The Grand Fracture of Brelt'ek
The Sage's Grotto
HistoryAmong the Originals Brelt'ek was known to be the wisest and most reasonable. Though he walked Idalos he never claimed any territory upon it, and while some shay worshipped him he acted as their adviser rather than their ruler. It could be said that he above all other Immortals respected Idalos the most: participating with the world and fighting to secure a place in it for him and his siblings, but never imposing his own will upon it.
When the shattering came Brelt'ek, perhaps sensing that something was amiss, fled into a huge cave beneath an island at the mouth of a great river where Hiladrith now stands. Perhaps it was because of the respect he held for Idalos, but when he shattered the fracture created by his passing did not warp the laws of nature within its foyer as others do. Instead it did the opposite: reinforcing the natural laws of the world. Anything that tried to enter the fracture bearing the taint of something born from Emea either found itself rejected from entering or bound by the rules of Idalos as it was before the Originals arrived.
Since the dawn of humanity this fracture has been discovered a few times by travellers, some of whom have ventured inside and conversed with the strange beings within. From these rumours have emerged across the land of a mystical cave where those in search of wisdom can seek answers. In a sense Brelt'ek's could be considered the least dangerous of the seven grand fractures, for there are no strange magics or monstrous emean horrors within, and as such the explorers who were wise enough to bring offerings and appeasements for the old spirits sheltered within have returned alive and unharmed. However ignorance is bliss, and those who have returned from the fracture come back changed: haunted by the weight of the answers they found within and never speaking of it to anyone.
Date Opened
The time of The Shattering: 600 arcs before the end of the War of The Immortals and The Oath.
Entrance
The only entrance to this fracture is a humble cave mouth: simple and unassuming.
Foyer
The foyer of Brelt'ek has a power unlike any found in other fractures. Within it the natural laws of Idalos, the way the world was before the arrival of the Originals, is enforced by the fracture's power. Any powers born of Emea are negated, meaning that one can only rely upon the power of the spirits and their own skill to reach the heart. This fracture has the following effects:
- Immortals, Revealed Mages and other beings of Emea cannot enter this fracture at all. An invisible barrier repels them.
- Mortalborn can enter the fracture, however always feel weak and lethargic. They cannot use their abilities within the fracture.
- Immortal marks and magic sparks cannot activate within the fracture. Any transformations granted by them, such as magic witchmarks, disappear upon entering the fracture and reappear when the person leaves.
- Spirits can enter the fracture and use their powers as usual unless they were summoned by the power of an immortal mark, as can souls.
- Wells and welled objects are rendered inert, as is anything created via alchemy that used something born of Emea (such as a mage's blood) as a reagent.
Veins
The veins of this fracture are just tunnels and streams: entirely normal apart from the fracture's nullification ability.
Heart
The heart of the fracture is located in a large pool in the middle of the grotto. If anyone approaches it a voice: deep, rich and capable of conversing in any language on Idalos no matter how obscure, resounds from out of the heart to speak to them. This voice claims to belong to a being from far away across Emea, and if it is to believed is stronger than the Immortals. It promises those who are willing to listen to it knowledge and power beyond their wildest dreams if they agree to help it in turn by leaving the fracture and completing a few simple tasks for it.
Well Information
No fractures of any kind can be found within this fracture, for wells are constructs of Emea and thus have no place in the natural order of Idalos.

Notes
- Cassion, Mastes, Pier, Pre, Syroa, Thetros and Vri know where to find the entrance to this fracture, but even they know little of what lies within.
