[The Cut] Two Claw Their Way

Continued from here...

Delenda hesitated. Vethril listened to her for once. While she could smell the bodies just about, he could feel them, buried beneath a heap of rocks. The corpses were crawling already with rot. Which meant they'd time to exit judgment. He considered for only a moment slipping from his host, and delving into the Beneath to see if he could find them. But that would've taken too much time. Time to find a Vergeance and energy to push through it. No, if there were any ghosts, he would wait for them where he was on stronger ground.

He didn't think he could take the ghost metal ring with him, into the Beneath anyway, and he had come to rely upon its potency. Delenda fidgeted with the ring, twirling it in her finger. Vethril pinched the finger in frustration. He didn't need her to loosen the ring and drop it now. That would obviously not be to his good, or even to Delenda.

She took a breath, and Vethril allowed her the reins for a moment, fading into the back of her mind. He was more or less symbiotic at this point, having twisted her arm long enough to establish his right to cohabitate with her. "Child." Vethril spoke into her mind. "Take a breath, and turn the corner. Come whatever, from these shades I will protect you."

Delenda nodded, and turned around the corner, to peer at what lay beyond. There, at the end of a short terminus was a heap of fallen rocks.
A dead end.
She frowned, and began pawing at the rocks, tossing them aside one after another. Vethril used his own eyes to search along with her, although she was sharper of eye than he had probably ever been.

They clawed their way through several layers before a hand appeared, and through it, a sliver of ectoplasmic mist arose.
