It was freezing. Cold weather reigned in Zi'da and it was no exception in Scalvoris. Kazimir was shivering fiercely. He only had a large bag on his back holding some artists supplies, the only thing he had that might help him make money. Except, he couldn't paint with how hard he was shivering, only wearing a long skirt with a few of the layers scorched, everything else had been burned in the fire, and he just didnt see the point in spending his money if he had no job to make more. It was this that eventually led him to go to Cally's. He did the best he cooked to clean himself up a bit, but he couldn't do much about the scorched skirt. He shivered and stepped into the building and looked around. "I-I hate to be a bother, b-but would you h-happen to have any w-work for me? I-I'll do anything..." he said, his teeth chattering and causing him to stumble over his words.

Faith and Padraig had been to the Order of the Adunih and she wanted to pop into work. Not to do any actual work, she had been quick to reassure her husband, but in order to catch up with Trudi. The head waitress and front of house at Cally's was someone that was almost a friend for Faith and Tina, her friend would be there too. So, since Padraig had needed to pop to the university, she'd said she'd wait for him here. The staff at Cally's were like family, they'd rallied around her when she returned from being kidnapped, they'd been there when Padraig and she lost their connection during his expedition to the edge of the world. She was happy here.

She was also, by this point, rather enormously pregnant. When the newest visitor to Cally's came in, Faith was sitting in the kitchen, where it was warm (not that she was ever cold, but they fussed) and she was sipping a cup of tea. When the half-naked half breed came into the front of the building, it was Trudi the waitress who spotted him and moved over. "Come in, come through here. Into the kitchen."

Trudi, by her very nature, was like a whirlwind and Kazimir would find himself ushered through into the kitchen. There were sitting two human women. One of average height with blond hair and a ready smile and the other short in height and slight in stature, but very pregnant. Faith started to move and both Trudi and Tina turned to her, "Stay there, Faith," Trudi said, firmly "I'll bring him over. Here you go, you sit here."

"I'll get some soup," said Tina and Faith nodded. The young man in front of her was half avriel, she judged and she pursed her lips slightly, imperceptibly. "Here you go, I'm Faith." She smiled at him; no matter how much she hated what his people stood for, you couldn't judge someone by their race. "There you are, you'll warm up in no time." It was warm and, within bits, he had a bowl of hearty soup in front of him and a blanket around his shoulders.

"So," said Faith, urging him to eat. "What brings you to us? You are welcome here. How can we help you?"

As Kazimir looked around, part of him wondered if perhaps this was not such a good idea. Would an establishment as fancy as this even want someone like him working for them? Thankfully, he didn't have long to ponder and second guess himself into leaving, as soon enough someone was there to escort him to the kitchen. "Th-thank you." he stammered out, following her quickly and tucking his wings in as close as he could with his bag of art supplies on his in the way to avoid knocking into anything. He could only hope they had some kind of work for him, he'd take literally anything. Taking out garbage, washing dishes, whatever it took. Kazimir could feel the heat of the kitchen starting to warm his numbed chest, arms, and fingers. He'd been hopping from place to place asking for work, and so far everyone had turned him down. One of the patrons of a bar had said if he was looking for work to go to Cally's and thus here he was. He could only hope that they wouldn't turn him away like the others had. He certainly wasn't expecting to be fed, and he moved to sit down carefully at the chair. "H-hello." he stammered out a bit nervously, rubbing his hands together vigorously to warm them up faster. He was very clearly surprised when a bowl of soup was put in front of him and felt a blanket being wrapped around his shoulders, helping to warm his wings as well as the rest of him.

His stomach growled rather loudly when he saw the soup, but he remembered his manners and placed his hands on the bowl first to help warm them up so they wouldn't shake before taking the spoon and lifting the bowl towards his face, sipping it carefully to avoid slurping. He didn't want to seem rude, though from how fast he was eating despite his manners it was clear he hadn't eaten in a few days at least. It wasn't until he had eaten at least half the bowl that he lowered it to speak. "Forgive me for not answering right away, I'm afraid it has been some time since I last ate. At least a few days, if not longer. I-I came here to seek work. Y-you see....th-there was....I-I mean...." his voice shook and he ducked his head to hide the tears that sprang forth. "Th-there was a fire....I-I'm the only one that survived out of my family....a-and I have nowhere else to go...Please, let me work here. I-I'll do any job you have available, nothing is beneath me. I-I don't have anywhere to stay, or anyone to turn to...I-I could even offer my own skills, if you'd like. I-I can paint, and draw." He was eager to impress her in some way in order to be hired, that much was clear as he moved to finish the soup. "I-I can cook a little too." he offered after he finished the bowl.

Faith sat, not rushing him or expecting him to answer when he started eating the soup; she had been looking at some pieces of parchment when he came in and she turned her attention back to those while he ate, but she looked back up regularly, so he knew that he was welcome to talk whenever he wanted. She listened when he apologised and said it had been some time since he had eaten and she shook her head. "I would rather see you eat than hear an answer that can wait, it's fine." He spoke then, though, and Faith listened. A fire? She breathed in, her hands pressing together as she listened ~ the pads of of her fingers touching each other with such force that they were whiter even than the pale skinned woman normally was. His family had died in that fire and he had nowhere to go. He explained what he was looking for and Faith nodded her head.

"Let me tell you about Cally's," she said, softly. "It is a place where people who have nowhere to go can come and we will help them. We don't give out charity, that it patronizing and we don't do it. What we say here is that, if you will work then we will feed you, give you somewhere to live, medical care and so on, and train you in a skill if you do not have one." Faith gestured to him. "Although it sounds like you do, so will not need extra training, but are still welcome to it. In return for what we offer, we expect hard work. Then, after a set time, usually of five ten-trials," although it had been more for those in the worst sort of situations. Perhaps it would suprise Kazimir to know that his was not that, although she did not doubt that it felt it right in this moment. "well, we help you find work. Sometimes, the people who have gone through this programme, they work here."

Trudi put another bowl of soup down, fresh crusty bread accompanying it. Faith gestured to it, if he wanted it. "The front of house restaurant is very expensive. That pays for the accommodation, those sorts of things. We have a farm for produce, a vineyard, livestock. As an artist, there are all sorts of things which might be put to use. I was just looking at these, in fact," Faith showed him some mock-ups of menus she'd been looking at, with small drawings of the dish next to them. She really wasn't sure that it helped and to her mind it looked fussy, but equally, there was a visual aspect to it and it helped those who could not read. However, she was going off track. "So, if you wish it, we can offer you that. Would you be interested?"
