105th of Vhalar, Arc 713
"So, what exactly are we looking for?" Cassius asked, nearly tripping over a root. Prae caught him by the arm, and gestured at the ground.
"We're looking for signs there are rabbits in the area; they like to use the same paths over and over again, so if you see a rabbit trail, it'll probably be used again before long." Prae said, frowning at their surroundings. "It's usually easier to do this in winter, when there's snow and it's easier to make out tracks that have been used over and over again, but we work with what we have, I suppose. It's a bit harder to see, but if you spot a trail of grass and moss that's been trampled into the dirt, that's what we're looking for."
Cassius nodded. "Any other signs I should look out for?"
"Hmm.... Fur, pellets and teething marks, mostly. Although now that you mention it, I haven't seen much of those either. It's odd, last time I was here, there were definitely signs of rabbits running around. I wonder if—" Praetorum paused as something caught his eye.
"Prae? What are.... are those what I think they are?" Cassius asked, a little nervously. Padding over, Praetorum dropped into a crouch besides the prints they'd spotted, studying them carefully.
"I think so." Measuring the pawprint against his own hand, Prae nodded. "Look, the print is almost exactly like Bane's. The central pawpad is sort of shaped like a triangle, and there are clawmarks in front of every toe. But it's too big to be a wild dog; has to be a wolf." He looked around the area, spotting other tracks. "I can't tell if these tracks are all by the same animal or not, but look, this one's pretty fresh, while that one's already dry."
"So, we should probably go, is what I'm hearing." Cassius said.
"Probably. Wolves aren't usually dangerous to us, but with so many prints in one place... I'm worried we might be near a den. Either ways, we're not going to find rabbits here. Come on, let's go find a better spot."
