She was nervous.
Terrified, excited, unsure, delighted, exuberant and a million other emotions which she could not even list, let alone describe. For Faith, since that moment sitting on the porch between their house and the house belonging to Cyrus and Katie, that moment where she had realised that there was not a situation with the tea going off, or too many paint fumes. In the moment that she had come to understand that the situation was, in fact, morning sickness, Faith had felt a hundred different emotions.
And yet, somehow, the suns had risen on the first, the twin suns which heralded the beginning of Saun. Those suns had moved and they had eaten and slept, worked and studied just like everything was normal and usual. How could that be, she had wondered, how could the world continue when every thought and action was punctuated with the thought that she was pregnant.
So few people knew and yet it filled their world. It was strange, Faith considered. She often felt separate from others, not so much distant as simply lacking a number of the common grounds which allowed people to have the sort of conversations which came easily to them ~ or seemed to. Childhoods, families, people who loved them. As time had passed and she had developed some of those things, interacting with others had become easier but still Faith was fundamentally always very aware of how different she was and why.
Now, ironically, she saw just how much she had started to feel settled. This was an enormous secret for them to hold the two of them. It was overwhelming and exciting and Faith wanted to scream it from the rooftops yet it was just too precious to tell anyone. They had agreed that, throughout Saun they would keep the pregnancy quiet, just theirs. It shouldn't, she knew, but that knowledge that they shared delighted her and she hoarded the feelings, the emotions and the anticipation like a miser.
Yet, the situation brought with it some unique challenges, not least work. Cally's was a high-class establishment and Faith knew that, far too soon, she would have to finish working at least for a while. They hadn't yet discussed what they were going to do once the baby was here, but they had agreed that they were going to take it step by step and so, she came in to work today with a very specific agenda.
