Description: This is a ritual used by couples whose families and/or friends do not approve of their relationship for whatever reason. Thunderstorms are fleeting things; here and gone in a matter of breaks. More importantly, lightning is a symbol of Ilaren. If a a couple whose relationship is frowned upon succeeds in sharing a drink and a kiss in the time between a thunder crack and lightning strike in view of witnesses, then it is believed that Ilaren has blessed their union. From that point on, no one can show their disapproval when they announce their love to the world. In many cases, there is no more disapproval since it is believed that their union has Ilaren's blessing. The couple in question can be any (legal) age, married or not. The drink itself can be any alcoholic beverage, and it can be shared at any place that serves alcohol or in the privacy of their home as long as there are at least five witnesses. One member of each of the couple's families (or their closest friend if they have no living family members) must be among the witnesses. The entire drink must be consumed and it must end in a kiss for the ritual/tradition to be believed to have worked.

Hey Seira,

I like the idea of the tradition, however I think that you have the significance of a thunderstorm a bit off center. A thunderstorm being a very temporary thing, I don't see how it correlates to eternal love? Also, I can think of a way to make it better I think...

I could see this being more of a thing for star-crossed lovers or an otherwise unlikely pair, whose relationship isn't meeting with the approval of their respective families. Like if a pair of lovers manage to share a drink and kiss in the time between a thunder crack and lightning strike in view of witnesses, then it will be considered that Ilaren has blessed their union, and non can raise their voices in complaint when they announce their love to the world.

I like your idea a lot. My original thought was that thunderstorm = lightning = the belief of Ilaren's blessing. But you have a very good point about the temporary nature of a thunderstorm. I have renamed the ritual/tradition, and reworked it.

Looking good! But the requirement for a Thunder Priest to be one of the witnesses seems to allow for less spontaneity than this tradition would be geared toward. I'd simply remove the reference to thunder priest(ess) being needed as a witness.
