When Faith said she'd take some blood, Vivian nodded. "Take as much as you think is safe, doctor. Genna's right, it couldn't hurt to know what special properties my blood has, besides maybe being forgeable." she said, grinning slightly at that last part. Once Faith drew blood from her, Vivian pointed out the one property she knew. "It hardens to a solid metal if it gets too cold. Heat it back up and it'll melt just fine, and it seems to still be blood after it's melted." she said, her tone calm. Then she looked at the list Faith gave her and started reading as she listened to what Faith told her about the list.

"Well, we keep medical records for all the knights and priestesses as a matter of course. I'll start with them, but we'll definitely have to pull people from Rharne, and we'll have a hell of a time collecting Aukari blood. Not many of them here in Rharne, given Ilaren and Faldrun kinda really hate each other. I'll see what I can do though." she said, before nodding at the vials Faith had taken from her. "Oh, by the way, in my case, I've never had a major disease and this is the first time anyone's done anything with my blood. And I'll try and get blood from my half-siblings. You know one, all three of worked together during the war and you were there when we learned we were related. He'll probably volunteer soon as I mention your name." she said, before frowning. "The other one...if I can convince her it's important, I can probably get it. She's more likely to want her name left off of things, though." she said, thinking about how Varlum and Vega would react to the request. She'd make it though, and do her level best to convince them if either were reluctant.

When Faith started making a list for herself and Genna, Vivian took a look at it then looked at the two healers. "You might also test each type of Nickel blood against other types. If there's a Nickel with blood the others don't like, that's something we can use. Granted, we can't pin them down for live samples, but we can get all the blood we want from them once they're dead." she said, before grimacing. "Except the bombernickels. They explode, so getting samples from them will be harder." she said, and when they started talking about testing her blood against regular types, she nodded. "Makes sense. Padraig might be able to get something from it too, with all those alchemical smarts of his. It'll be limited if it does turn out to be useful, though. So far as I'm aware, I'm literally the only source of the stuff that exists. Though if I find more, I'll let you know." she said, grinning slightly.

Gennadiya hid suppressed a smile as she watch Faith work. The young woman was sure that Faith could stop the tide if she felt is was necessary. Genna nodded her head. “I will be glad to help with the process. Besides the helping understand these monsters this might also help us understand blood better in general.” The young woman understood they were looking at a massive project, but it could really be worth it on so many levels.

“Please give me a moment while I get things set up.” Genna retrieved the necessary supplies and storage vessels. She came up and began the process neither lady objecting as she took the samples. She smiled at them and set them aside. “Thank you Vivian. We will keep you updated with what we discover.”

Gennadiya began then with Faith to work on the project they had set before them. They clearly labeled each and ever sample they got and made sure to keep them preserved. Following what she had been taught Genna took detailed notes that could be references at a later date as they began to make comparisons. At this first stage they would need to collect each of the samples.

While they were waiting on the samples though Genna suggested they start with the test on the gems. A sample of each creatures gem was tested against extreme cold and heat, and just general immersion in water, and then immersion in brightgleam Oasis water. Genna then made sure the correct people ran the test against lightening, ectoplasm, ether and ephemera. Followed by Immortal marks which for Genna included eye of the beholder and leaving Faith to do which one she wished.

Genna also took special focus Vivian’s blood while they waited as they was much to be learned from that blood independent of everything else. She looked to see what was there when comparted to regular blood, had it been completely changed or was the structure the same and just the nature of it changed.

It did take trials but the samples began to come in. Genna made sure that the label was guarded now at all times as the samples couldn’t be contaminated. No names were ever written, but the descriptions were carefully supplied and recorded. Genna kept her own log of that information as she saw Faith doing as well. There was to much at risk if one got lost or destroyed. Genna did still help with healings and surgeries, her skills were still needed to help save lives, but her hobby and the time she could was spent here in this study.

Once enough samples were collected the testing was started. Genna almost felt like a child again in the kitchen trying to mix things to see if they would magically make food. Though this time she had a plan and not plan on eating it. She worked methodically. True using the list supplied, but she didn’t feel any need to adjusted.

First the tested reactions from the corpses of the monsters to the touch of the blood or just regular individuals of different races. Then moved on to those who help magic but no marks and so on down the lines. Genna found herself suited to such meticulous testing. She found it fascinating to see the reactions or even if nothing happens. Either way there was an answer to the questions that needed to be asked and answered.

After checking the surface reactions she moved to see how the blood itself reacted. The different races verses the different species of flamborn. She watched through Pad invention how everything behaved and recorded in turn with Faith. Genna found it amazing how much time could slip by when working on a project like this. Then it was time to reverse the test and see how the different types of mortals reacted to the flameborns blood. All through this Genna, and made sure others, took precautions of gloves, and covering clothing. Again data would be recorded as they continued.

Now were the very hard test as they watched the reaction of the animal part of the flameborns to the same sample types they had previously been using. These took longer as it took more time to separate out what parts were doing what. The young woman found these to be the more tiring trials as they ended, but test and recorded they continued to do.

The gems weren’t forgotten after the first test. They to would feel the touch of mortal blood, and all inclusive, ranging from those of each race, those without magic or mark, and those with them, and as many types as they had samples of. The Gems the result of some weird alchemy still suffered a fate of being a test subject. So it continued.

