penny. Slaves that know languages, arithmetic, and have a basic understanding of science are valuable. They are tested by educators and the smartest ones work through the tests, leaving select few to be sold to wealthy merchants and business owners. These are often silver collared Txapeldun.

This test lasts less than a day. It is a formality for all Txerriak to participate in the test, even if it is marking random answers to the questions. Those that put the time and effort into the Adimen are instantly saved from beatings sustained in the coliseum. They are immediately placed in city businesses or sold to the wealthy merchants. Occasionally, Aurelia will seek out an intelligent Txerri for her own private business endeavors and maintaining inventory in the Ganga.

Stage 3: Trial of Potentzia
Those that have not been chosen by Tanvi and Aurelia are sent to the final stage where there is only one goal: survival. Just before they are paired with their opponents, medical experts come through to assess the body. Each fighter is assessed for disease and physical hindrances. Lomela will steal those away that are in pique condition to add to her herd. It is not uncommon for brawlers to fight with each other prior to their exam to reduce their physical value. Few fighters wish to be cattle despite the cushy lifestyle they are given in return.

Slaves that pass their physical examination are paraded through the city and out the south gate. They are guided through the winding path to the Anthelmitzal Coliseum chambers. Each slave is allowed use of a small, private bedroom while they battle in the arena. Here they are treated by medics and provided their meals. They are not allowed to interact with one another unless they are in the arena. The doors remain locked at all times. On the days of battle, cheers can be heard from the Anthelmitzal Coliseum all the way to the city. The slaves that are not battling that day are permitted to watch from a location directly below the best seat in the house. Odessa is seated upon a throne atop the cages that house the Haragi that have made it this far. There they watch their opponents, learning their fighting styles while watching their rivals fall.

The Trial of Potentzia works in a tiered system. Names are picked from a ceremonial bowl until each Haragi is paired up with another Haragi blindly. These fights will take place until a winner is picked from each pair. Again, those winners are paired blindly until there are four finalists. Three of the finalists are given silver or bronze collars as a consolation prize for their valiant efforts. The winner of the arena is collared with gold, the Txapeldun Champion of the Arena.

There is only one rule to fighting within the arena: Survive or die. Additional rules may be added at the whims of the Wicked Council. Those in attendance may also have a say as the Vice Queens prefer to give what the people want. In the past, some of the rules include weapons, blind fighting, or 2-v-2 fights. Anything goes, which makes the fights in the Anthelmitzal Coliseum some of the bloodiest entertainment in all of Idalos.

The Fashion
[/anchor]
The Txerriak, depending on rank, are expected to wear specific clothing items to identify their rank. Although there is a variety of clothing styles, there is one similar accessory across the ranks: the collar and wrist cuff ensemble. All slaves are expected to wear this combo to show their status to their fellow Txerriak as well as a constant reminder of their role within Augiery.

Prior to Odessa taking her seat on the Wicked Council, slave escapes and outbursts were common. Leather was most commonly used to make collars and wrist cuffs. Of course, this also meant it was incredibly easy to remove as many slaves were required to use their hands to complete their jobs. Beatings did not fix insubordination. In fact, it made it worse. Odessa changed the rules to up the stakes by making a blanket statement to the Txerriak: "Good slaves get comfortable collars. Bad slaves will lose their heads."

Her statement was put into practice through the use of specially crafted, alchemical collars. Those that removed their collars once were dubbed Korrikalari and were no longer permitted to wear comfortable, leather collars. Instead, they were locked into specially designed metal collars that contained a liquid/powder combination. These became known as Kentzea collar (Grovokian for "removal"). If the substances ever came into contact, they would erupt into a ball of explosive flame, removing the slave's head from their body. Slaves could not return to their leather collars for good behavior. Once a delinquent, always a delinquent.

The collars are carefully crafted by smiths and alchemists within Augiery. There are many small chambers within the collar containing the liquid and powder. Several false pins and hinges have been added to confuse slaves on how to remove the collar. Only Odessa and one or two other highly respected Naer that work for her know how to remove them safely.
Langilea black leather collar and wrist cuffs
Haragi black leather collar and wrist cuffs
Puta white leather collar and wrist cuffs
Ganadua brown leather collar and wrist cuffs
Urasklabo red leather collar and wrist cuffs
Txapeldun bronze, silver, or gold thin metal collar and wrist cuffs
Porrota previous rank collar
Korrikalari thick, heavy, steel collar and wrist cuffs that are designed to explode (Kentzea collar)

Privately owned slaves will have a gold disk attached to their collar with the name of their Mistress. The Mistress may also have the slaves "name" placed on the backside of the disk so others might know how to control him. These disks are changed or removed if slaves are moved to a new mistress or sent back to the slave pits, respectively.

Clothing is generally provided by the city unless otherwise specified. Odessa works with Aurelia to provide appropriate, low-budget clothing. Most often, styles include second-hand items. These items are often over-sized, torn, thin, and dirty. Overall, they are considered useful. As slaves prove their worth, Puppeteers might go out of their way to suggest to Odessa and Aurelia that better clothing may increase their work ethic and compliance. Several ranks have specific uniforms provided by their private owners or the Vice Queen's in control of their rank.
