Location: The Attic
A gift from the powers-that-be in the Shadow Quarter, there is a dedicated space for an initiated member of the Shadow Quarter to work on any product - the only limit for what can be made in this state of the art facility is one’s imagination. In this particular case, there is a laboratory located in the Glass Quarter, which its only occupant (Leander Aguilar) has named The Attic.
The Attic is a laboratory which has been kitted out with all the equipment needed to carry out chemical and alchemical experiments as well as producing a range of concoctions including medicines, illicit drugs, poisons, and anything Leander can set his mind to. Truth be told, it doesn’t look much different from the vast laboratories found below the Viden Infirmary, with equipment that would make any private chemist green with envy.
It isn’t the largest space, maybe 200 square foot, enough for a solo chemist to work on perhaps four different projects at once without contaminating them, but it is full to the brim with workspaces and equipment - any chemist’s dream, really. In all honesty, Leander isn’t sure what half of the items are for. A creature of habit, he uses equipment that is familiar to him, but his aim is to learn more about the more complicated items.
In the centre of the back wall is a large fireplace, primarily used to bring water to a boil, however it is antiquated, beautiful and does not really look to be in the right place, given how modern everything else in the laboratory looks. In the back right hand corner is a large fresh water receptacle, filled each morning before Leo arrives by someone Leo has never clapped eyes on. Around the walls, over the workstations, are cupboards upon cupboards brimming with seasonal ingredients sourced from all over Idalos… as well as non-seasonal treated ingredients for necessity’s sake. Finally, on shelves located on the left wall, rest a good number of books - tomes about plants, about common medical ailments, ones with common recipes... there are even a number of blank journals for the occupant to fill in his own inventions.
It comes with additional perks, too. The equipment is loaned in the laboratory by the Shadow Quarter and, whilst Leander is responsible for its care and upkeep, he has been made aware that any damaged items will be replaced, no questions asked. Same for the ingredients - they are just… there, ready for use. It is a facility that, for those in the know, show the monetary worth and overall power of the Shadow Quarter. No expense has been spared in its creation and kitting out.
The downside is the little green leather box kept near the entry door. Inside is often empty, as Leander checks it once a trial, but there is often a missive or two from an unknown face from the Shadow Quarter - messages telling him his directives. He is constantly reminded that this incredible laboratory comes at a steep price: his is not his own agent anymore, and must answer to the whims of people he will likely never know on a personal level.
