Part II of The Global

The Misty Miasma is known best as a dark bedtime story, but others know all too well that the stories of this mystifying, deadly place are undoubtedly true. Adventurers keep wary eyes upon the horizon, wondering if and when they'll run into the stanch waters of the misty miasma. No one knows when they'll come across it. All they can do is hope they are prepared and pray they never find themselves within this place...

"What if I fall?"

Oh but darling
What if you fly?
121st of Vhalar, 717
  • It was a sudden change, just like the swarm that descended upon the group quickly, nipping the majority. Navyri, who had been focused on the way her feathered friend moved and the orbs that circled, realized that her perspective was suddenly altered and she was moving very quickly towards the little tree, the change in eyesight making her squawk frantically as she barely managed to avoid a tree trunk and went spiralling into some branches. Pain radiated up her arms… no… she looked and saw that she had no arms at all, but wings. She felt lighter, almost mockingly so and scrambled to get her footing on a gnarled twig.

Just below, a beautiful woman with wings screamed and twisted, throwing her arms about wildly. In that moment, a terrible realization settled in and she tried to fly towards the figure, not nearly as fast or as graceful as Curio had been. As she drew closer, so did a man.

He held up his hands trying to soothe her old body, and poor Curio trapped inside it. The poor spirit must have been terribly afraid and Navyri felt a sudden wave of emotion. This place… the miasma… always upset her when it came to her companions.

Navyri, who had previously been invisible as Curio exploded into sight, diving rapidly towards her body. As a lovely barred owl with white plumage, she made a shrill sound of warning as she landed on Curio’s shoulder and gripped at their mental teether with extreme focus. Years of experience with each other had given her an expertise and she sent soothing waves through their bond, trying to balance and rub against her old face.

Calm down. Easy. Shhh… Shhh… Navyri continued to press her new plumage against the woman's face, finding it almost strange to watch herself from the outside. Wow… Was she always so stunning?

Slowly, Curio began to calm, the her arms no longer swinging and each time she tried to turn her head too far, the trapped Naerikk sent a sharp peck into the woman's shoulder. 'No.’

Any lingering bugs received a sharp snap at, with Navyri trying to catch them in her beak, the enhanced vision and neck flexibility helping in that regard. Finally, when her original body no longer threatened to accidentally hurt itself, she turned her head, peering at Tio with dark, depthless eyes. So unlike the bright ones her original illusion held.

    “What?”

The sound instead came out as a trill, and Navyri remembered she could not speak. A wave of frustration filled her until she saw the orb the man had captured. Her feathers ruffled from the excitement and she leapt from Curio's shoulder and flew to the man's. She gave a trill again, and lifted a foot, extending it downward. She tried to shimmy down his arm, careful not to dig her talons into his skin… unless he deserved it. She needed to know… was it hers?

Mixed Messengers

Standing at the furthest edge of the group, Davic had a unique amount of time to understand and react to what was happening. The coinciding of this swarm of flies with a sudden aura of confusion was enough to convince the monk to avoid the buzzing midges. His few trials spent travelling through the Wisp Wood had taught him the general rule of “don’t get bitten” anyway, so not letting these things nibble on him was a pretty familiar goal. It was, however, also something easier said than done. These green pinpricks of dancing light no longer gathered around the other champions. Instead, seeming to have had their fill of the rest, the swarm turned nearly entirely to him.

Davic sighed.

Though he’d had opportunity to practice his Defiance many times since he left the Monastery, it had yet to get any easier. Simply resisting the elements didn’t take much effort, but each time that he succeeded in weaponising his magic it had been followed shortly by extended dizziness and head-pain. As such, the idea of calling the wind to his defence - especially when it seemed to already have a master - was imminently painful.

Well, it wasn’t like he had a choice.

