But as for pirate loot, feel free to add what you think he should be able to get from looting a pirate captain and his cabin. May as well make it worth the gold he already spent for this. Although weight may be a problem so he'd have to stick to the light stuff so the barrel won't sink.

At least a fancy captain uniform and an ornamental cutlass, signet rings and such. I don't really know what else you could find on a pirate captain and his quarters. Oh maybe a map for the waters surrounding Etzos/Foster's I guess now that I think of it.