While doing this these test Genna had thought to check and see if these creatures could actually reproduce. With them being dead it could only tell her so much but it would speak a lot to the nature of these creatures and the changes that occurred into them She would take the necessary time to check and see if those parts, a) remained or were gone, b) if they still functioned for the purpose of producing young. Also if gender even existed anymore.

Notes were made, and notebooks were meticulous made, with the different note books holding different testing information, and Genna was glad for the shelves as they soon where full of notes between the two ladies. Once all of the comparisons between different bloods were made then came the test on the blood to see how it reacted to exterior forces, and once again, heat, cold, water, and brightgleam water were employed. The same individuals were asked to test in regards to lightening, ectoplasm, ether and ephemera.

The test were only the first part. Trials of study would be employed to actually review the data. It was all there, and both women tore through it making what connections they could, bringing int others who they felt necessary, but carefully. They needed to keep the information safe and secure. Genna did find times when she was tired but the answers and the data was worth it. While there was a focus this information could be pulled for other concerns later. These test could very well help change the understanding of blood and be a boon to healing.

It took time, but eventually the reports were compiled and copies made. So that the information would always be safe.

Effects

Hair glows slightly from Ymiden's mark
A Green tree on shoulder blade from Mosekes mark
In possession of a magic Rose which heals scares.

Results of the tests as performed in the above to-do list provided are as follows:

Surface reactions show mild reactions to Necromancy, Graft, and Becoming, suggesting that they have been subjected to these magics, however showing no further effects. Surface reactions show minimal positive reactions to Faldrun Mortalborn blood, healing small wounds. Surface reactions show moderate positive reactions to Faldrun cursed blood, able to regenerate surfaces significantly at a level comparable to Graft energising.

Blood reactions show stronger reactions to Necromancy, Graft and Becoming blood. Faldrun Mortalborn blood causes the blood to bubble, and Faldrun cursed blood causes the blood to boil.

Mortal blood, upon having Flameborn blood added to it, froths and congeals rapidly, becoming unusable, no matter the race, Mortalborn status, magic, or Immortal mark.

Animal blood, upon having Flameborn blood added to it, is overwritten by Flameborn blood. The two mix, however instead of diluting, the volume of Flameborn blood increases exponentially. When mixed through a combination of associated animal blood, Flameborn blood, blood of Necromancy/Graft/Becoming and the blood of a Faldrunborn, this infusion begins to glow and swirl rapidly, hyper-energised by the concoction.

Blood of a Faldrunborn or Faldruncursed added to the gem causes the gem to glow with eerie black light and hum. Those that later attend Beneath an Orange Sky will later recognise this humming to be the same as that of the gem at the top of an altar.

Blood mixing with lightning causes the blood to congeal and curdle, much in the same way as mortal blood does when mixed with Flameborn blood. Coagulants and anticoagulants have no effect. Extreme heat excites and 'charges' the blood significantly; while extreme cold causes the blood to coagulate. Immerson in water causes no effect and the blood sinks to the bottom, refusing to mix. Immersion in Brightgleam Oasis water diffuses the blood, causing it to dissipate completely. Ectoplasm and ephemera have no effect.

Gems do not react to extreme cold, extreme heat, or immersion in water. Immersion in Brightgleam Oasis water causes the gem to crack and collapse into inactive fragments. Being struck or affected by lightning causes no effect at lesser levels, but at high levels causes the gem to crack and collapse into fragments. Ephemera holds no effect, however ectoplasm activates the gem, causing it to hum faintly and shudder in place, as if something inside of it squirms and tries to break free. Ether causes no effect. Immortal Blessings, such as Ilaren, are highly effective on the gem, however marks of Faldrun strengthen the gem and are capable of reversing limited damage from all other sources.

Comments: This was an absolutely interesting thread. Genna’s first post made me wonder why nobody else had wanted to conduct research into the biology of the flametouched monsters. Was it too complicated, too dangerous or simply too disgusting? Either way, she seems like a very diligent and conscientious doctor. She has really come a long way!

I think that Faith might be one of the few doctors that had started to work with dead bodies because they were being owned by an undertaker. I appreciated that reference to her past. Faith’s desire to know and learn things was well-described in my opinion. I like how polite she is in spite of being this world-famous doctor and Champion of Famula.

I’ve read and reviewed a few Flameborn threads at this point, but I still wasn’t sure how exactly they worked and how they came to be, so this thread proved to be quite enlightening. I really enjoyed the scientific discussion between Genna and Faith. Faith’s Zuuda Ability definitely came in handy. I appreciate that you included an actual description of the ability in a spoiler!

While Vivian is neither a doctor nor a researcher, she played an important part in this thread as well in my opinion as a leader who keeps an eye on things and forges a connection between the researchers and Storm’s Edge. It surprised me that she was so open about being a Faldrunborn. The three of you worked together very well in my opinion and played an important part in this thread!

I loved that you included the actual to-do list and the list for Vivian, Faith. I really enjoy reading IC notes, and I think it can add a lot to a thread. I was quite impressed by them. They were quite thorough! I wouldn’t have thought of performing tests with so many different types of blood!

I appreciate the mod note with the results of the tests performed at the end of the thread, by the way. I found it most fascinating how differently the gems react to different types of blood!

That being said, enjoy your rewards!

P.S.: Vivian, you didn’t list which skills you used in the review request. Please do so next time!