Raising one hand toward the swarm, and then slowly another, Davic closed his eyes to better hear his subject’s voice. It was not long before they snapped back open. Where historically the wind elements had been consistently quiet and gentle, the spirit of this gale was currently in hysterics. It didn’t take too long for Davic to piece together the gist of its garbled, wordless message. Apparently there’d been a switch - a change in dominion. The master who had called it here no longer responded, while some unfamiliar being was now clearly wielding that power, but without any clarity of command. It was enough for Davic to finally grasp the specifics of this situation: Clearly these midges were much more than just irritating bloodsuckers.

Davic uttered a heavy, unsubtle command to the air around him, and met with far less resistance than he expected. Apparently the strange, dissident tyranny of his communication was comforting to its target, a spirit in the throes of unprecedented uncertainty for whom such directness was a relief. Unfortunately, the ease with which it obeyed Davic seemed to have no affect on the familiar migraine that followed. But even as the young monk gripped his head and began to curl, the wind he’d summoned made its presence known. The swarm of midges that had nearly reached him, during the stretched out moment of his elemental communion, was finally blown back - Davic could just make out through swaying vision their wings that heaved against the gale. Turning slowly away from the neutralised threat, Davic’s realisation came back to mind. These glowflies had, as far as he could tell, transferred abilities from those they had bitten to others - some if not all of the champions present. Looking past the swarm, he found further evidence for this theory in the ubiquitous confusion of the group. A woman was flapping her arms desperately, the blond, jovial man now stared in abstract confusion, and the defier who had controlled the wind until so recently was now engaged in a dispute with the man Davic knew to be its new owner. Before Davic had a chance to congratulate himself on his deduction, his attention was drawn back to the second example. He watched carefully as the formerly confident individual discarded something from his bag. No, somethings. They were shiny, round, and a good half of them glowed unnaturally bright. Aside from that though, there seemed little special about-

The world suddenly grew quieter. It didn’t disappear - just fell out of focus, out of mind. Not of its own accord, no, it was pushed out. There just wasn’t enough space in Davic’s head to contain both his environment and the sudden, unending attachment he felt towards these tiny balls of light and glass. Dimly he was aware that what he was feeling was absurd, but a greater part of him didn’t care. Since the destruction of the Monastery, since the deaths of those it contained, he’d had nothing. It was rampaging solitude, a feeling he’d spent every night since struggling to silence. Meditation helped, and better even than that was starvation, dehydration. The pain of deprivation forced his mind away from that much deeper lack. Davic had been taught to suppress, to hold in and muffle. But now, lying on the ground in front of him was something that told him, emphatically, that it was his. The boy’s eyes and mind could not leave it, but he did not wish they could. Warm and comforting, no part of his lonely mind rejected their influence in anger or fear. He felt tears fill his head that his friends would have teased him for. But they were gone, with everything else. With everything - every last damn part of it was gone. And it had been because of him: He had ended it, had lacked the strength to protect them. And he would again. Stumbling forward, Davic did not make it far before he fell. His nausea was only growing worse as the wind continued to obey him. But singlemindedly he crawled, reaching towards the abandoned marbles. Never again. Davic would protect them, he would hold them close and shelter them from the world that would be their shattering.

But that hadn’t been the danger before, had it?

It was his actions that burned the Monastery, that Brother Kruz suffered because of. It wasn’t the world that had killed them - it was him. His weakness, his mind’s failings and his body’s inadequacy. Davic gathered his marbles from the ground and stood shakily to his feet. They shone so brightly, glowed so strongly. But holding them he could feel their delicacy, the fragility that he feared. If he was to protect them, it was he who would have to change. He needed something, some strength, anything better than his own ignorant, frail existence. And with that, the world came rushing back with an answer. It was all around him, the swarm that he had fought off. Gently wrapping the marbles in one hand, Davic pulled off his hood and cloak. Burned and pale skin now braced against the gales of summoned power, open and exposed. Whatever happened now, whether it was his mind or body that changed with the insects’ bites… The young monk reached out to the wind, finally allowing it release. Whatever was now altered by the swarm that finally flocked towards him, no longer held back, it couldn't be worse than his own current frailty.[/b]

Just as the confrontation between Nir'wei and Robin was about to advance beyond mere angry words, Zana stepped between them, showing her indifference to what mattered to them, and using her mortalborn power to impose emotional control over Robin. Had they all been gathered in a realm with normal dynamics, it would surely have succeeded. The fact of the Misty Miasma's origins stemming from the shattering of dozens of Immortals, made the flow of divine power weak and/or unpredictable.

