After lapis made contact with the land spawn, Rend set out to dispatch who ever continued to resist. Lapis felt he would just get in the way so he sat idle incase his comrade requested assistance. while it wasn’t the most physically daunting position it was still exhausting to wait while someone else was in mortal danger. All lapis could really do was tread water and make a silent prayer to the leviathans of the deep to watch over them.
It wasn’t long before the wait became to much for Lapis and he looked for alternative ways to help. He recalled seeing hunters dress their wounds by wrapping them in sea weed, and there was always plenty of that to be found. Lapis swam to a patch of swaying strands of sea weed and took a hand full of the leaves. He quickly swam back and began tying the ends together to increase their length. Lapis may not have been the best fighter but his nimble hands were able to create tight knots without tearing the delicate material he was working with. Working on this project kept his mind of the occasional crashing and banging he heard from the hull of the boat. It was almost like a form of mediation, that kept his mind focused and on task. The mer craftsman continued to add more links to the wrap until Rend swam back victorious.
Lapis was glad to hear that at least one of them Land span had made the right choice but he would have liked more but it would also make things more completed.
“Take this and use it to treat your wounds, while I swim this wretched thing back to shore.” Lapis placed a small bundle of the tied seaweed wrap in Rends blood stained hands with a gentle nod. He gave Rend a mild dolphin smile of gratitude before swimming up to greet the trembling human he would be saving.
Lapis popped his head up over top the ledge boats ledge and spotted the sobbing human. “I’m hear to Swim you to shore, this ship is ours now”
It was hard for Lapis not to feel pity for the sad shivering creature but he was still the enemy and Lapis knew he couldn’t forget that simple fact. The man was understandably hesitant to approach the edge of the boat, assuming it was some kind of ruse.
“Come now or I’ll let my friend with the teeth have you.” Lapis barked the order while sending a pulse of anger into the land spawns feeble mind. The man shook in fear and quickly stumbled over to the the mer, crying even harder now.
“Jump in the water or I can’t swim you back to shore” Lapis was losing patience quickly but knew it would be incredibly dishonourable to change his mind now. The man was practically choking on air and had to take a deep breath to calm himself before making his leap of faith. Lapis grabbed hold of the Man’s arm and forcefully dragged him though the water, not caring in the slightest for the safety of his passenger. Not being the best swimmer in the seas, lapis was finding it hard to swim with such a heavy encumbrance. It was tiring and painful but he pushed through it, talking breaks to catch his breath and hoist the man up for air. By the time he had gotten closer to the shore the man had fallen unconscious from lack of air. Lapis probed the man on to some stones and riffled through the mans pockets, finding next to nothing of value. Lapis swiped the coin purse purse having from the mans belt, it was rather light and likely to be free of actual coin but the Mer felt entitled to it none the less.
The journey back was much quicker without the added weight and Lapis was back to greet his comrade soon enough.
“How is your wound? did the seaweed help at all?” Lapis wasn’t really a healer but he wanted to be useful after feeling like he was more of a hindrance during the attack.
“When you're ready we can look over what these land spawn were protecting.”
