The daughter of a Lightning Knight, Arbie grew up around weapons and weapon training, and enjoyed all of it. Stubbornly independent, and having found love young, she refused to follow in her father's footsteps, and instead, took up a job as a caravan guard for one of the merchants. It allowed her to travel and practise the martial arts she enjoyed, while bringing in a steady income for their growing family.

When her own daughter was born deaf, things began to change. Arbie paid Agnes Natter for lessons in Common Sign, so that their whole family could communicate, and as the child grew, Arbie began to look for new work. She wanted her daughter to grow up happy and included, rather than isolated.

When Agnes approached her about becoming the head of Rosebay's guards, Arbie jumped at the chance, and willingly moved to Rosebay, bringing her wife and daughter with her.