Robin's anger was admittedly diminished, but not enough to turn him completely to Zana's whims. It gave him the interruption he needed to perceive of another source of elemental connection. The wind itself also found joy in feeling a bond form again with an mortal of the pertinent spark. Yet it too, was somewhat affected by Zana's implanted impulse. The wind surged around in confusion, jumping from Davic to Robin to Nir'wei, only finding a natural connection with Davic.

But he was now ignoring it as he fiddled with the marbles, gathering them up to wrap them in something. He may have been resigned to accept whatever fate brought his way; but the mesmerizing quality of the marbles' glow kept him still largely numbed to the situation. It was not until the marbles' auras were totally cut off that he would be able to truly return to full awareness.

Had it not been for the bugs themselves this may not have ever occurred. They too, were attracted to the swirling essence contained in the marbles. Reality came back to Davic in a shocking realization that his hands were completely engulfed in a buzzing mass of crawling midges; the mass serving to block the marbles' effect.

At the same time, the wind tried to fetch Zana's orb. In its divided loyalties, however, it sought to "return" it to Davic. It blasted aside the bugs, only to sense their hypnotically calm return. But that moment of dispersal allowed Davic to once again be ensnared by the aura of the marbles. He made no effort to take hold of the orb, letting it simply drop on the ground.

This on-again, off-again hypnosis continued for the brief time it took for the others to separate themselves from their current issues to take note of the different colors of the insects, and how even was the ratio of glowing to non-glowing examples. Navyri, though, had noticed something more interesting. Disappointment in realizing that the ball in Tio's possession was not hers, was mixed with shock that it was the one with the gold nel on the plate.

They had all figured that to be the orb oriented to him. So why was there no reaction? And why was it not making any effort to elude him? She had already been wondering if it needed to be her body, or her mind, inside Curio's body, that needed to take possession of "her" orb. Now the possibility that it was the identity, and not the body that mattered, occurred to her.

If that was the case, her current occupation of Curio's body might mean she needed to hold it in his talons, not the hands of her normal body. In either event, the one with the gold nel was of no use to her. But it was unlikely that she would feel inclined to reveal this detail.

There was a detail of which the others were starting to take note. The bites on their bodies were tending to turn colors other than the more common red of an insect bite. Some were red, but they were a more bright red than the more angry red of a bite. Greens, blues, golds, violet, amber and others were as prevalent as red or purple.

The mesmerised crawling mass of insects on Davic's hands revealed a similar mix of colors among them. Was it possible that one of the insects of the same color as a their bite, would enable the return of some missing element of their identity? Or could it be used to fool the orbs? Was it worth the risk of losing a part of yourself to win this thing?

And did any of those bugs contain Finn or Tio's personality?

Hey there guys. I hope this works for you to enable further chaos. I've been pulled in multiple directions all week, and have early work every freakin' day. Been fighting off and on migraines lately as well. Just glad to get something down with a few weird clues. I couldn't stand it if I had to slack another day.

His attempts to calm the bird lady obviously weren't working, and so the memoryless man was relieved when the owl that seemed to belong to her flew up onto her shoulder. It's presence seemed to calm her down considerably, and gradually she stopped flapping her arms around and trying to snap her own neck, and instead settled for standing around and simply staring at everyone. The hooting didn't stop though.

