Rharne Calendar: Hot Cycle 724

Hot Cycle 724
(Ymiden & Saun)

Weather in Ymiden 724
Mostly sunny and unseasonably cool, but not to the point of frost. The Stormwastes continue to transform over the cycles, and parts of the northwestern Stormwastes in particular are seeing more and more green and rich soil. Toward the end of the season, rainy days begin to arrive, and with the advent of Saun, torrential downpours.

Image Rharne Fighting Circuit All Season As a city of brawlers, the fighting spirit of everyday fighters is an identifying mark of its culture. Taverns give out tokens and sponsorships to fighters in order to raise their own profile, as an establishment that caters to only the best, and most renown fighters.Open

Image Drink Up! All Season Alcohol and brewing are undoubtedly another prominent feature of Rharnean life, along with the constant noise and loud partying that often accompanies the sharing of libations. As such, the people of Rharne are always on the lookout for the next great home brewed beer, ale, wine, spirit or liquor that the next brewmaster may concoct, as the basis for starting a tavern or just sharing among their social circle. Those who engage in the production of and sharing of new brews will surely earn the eternal praise of the Rharnean people. (Mod-Input)Open

Image A Shelter from Pigs on the Wing All Season Starting on the 27th of Ymiden, the Fabled Pigasus has been spotted! Several of them.... no dozens.... no... Hundreds of them! The time prophesized in myth and legend has arrived! The Pigasus has come to reclaim its ancestral home in the muddy fields just north of the city, near enough to the Dust Quarter that droppings from pigs on the wing must be looked out for. Several people are injured, and people are worried that the pig droppings will spread disease. However it also presents a opportunity, as all across Rharne the Sounder of Pigasus' flies all over Rharnean territory, fertilizing the earth. A little known fact about the long-lost Pigasus, once driven to extinction but now inexplicably returned, is that its flesh is one of the most divine tasting of all pigs. Their flesh is a cook's dream, as it takes all spices equally well, and can be cooked in a way to taste like anyone's favorite flavor or dish. As their reappearance to Rharne is considered to be a consequence of Fractive phenomenon, they likely will have windstars attached to their bodies, should any well hunters or ensorcellers wish to indulge their thirst for arcane power.Open

Image Ymiden's Rise 1st Ymiden A parade to celebrate the season change is held on the 1st of Ymiden. It is led by members of the three core factions in Rharne and winds up the mountain from the Docks in the Dust Quarter all the way to the Sky Quarter, ending at the Lightning Cathedral. There is plenty of music, dancing, and laughter along the way, and citizens either join the parade themselves or throw flowers and rice at the marchers. Per tradition, the women wear bright beads and flower crowns, while the men wear colourful shirts and, often, beads of their own.Open

Image Triple Murder Beneath the Lightning Dome 2nd Ymiden On the morning of the second of Ymiden, the bodies of Markus Gaul, Toby Hynes, and a little known custodian are found dead in the bloodworks of the Lightning Dome. They were found garroted, strangled in the halls of the Bloodworks. Crow feathers were found not far from their bodies.Open
.
Image Pilgrim's Preakness 13th Ymiden A race is held, organized by both the Roamers and the Tappers of the Thunder Priesthood. The style of race is a relay, held from the bottom of Pilgrim's Ascent in the Earth Quarter, all the way up to the Sky Quarter. Anyone owning an agile and well--trained mount that is mainly ground based is encouraged to attend. Also those who can handle their liquor, as the race will involve stops at booths where various taverns provide complimentary samples of any and all brews they wish to advertise.Open

Image Echoes 21st Ymiden During the 21st of Ymiden and through the rest of the season, people who find themselves caught in a shadowed area, or in the darkness, will find any sounds or spoken words they issue seem to reflect and bounce off the very walls. The shadowy spaces are very echoey! Children in Rharne take it upon themselves to invent games, to enrich their hiders and seekers or other children games. Still others use the echo phenomenon to enhance their skullduggery. The phenomenon culminates on the 30th, when the echoes morph entirely into voices that speak to people in the dark, without even speaking back! They warn of troubles on the way, from the East.. After the 51st, the phenomenon abruptly ceases.Open

Image Riverstorms Along the Estuary 37th Ymiden All along the Zynyx Estuary, a few miles from the very mouth of the river, a series of great storms bedevil the waters on the waterway up to the 40th of Ymiden. It's speculated that the Induk Zynyx is feuding with Clemengoth, over a lost wager. What the wager might be is subject to rumour and conjecture. Some surmise one favored a particular fighter in the All-Taverns Tournament. Others presume it to be some territorial issue that boiled over at the Estuary near Volta. Either way, there are some spectacular lightning and wind storms sweeping across the Estuary, a prime opportunity for artists or just scientists interested in weather patterns to observe.Open

