Appearance

Ly'lan stands at 5' 3" (approx 160 cm). She's of slim build and fair complexion. Aside from hygiene and her hair she doesn't put much effort into her appearance. She prefers plain, simple clothing though much of that is habit and not having extra coin to spend on looking fancy.
She has long black hair she keeps tied up. Her eyes are dark brown, though upon very close inspection her irises would appear to be made out of complex patterns of lines - the Witchmark of an Attuner.

Personality

While adventurious and curious, Ly'lan is calm and contemplative. While she struggled with her studies it was an issue with motivation, not ability. Her strong desire to help others with their problems often causes ones for herself. She does not care much for what strangers think of her, instead focusing in being the best version of herself the way she thinks is right for herself. She believes everyone should have the freedom to pursue their ideal self any way they find best, as long as it does not involve harming others.
History

Ly'lan was born in Viden to a local working class human woman and sev'ryn father. His familiar quest had eventually led him to Viden where he not only found what he was looking for, but also a new home.

Lan grew up listening to her father's stories of travel, adventure and spiritualism - stories that had gotten her mother to notice him in the first place as well. Needless to say she found them fascinating and very much grew up wanting to go on her very own adventures one day. And to the disappointment of her mother, she spent much of her time and effort learning "adventuring" skills, instead of practical life skills or focusing on her education.

Not all stories were of adventure, however. A lot of them were about how to be a good person, and the many many paths that can lead to that and the fact that while you can look to others for inspiration, everyone has to find their own way.

Adventure soon found her, though not in the way she had dreamed of. One crisp Zi´da day, right before a snowstorm was expected to hit the city she saw a girl around her age head out of town. Thinking she must not have known of the approaching storm she headed after her to warn her, thinking she could catch up quickly at the very least when she inevitably stopped to do whatever errand she most likely was about to be doing right near the city.

She never did catch up to her, however, the girl walking with determined steps without so much as glancing back and by the time Lan realized she was not going to get to her it was already too late to turn back. She kept chasing the girl in hopes that she was headed to a shelter, or that perhaps between them they could make one in the snow. But as the snow started falling she quickly lost sight of her and soon even her trail was covered by fresh snow. Feeling helpless she had no choice but to carry on forward.

But someone found both of them, as soon an ellune man walked into her field of view carrying the young woman, who seemed to be unconscious. He did not seem to be hindered by the storm one bit and Ly'lan found the storm to be less chilling near him. Their eyes met and while no words were exchanged she felt invited to follow. And not like she had much in the way of options.

Soon she found herself at his home and as he cared for the young woman he explained a little. His name was Nadar and he was a mage living in self enforced exile out of fear of losing control of his powers and doing harm to others. That and he had come to enjoy the peace and quiet.

When the woman finally came to she introduced herself as Wren and it soon became clear she knew much more about Nadar than Lan did. While Lan struggled to come to terms with her apparent powerlessness, Wren spoke at length of trying to prove her worth and wanting to learn magic, the former resonating with both Lan and Nadar and soon Lan found herself intriqued of the latter as well.

He spoke of magic and it's dangers and also of other things not related to magic. Wren seemed to be listening intently and Lan tried as well, but she often found herself drifting back to those moments of helplessness in the storm. Eventually she too asked to be taught magic, despite the risks involved and, after some convincing, Nadar did agree to Initiate her into Attunement.

When Wren left out to connect with the Elements, Nadar told Lan to take a seat, close her eyes and relax. No stranger to the idea of meditation she cleared her head and focused on steady breathing. Nothing could prepare her for what was to follow, however. Nadar began to hum an eerie tune and after he'd reached the correct rythm he broke out signing a song both impossibly beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Yet that seemed secondary as something in it made her instinctively try to comprehend the song itself.

Try as she might she seemed to make no progress aside from amassing a massive headache. Just as she thought her head was about to burst something suddenly clicked and, for a brief moment the song made perfect sense. It was almost immediately replaced by a different tune, seemingly coming from nowhere and everywhere at once as her very own Spark began merging with her. That's when the pain actually hit her, her previous headache entirely forgotten as entirely inconsequential in comparison. Slowly the pain began to let, replaced by a sensation she knew she would never have the words to describe, even if she wanted to. Then even that slowly passed, leaving her in silence and seemingly alone as Nadar had quit singing and taken his leave as soon as he was confident the Spark had properly started taking root.

It felt like several breaks had passed since she'd closed her eyes, but as she carefully opened them the outside light had not changed all that much. She didn't have long to ponder about time however as she felt an odd kind of sound coming from herself. This was different than the song she had just heard. Strange, but in the sense that it was unfamiliar, not in the sense it was incomprehensible. Beautiful but not otherworldy. From what Nadar had told her, this must be her own Frequency. A melody describing herself, only heard by herself and other Attuners, but it might sound entirely different to them. She would spend long stretches of time just shifting through her own tune in the trials and arcs to come, fascinated by the different Notes.

After they had both passed their Initiations, Nadar came back with them to the city, at least for now, to look after and teach them. Respecting his wishes for secrecy Lan took to wearing hoods that shadowed her face, in an effort to hide her Witchmark, the fractured eyes that revealed her as an Attuner. Of course, she couldn't keep it hidden from her parents for long. Whatever he may have thought of magic as such, her father took it more or less in stride. If his daughter thought magic was the way to go for her, who was he to judge? Her mother wasn't very happy, however, and it took a lot of talking to get her to calm down and not ground her forever.

After, barely I might add, passing her secondary education Lan kept practicing Attunement under Nadar while working odd jobs here and there to help support her family and build up her adventuring fund.

A couple arcs passes like this before Wren asked her to join an expedition to the island of Scalvoris - Lan needed no convincing to tag along. Her mother was hesitant to let her go but at this point she was an adult so eventually she relented - if only because there's not much she can do. Her father on the other hand wished her good luck on her journey and gave her his knife, a finely made if simple curved dagger his own father gave him as he set upon his own journey all those years ago.

And thus she set out on her first planned adventure which hopefully would not be her last.