Rather unexpectedly however the owl didn't stick with it's owner, but instead turned it's head to look at him and then suddenly flew over to him. As he didn't have much experience with birds his first thought was that it was going to attack him, but as the man put his arm up to defend himself the owl just landed on and shimmied down it, staring at the pocket he'd put his orb in. Following it's gaze, the man realized what it was that the owl was so interested in; after all it couldn't be a coincidence that this strangely personable owl was staring towards the object he'd been clutching so desperately when he'd gained conscience now could it?

"What's the matter with you little birdy? You want to see the orb?" He said to it in the rhetorical manner most people did when speaking to animals, not at all expecting it to understand him. Well, if the owl was so interested then why not show the orb to it? It wasn't like it stood a chance of snatching it away from him after all. And who knew, perhaps it might help him understand what the orb actually did? Slowly he reached into his jacket pocket and took the bag out of it, then pulled the bag back to reveal the orb.

This time though there was something new about the orb. No longer was it just a plain black colour, for now there was an incredibly realistic looking image of a large pile of gold coins on a dining plate displayed upon its surface. The man studied it closely, trying to make out what it was supposed to mean, but nothing presented itself. Just what in the world was this orb? A plate full of coins? What on Idalos is that supposed to mean? He muttered to himself, just loudly enough for any of the others to make out if they weren't preoccupied with something else. It was obvious that he was confused as to its meaning, and there was no hint of recognition at all on his expression.

Since nothing more seemed to be happening to it, the memoryless man put the orb back in the bag and returned it to his pocket. As he did so he finally noticed that on his hands, and indeed on closer inspection his entire body, there were tiny spots forming on the places that itched. These spots were the bright yellow colour of sunflowers, exactly the same as a few of the insects still buzzing about.

And then finally he turned back to look at the other people around him, and upon seeing Davic and a large amount of bugs staring vacantly at the pile of marbles he'd dumped on the floor realized that he'd clearly made a mistake in throwing them away. Whatever it was they were they seemed to have completely enthralled the poor lad. Should he take them back? Looking at the way the boy was obsessively clutching them he got the feeling that he if he did it would come to violence.

Umm... is that my fault? He again muttered to himself as he eyed the kid warily, utterly confused by the chaos around him and the naggling feeling that he was the cause for quite a lot of it.

As the others came to their senses, it became apparent Nir'wei wasn't the only one growing annoyed. Robin - the one that had fallen just short of boasting of his unnatural ability to move the orbs - started screaming at him of all people, as though he'd stolen something. "The hell are you talking about?" he growled, still feeling the air tugging at him in incredibly unnatural and disturbing ways. "If you want it back, take it! I don't want this stupid thing!" He must have been talking about... whatever the hell was pulling on him. An invisible spirit? Possible, although he shouldn't have been able to feel it, not like this. He didn't care what it was, he wanted it off - but as he grew furious beyond just words, Greyhide immediately moved between Robin and himself as the man boy charged like a crazed animal. He was more thankful for Robin that he was intercepted before it could fall to blows.

This was all becoming a little too bizarre, he thought to himself as the tugging sensation began catapulting between himself, the annoying woman with strange powers and someone else who seemed to be standing gormless. The orbs were important, of course, but... well, it was quite clear that nobody really had much of a grasp on the situation at hand. At least he'd not lost his memory like that man who couldn't understand where he was or why he was here. And at least he wasn't running around screaming and flapping like one of the other women. Whomever had written the laws of this place had obviously been drunk at the time, because this was... this was too much.

Wiping his forehead with the back of one hand, he noticed a small dark patch growing an odd shade. The bitemark! Or... at least he hoped so. It didn't look very normal, and scratching it only made it turn brighter and angrier. "It looks like those bugs." Greyhide's attention was focused on the swarm of bugs surrounding Davic and buzzing loudly. When Nir'wei looked to them, he could understand why. They were all sorts of colours... one of which matched his bite mark, but there were plenty more, reds and purples and golds... and they didn't just match his own, but the marks of those around him that he could see were different colours to his, but matched with different bugs.

