Hiya! So while I was writing about thrall counts as Netzach's Mentor, Hod. It suddenly struck me that protocol allows one to place a well inside of a thrall and allow it to act without the expenditure of ether and direct control of the Necromancer.
But does it still continue to count against the Thrall count of the Necromancer?
Could a Necromancer have a few Thralls defending his lair autonomously, freeing up his Thrall count for raising a small squadron of corpses to go fight some people?
Question about necromancy!

Re: Question about necromancy!
From this part of the necromancy article:
" The limit of undead controlled remains set, so one will usually see a welled undead in the care of a conservative necromancer or one interested in improving their creations."
So while the benefits of a welled undead are as stated, it merely means they conserve ether by installing those wells. Not that they can go beyond the maximum number of thralls controlled per level. Mind that means direct control. Whether you can leave one with specific protocols on a welled undead while you're away, is another matter perhaps.
I think it's possible, but risky in case the protocol isn't air-tight, and it ends up turning on the necro or other unintended targets.
Good question!

Re: Question about necromancy!
Ohhh so the thrall count is about how many thralls they can directly control?
So as long as the welled thralls arent under their direct control they don't count?
Obviously, the protocols need to be written carefully lest they wander off and indiscriminately start killing.
Thank you for the reply!

Re: Question about necromancy!
Yes, but bear in mind uncontrolled undead are very very very stupid. You'd need to write some intricate protocols indeed to get the efficacy of a fully controlled minion.
The main use I see for installing and keeping thralls like that, is to store them in reserve, perhaps coffins and barrels (haha, diablo style). where they can't really get up to mischief while protocol'd to just sit still and do nothing until they're disturbed. The well would keep them from deteriorating and keep them fresh in that state, so when you need more undead you can retreat to your lair and start controlling them.
That's my idea of how welled undead are meant to be used. It's always best to control them, for maximum utility, however. Whether they have a well or not.

Duly noted!
This helps a lot when thinking about the logistics of Netzach's mentor's thralls, and also in planning for the future. Thanks Pig Boy!