Image Summer Fashion and Beauty Pageant 69th Ymiden On this trial, the School formerly known as Miss Austere's School of Movement & Music:, now dedicated to the Immortal Daia, has sent invitations to all citizens to attend a beauty contest and fashion pageant. The pageant is inclusive of all genders and races, and will include but is not limited to a bathing suit contest, and talent portion. There will be prizes on offer for those who place second and first runner up, as well as a grand prize for the overall winner. It's rumored that Edasha and Daia themselves might be attending, or at the very least observing the proceedings.Moderated

Image Buskerfest 79th Ymiden Buskerfest is held during four consecutive trials in Ymiden. It is an event filled with performance, spectacle, stories, and comedy. During the four days and four nights, the streets in the Earth Quarter and Glass Quarter are lined with performers, including everything from musicians and singers to fire jugglers and acrobats to amateur joke tellers and magicians. Temporary booths selling a wide variety of snacks and alcohol pop up throughout the city, and traffic is slow to non-existent as spectators stop in the middle of the street to dance, laugh, or throw nel into hats.Open
.
Image Dog Day of Summer 83rd Ymiden On the last day of Buskerfest, a sudden influx of stray dogs congregate around the squares where Rharneans celebrate the buskers and other noise-making performers putting on a show for the occasion. The sounds of their singing, their busking, their speeches and so on are suddenly interrupted by a chorus of incredibly loud barking, howling, and all manner of canine chaos. Every dog in Rharne joins in on the canine chorus, without exception. The dogs do not budge from their corners, but will lash out at anyone who tries to remove them.Open

Saun Weather
Lots and lots of fog. Sometimes rain. For the first time in decades, the suns aren't visible the entire season.

Image Debate Me Sis 6th Saun A newly minted tradition sponsored by the Thunder Priesthood, and moderated by the same, the first annual Starling Debate Competition is commencing on this day of Saun. People may gather for a chance to debate some of the most erudite minds from across Rharne. Each round of Debate will be moderated and in the end judged by popular consensus. Any topic or position is respected and allowed during the debate. Nothing is off limits, including discussion of otherwise illegal activities, so long as an admission of guilt for that illegal activity isn't made.Open

Image The Sea Hag's Due 10th Saun In defiance of Chrien's attempt to destroy their ally Scalvoris, many Rharnean nationals take to loading decommissioned cargo ships with all manner of useless and unwanted things. These are sent down and paraded through the river Zynyx, until they reach the ocean beyond the river's estuary. There, they plan to scuttle the trash collected in those old barges and cargo ships, in a sign of hatred for Chrien. In spite of this, many Mer gather around the site of the dumping, and pick through the leavings to find things that they can use or value, unbeknownst to the Rharneans.Open

Image Many a Fool Knows, a Dog Needs a Home 13th Saun On Ilaren's birthday, a procession of unaccompanied dogs is found to be parading up and down Pilgrim's Ascent. This strange occasion is noted by many moving between the Quarters. Soon enough, Lightning Knights and kennel masters the city over are dispatched to ascertain the nature of the disturbance, or at least identify the pooches. It's found, by some who attended the Buskerfest during Ymiden, that many of them are led by the dogs that were disrupting the last day of Buskerfest. Should anyone adopt one of these affected dogs, it's soon found that each one has a special, but mostly harmless ability, associated with anyone of Ilaren's Domains. Image Ilaren's Birthtrial 13th Saun On this trial, Ilaren celebrates her birthtrial. General frivolity and engaging in the activities most favored by Ilaren, brawling, drinking, and making noise. But increasingly it's used as a day to do a good deed for a dog, whether to adopt one or to find a home for a stray. This is because it's become well known that Ilaren loves dogs.Open

Image The Dubois Patriarch Perishes 23rd Saun The long-ailing Dubois Patriarch, father of Nathaniel Dubois the current Voice on the Council, has died peacefully in his sleep. Deemed to have died of natural causes, brought about by old age, Dubois leaves his fortune and properties in the hands of the up-and-coming but somewhat embattled Nathaniel Dubois, whose political career has ever stood in the shadow of his father's sprawling business interests. The Dubois Patriarch was known to have cornered a large part of the agricultural businesses across the Rharnean Countryside. His manorial plantation in the southern edges of the Ywyngyll Forest will go to Nathaniel, as will all his business interests. His laden casket and boat is sent out to Lake Lovalus, set on fire and seen off by many of his admirers. His son was notably scarce at the funeral proceedings, only appearing for a moment before storming off. Open

Image A Foggy Farewell 33rd Saun After laying his father, the Dubois Patriarch to rest from the shores of Lake Lovalus, Nathaniel Dubois, ten trials later will be holding a party to celebrate his father's life and accomplishments. The Dubois Patriarch was well known for having cornered a large portion of the agricultural market in Rharne. Much of the wheat, barley, hops, and other essential crops to the propagation of the brewing business flowed through his enterprises. As such, many tavern owners and people of importance in Rharnean culture will be attending the party. Moderated