"It's another bloody puzzle," Arch growled. "Or maybe even a part of this one." Tio had lost his memory. Navyri had lost her mind. Robin had lost whatever he'd been using. Had the bugs stolen them? It was certainly a possibility... but then, what had the bugs stolen from him? "I can't feel anything different about us, don't worry about it." The wind that had started tugging at him first was now following Davic's orders instead, so he'd gained nothing of the sort, but he'd not lost anything either. He considered himself lucky for that... although.

He turned back towards Robin, recollecting himself. "Fetch me my orb, and I'll give it back to you." He couldn't, obviously, he didn't have a damn clue what'd taken his whatever nor how he'd ever get it back, but who cared! "Hurry, we don't have a lot of time!" That woman with the strange powers might be able to tell things to do what she said and have them obey, perhaps the promise of getting back his powers would be enough motivation to bring him back. Just as a precaution, he quickly pointed a finger at Zana as well, without looking in her direction. "You say one word or try any of that weird stuff on me and Greyhide will rip your throat out." The wolf growled in agreement without hesitation.

hey folks, this is NOT a serious intervention or anything.
I'm basically acknowledging the realization of typo that could be causing even more confusion than the plot.

In the 2nd paragraph of my last post I said:
The wind itself also found joy in feeling a bind form again with an immortal of the pertinent spark.
I meant to say:
The wind itself also found joy in feeling a bond form again with a mortal of the pertinent spark.
This was intended to refer to the wind finding an unaffected air defier spark in Davic, which calms it somewhat.
I don't think this should require any editing on Tio or Nir'wei's parts.
It doesn't change anything they did or observed to any significant degree.
I mostly just want to be sure I didn't give anyone the impression that there was an Immortal hanging around.
Going back and editing isn't enough to be sure the correction would be noticed now.

Robin stumbled, his heads pressed against his chest; he felt the weight of her words, each syllable a hammer against his heart. His legs, still carried by his rage and fear, tripped into each other and he collapsed onto the earth. The grass was soft against his skin. His hand pulled at the grass. He heard the dirt break and stretch. It didn't mean anything to him.

He remembered Karem and her words. Loneliness crippled. It would kill him.

He wondered how the rest of the world lived, without the four.

Robin held his eyes closed, feeling the wind as it panicked. It circled and pounded against him. "Recognize me, please," he begged, on his knees, his arms open to the wind and sky. Nothing answered him.

Robin didn't pay attention to the growing marks along his body. He did hear Nir'wei's words. "Deal. I'll get you your orb," he promised, not caring about the game or the puzzle or Thetros. "And you will give me my friends back," he said, swearing the man who stole his pack would be buried before the day was over.

Handor, still possessed of Finn's body, was finding the whole puzzle richly entertaining. He, of course, was not truly involved, so he could view it objectively. It seemed like everyone was handling things differently, and none of them particularly well. He had long since become a full-time resident of the Miasma. He knew that if you did not figure out how to leave before the phenomenon reset in a new location, you'd be stuck here indefinitely.

However, those permanently inside, like himself, were never aware of the passing of time and locations until they stumbled across some scenery where they did not expect it. That always suggested a new landscape orientation for some newly arrived victim. Judging by how overly reactive these folks were behaving, they must represent a fairly recent manifestation of the zone. It may even be the first day.

Or it may be the orbs themselves, he considered. Something that already had a connection to the outside could have been introduced specifically to give these chumps some easy way out. It was likely that the moment they laid hands on the orb attuned to them, they'd be swept right out into the normal plane. But he had to laugh at the confused priorities that were preventing these people from arriving at a solution. Those that were the closest to latching on to their way out had lost something so personally fundamental that they would not want to leave until it was restored.

His laughter did not win him any favorable looks. But he just shrugged. The fellow that was being coerced by the glamor girl had plainly been stripped of something of great importance to him. His interaction with the Sev'ryn, as well as the one enrapt with those remarkable marbles, made it likely to have been some control over the wind. The whole conundrum had them all throwing demands, accusations and threats at each other. Shaking his head as he picked up the orb the marble man had dropped in his trance, Handor considered that he might be better off helping these fools be gone all the sooner.

Only the two furthest away seemed to be enjoying a more 'community', and less 'competitor', approach; calming and soothing each other's frazzled nerves. The feathers on the owl made it difficult to see the color of the sting, but Handor suspected a bite of bright yellow color; one indicative of a full identity swap. The behavior of the winged humanoid supported this notion. The male with her had put an orb in his pocket. Handor was not sure which one it was, but he himself had the one with the image of wings in it; as well as the one with a volcano, and now, the tiara.

Not being involved in their little predicament, it seemed he was able to grab hold of any orb he felt inclined to retrieve. But he had one new thing he wanted to confirm. He'd seen plenty of green bites in his time. They were only the result of switched skills; the kind deliberately developed and perfected. Red was also prevalent, being the mark of lost or newly implanted memories. Blue was for more instinctively learned skills, like flying for that avriel girl, or a language one has come to learn merely through exposure.

Purple was magic, that much was additional support for his theory that the one arguing with the Sev'ryn had lost his wind magic. Judging by the big purple bite marks on them both, the one had lost it, but knew how it was used, and the other had gained it, but didn't even realize it. He chuckled to himself at that snafu. There were also shades of colors, where the nature of what had been stripped or implanted fit into more than one color scheme.

But there was black and white as well. He knew from past events that white was the loss and transferal of a divine blessing. So did that make black the transferal of a divine curse? The man sitting with the bird girl had such a mark on him, as did the glamor girl, still bitching at the two men. He rolled his eyes, pausing in their rotation to see that the entranced marble man had suffered a number of bites on his hands. It was likely this had happened when the wind had interfered with the bugs' rapture over those same marbles.

Finn/Handor walked past the bickering group, shaking his head, and took a seat beside the golden-haired fellow that had first come bursting out of the structure yelling 'ORB!'. It took little time to figure out that the owl and the bird-girl had switched minds, and the man had lost his identity. It was a little odd that no one else had been stuck with it. These two he actually felt an urge to help.

"I don't know if you knew this young fellow, whose body I currently occupy, but I want you to know...I can..." he slowed as he rifled through one of his pockets, "...switch him back whenever I decide the time is right." he pulled his hand out, enclosing a glowing yellow insect. "This one has the kid's "self" absorbed within it, I just need to let it sting me and the kid will be back. But I need his voice for now." Handor shrugged, "He was running away when we got switched anyway. Let him wait!"

He leaned in close so they both could hear. "As far as being completely fucked..." he chuckled, "...you actually are in real luck. Those yellow bites show me your identities have been switched." He spoke now directly to Tio, "You don't seem to have had yours implanted in anyone else yet. The good luck is that the bugs are mesmerized by those marbles. You just need to go over there and get the other glowing yellow bug to sting you. There really should only be one other one. It's glowing because it's currently holding an identity. It really HAS to be yours. Just grab hold of it. It'll either sting you just for that, or you can just sort of jab its stinger into your arm."

He leaned back with a smile, "Obviously, once you feel your own self restored, you can stop." He turned to the owl now, assuming a humanoid personality trapped within, "This will work for you too girlie, if you're in there. You'll need two of these same yellow bugs. BUT...let the fellow here do the handling, 'cause when you get some effect, you'll get dizzy and lose your hold on them. Now when they start to glow, that will mean they've absorbed the personalities of who they've stung. So then you just sting them into the other one to complete the switch back."

Handor knew that if the man's black bite represented a curse that had been switched out, he would not know it until his original personality had been restored. He thought about asking the glamor girl, since she had the black mark too, but he honestly didn't feel like discussing something that might help her. Instead he would simply watch as the man, the owl, and the bird-girl got themselves put back in their proper bodies, and see if any of the others noticed.

Okay, so this one time it really ought to be Tio and Navyri that go first. It isn't really essential, but it might make things go smoother for subsequent posts. If they don't post right away, go ahead and post in their place, but you'll need to include your PC observing them doing their thing with the bugs. No problem for lack of a Finn post this time, since It allowed me to use him in mine, and we're just about done anyway.

It could not be said that the memoryless man trusted the creepy kid one bit, but since he had absolutely no idea who he was or what was going on he didn't really have many options other than to take him at his word. With a sinister smile and words that sounded out of place coming from a teenager's body, the kid explained that the yellow coloured bugs were able to rob people of their personality with their bites and transfer them into another host. All three of them had been affected by these bugs in some way; the kid's real personality was trapped inside a bug right now whilst this foreign personality currently inhabiting it came from somewhere else, the bird-girl was acting like a bird because she and her pet owl had had their personalities swapped, and his own memory loss was due to his personality residing in one of the bugs flying around right now.

"So just to be clear, I need to get two of the non-glowing yellow bugs to sting the owl and bird lady until they both glow, then swap the bugs over and have them sting them again." He echoed, his expression betraying how little faith he had in this plan working. "Then I sting myself with the one that's currently glowing, and my own personality and memories will return to me?"

Taking care to avoid looking at the marbles, the man slowly approached the hypnotized bugs and plucked two of the yellow coloured ones that weren't glowing. He made sure to grab both of them by the back between his index fingers and thumbs so that they couldn't fly off or hit him with their stingers, then headed back over to the bird person and her owl.

"Hold still. I get the feeling this might hurt a bit."

Unceremoniously he stabbed the bugs, stingers first, into the woman's arm and the owl's wing. He waited for both of the bugs to start glowing, and then swapped them around and stabbed them with the stingers again until the glowing stopped. If the creepy kid hadn't been lying that should have put their mind back into their rightful bodies, but he didn't stick around to find out. His own personality, and with them his memories, were waiting for him!

Heading over to the marbles once again, the memoryless man held the yellow bugs he used towards the light, again taking care not to look directly at it himself, and waited until they stopped thrashing around angrily to signal that they were once again entranced. Out of the corner of his eye he then located the glowing bug that was supposed to hold his personality, and again pinched it between his finger and thumb.

"Well... here goes nothing." He muttered to himself, and stabbed the stinger into his arm.

A nauseous feeling welled up within him again, and the man collapsed to his knees as a lifetime of memories flooded into his head.

A few seconds later his eyes shot open, and with a start Tio leaped to his feet!

"AHA! YEAH BABY, I'M BACK!" He yelled enthusiastically as all the thoughts, memories and weird little personality quirks that comprised of who he was reasserted themselves. He was back again! He could remember everything; who he was, why he was here, and what had happened to him!

With his personality returned, Tio quickly ran through his memory of the events that'd transpired whilst his real self was trapped inside the bug. "Orb!" he shouted aloud in surprise as he realised that without his memory he'd been able to catch 'his' orb, and his hands flew to the jacket pocket where said object was trapped within the bag he kept his siren marbles in. Speaking of which...

"Marbles?!" He yelled, this time with a mixture of shock and surprise. His memoryless self had just dumped one of his favorite objects on the ground as if they were pieces of trash! Didn't he have any idea how much effort he'd put into making those?! Well no actually, come to think of it he really wouldn't, what with his lack of memory and all. Still it all seemed to have turned out for the best; if he hadn't dumped the siren marbles they would have had a hard time catching the bugs, and without those nobody stood a chance of fixing their respective problems.

Which left one last decision to make; what to do next. He had his orb trapped in his jacket pocket, and assumed that all he had to do was grab hold of it to complete the game. He could just snatch his marbles back up and leave the others high and dry to sort out their own problems, but even if they were opponents it felt kind of cruel to just leave them like this. Damn it, he must be going soft or something!

"Hey Peaches, wakey wakey!" He shouted as he gave Davic a hard slap around the back of the head, knowing a strong stimuli like that would be enough to break him out of the hypnotic trance. "Don't look directly into the light, it's hypnotic. I'm getting out of here, but you can feel free to keep the marbles if you like as long as right now you use them to keep all those bugs on them hypnotised. These guys here are going to need them."

And with that he reached into the bag in his jacket pocket and took a hold of his orb.

Sorry if my post seems a little long, since we seem to be wrapping up I didn't want to leave anything unsaid.

Davic the marbles are yours, or anyone else's who wants them if you don't. Go nuts.
Zana I don't know of Maltruism or Squirrel have told you already but they have a plan in mind for how I can get my curse back from you.

"What if I fall?"

Oh but darling
What if you fly?
121st of Vhalar, 717
  • The man who Navyri now perched upon lifted his orb and held it up for her to inspect, his tone insulting. She turned her head to glare at him, feeling the strange sensation of having a neck with full rotation. She looked at him with owl eyes, giving an annoyed sound before turning to look back at the orb the man held up. Its dark surface swirled and revealed gold coins and she crept down his arm, long talons lightly scraping the smooth surface. Debating whether or not to try and take it, a new figure headed their way - or at least one Navyri had yet to fully converse with.

He breezed past the others, and his direct approach was enough to make the trapped woman desert the unneeded orb and fly to her original body, not sure if she should be on guard. He spoke smoothly, giving a sort of introduction; whoever he was was not the original owner of the body. His mind had been switched, something to do with the insects that had since become mesmerized by marbles.

He spoke to the blonde, and then addressed her, a bit of hope rising in her chest as she realized someone understood her plight. Who was this young man? Navyri was perhaps not as skeptical as Tio, having met someone from the Miasma before. She was cautious, but willing and her feathers fluffed at the mention of a solution to her current dilemma. She hopped upon the shoulder of her old body, eager and gave a screech at the man. Would he follow it? They had already been stung; Navyri was willing to gamble the odds.

Waiting a little impatiently, she tried to keep an eye on both the blonde and the younger man who had aided them. It seemed strange, and she briefly wondered why; looking to the other group that bickered like children. If she had lips, perhaps she would have smiled, and instead paced by side shuffling and bobbing her avian head.

The blonde without an identity listened and went to retrieve the bugs, his success hidden until he came meandering back with insects in tow. Seeing him approach with the things that seemingly caused this whole stressful ordeal, Curio began to back up, stumbling over the use of human legs and it took soothing reassurance from Navyri to have her hold still.

Just like that, the stingers were dug into her skin and a wave of nausea washed over her. He stung them again, a gasp exploding from the woman’s chest as she was shoved back into her own form.

Doubling over, Curio beat his wings to keep balance and Navyri took him in her arms, breathing heavy, “I hate this place,” she growled, feeling a bit weak after the transition. Her original body was so much heavier, and her pearlescent wings felt more like a weight than anything. She sucked in the misty air and looked up, struggling to make her way to the one who had offered the information.

“You,” she said, straightening up and stroking the feathers of her owl as Tio left to return his own mind, “Thank you…” Navyri wasn’t sure what to say, nor how long Handor would inherit this body, knowing he held one of those terrible bugs. “I am Navyri.” she held out a hand, quite formal, but was more concerned with her next inquiry, “This is the Miasma?” she frowned, looking into the mist, wondering if Garizma was still trapped. Or… if Belaera still lurked in the red palace.

“I recognize this place. I’ve been here before…” she turned, just as Tio was stinging himself. He shouted, and Navyri frowned, not sure if she liked that, “The orbs,” she noticed their absence, “Have you seen mine? I think it has wings upon it.”

"At last. It has been too long since I have walked the face of this world. Too long have I been locked there, awaiting my champion to release me. My champion... This is you, daughter of Audrae. You have, whether knowingly or not, released me from my self imprisonment, and are here to fulfill the destiny I have seen written in the tapestry of nature. You, daughter of Audrae's daughter, will be my foothold in this world." - Belaera to The Nightingale, after the 600 arc imprisonment
